Chapter 21: Hallucination.
Kael’s eyes widened slightly because of the thing which was in front of him. The priest’s eyes were completely blank, like those of an endless void; his hands remained on a man and a woman who were laid onto the slab.
Candles were kept across them, circling them entirely. The priest was muttering something which was almost a whisper.
Kael’s gaze remained stuck on the priest for a while, then shifted towards the people on the slab.
A huge wave of dark mana engulfed them, yet within it lingered faint trails of holy mana.
Part of the energy flowed directly toward their hearts, causing their mana circles to manifest over their chests, right above where their hearts were located.
Kael’s gaze fixated on the man. He had blond hair and wore a finely tailored suit befitting a noble. His attention then shifted to the woman, who was dressed in an elegant gown worthy of a noble lady. The attire of both individuals clearly reflected their noble status.
"The count and the countess," Kael muttered as he took a look at the priest and continued. "Both of these are getting their mana sucked dry by this man."
A sigh escaped through his mouth as his gaze travelled across the room, and still, he wasn’t able to locate where Sylas was.
There wasn’t any shift in his expression, but his gaze moved towards the priest’s robe. He noticed a large bulge beneath the robe, caused by one of the priest’s arms hidden inside it, seemingly supporting or carrying something.
Without uttering any other word, his hand reached towards the high priest. But instantly it got staggered away, and the moment it did, a tremendous surge of mana burst toward Kael; it was a fusion of pure and dark mana.
Kael’s eyes frowned because he knew that two opposing forces should never have been able to coexist. Such a phenomenon was something a human could never perform, making the sight before him all the more unsettling.
Out of nowhere, a smirk tugged on his lips as he muttered under his breath. He directed his hand forward as a trail of his mana shot out through the tip of his finger.
The mana surged toward the priest, while Kael’s own mana wrapped around the energy flowing out from him. The two forces collided head-on, and a massive flash erupted throughout the room, bright enough to blind anyone caught in its glare.
But nothing of that sort happened to Kael; his gaze remained fixated on the priest as the effects of the flash slowly wore off.
Kael crossed his arms as he looked right at the priest’s face. He noticed that the priest’s eyes had finally come back to normal.
His gaze fell on Kael, who was standing beside him. A sense of worry hit him instantly, and sweat started to cover his entire face.
He staggered backwards, fell onto his back and muttered. "W-who... who are you?!"
"How the hell did you get in here?!"
Kael simply looked down at him for a while, and silence fell across the room. Finally, Kael broke the silence. "I’m just a dad."
When those words fell inside the priest’s ears, his body started to tremble as a thought lingered inside his mind. "H-how did a mere father dare do all this?!"
Then, the priest’s gaze shifted toward his hands, toward something he was holding within his arms.
Kael instantly followed his line of sight. He leaned down, grabbed the priest’s robe, and lifted it slightly. The moment he did, his eyes widened as he noticed that Sylas was cradled in the priest’s arms.
Kael’s usual demeanour didn’t change, but a strange aura began to emanate from him. His mana surged through his body, faint yet potent enough to make the priest shiver in fear.
The priest’s entire body froze; he tried to move to get away from there, but he didn’t even budge an inch.
The lights around him started to shiver tremendously, the walls started to creak, and a huge amount of mana surrounded the entire room.
The atmosphere began to change. The light within the room gradually shifted from its normal hue to a deep crimson. The priest remained frozen in place, desperately trying to force his body to move.
His eyes fell upon Kael, who was slowly walking toward him. As Kael looked down at him, the priest felt as though a predator was stalking its prey, and he was the one being hunted.
"W-what’s going on?" his voice crackled as he continued. "Do you even know who I am?"
And then instantly, the surroundings came back to normal. The priest’s eyes travelled across the room, noticing all the details which he had just witnessed.
But there weren’t any signs that the room had changed for even the slightest second. freeweɓnovel.cѳm
Kael took a few steps forward as he leaned towards the priest. "By that expression, I can assume you just experienced a hallucination."
Kael’s voice remained calm and indifferent.
"I don’t care what you saw. The only thing that matters is that you’ll be dying here today." Kael said, as his gaze shifted towards Sylas, who was in the priest’s arms, unconscious.
