Chapter 35: Chapter 30: Great Detective Isabel

The population growth in the simulator increased Luh Yao’s perception. Because of this, he could now pick up on details he would have completely missed before, and most of these unusual details centered on Yuyao.

Yuyao had never spoken to Luh Yao. Zhou Qiang explained this as her being introverted.

She always cooked in the middle of the night and would hum strange little tunes in the kitchen.

Yuyao always carried the faint metallic scent of blood. Most of the time it was very faint, which suggested she had deliberately tried to clean away any traces. But the smell of blood was strongest in her mouth, and also the hardest to get rid of.

The smell of blood wasn’t just on her; it was also in the kitchen sink, the bathroom, and even the trash bags in the living room. All of these were connected to Yuyao’s comings and goings.

Zhou Qiang, on the other hand, hadn’t noticed anything unusual.

Luh Yao felt that there was an indescribable, strange aura about Yuyao. But he couldn’t quite put his finger on what it was.

Moreover, he felt it would be dangerous to investigate further on his own.

So, Luh Yao decided to let a professional handle it.

There was no evidence or proof of a crime, so it wasn’t a good idea to trouble the police.

With a simple, one-click summoning ritual on his computer, Isabel once again knelt on his computer desk.

"Lord God, Isabel has come in accordance with your will."

Unlike her previous panicked and nervous appearance, this time the young Apostle was much calmer.

"There’s a suspicious person. She’s out with a friend of mine watching a movie right now. We have about two and a half hours, so I summoned you to..."

Luh Yao briefly explained the situation.

"That’s the situation. Find out her background."

"Yes, Lord."

After saying that, Isabel began to change clothes as Luh Yao had requested.

Luh Yao considerately stepped out of the room and said through the door, "My perception has improved noticeably recently. Does the feedback from population growth really come this fast?"

Isabel’s voice came from inside. "Lord. For a God residing in a High Realm Dimension, the population of a Low Realm Dimension is like a second body, and Faith is the external projection of Divine Power."

Luh Yao asked her, "Then what happens if the population drops to zero?"

"Lord, even if a God’s Divine Hall is completely destroyed, it is very difficult to completely eradicate their Believers. This is because once Faith begins to spread, it travels to all corners of the world, reaching not only humans but also other intelligent life forms."

"The Faith itself doesn’t completely disappear. It just becomes very weak and difficult to gather in large quantities again, like seeds scattered to the winds."

"As long as the God uses the Power of Faith to have the Believers rebuild the Divine Hall, they can make a comeback."

Luh Yao understood.

It meant starting over from scratch.

That’s what happened to Lisa.

"It’s said that in the Divine Wars that take place beyond the Divine Hall of the Gods, some Gods are completely erased during the Divine War, losing their Faith and all their Believers."

Isabel continued, "In a Divine War, the Faith of some Gods suffers a devastating blow. These Gods who are completely driven out are known as the Old Gods."

Luh Yao silently made a mental note.

That was a matter for after the Divine Hall of the Gods, once he was no longer an Apprentice Deity.

For now, he was still a new player under protection.

Normally, the safe zone was still relatively safe.

The closest case was Lisa, who had been arrested. After her Wonder was destroyed, she fell back into the safe zone and was forced to start over from the Barbarian Tribe.

Luh Yao could now understand Lisa’s desperation.

Population growth brought an incredible physiological enhancement, while the loss of a large population and Faith could instantly make a Divine Player fall from a mountain peak back into a deep valley.

What people can’t bear most is loss.

Isabel changed into a gray hoodie, put on a pair of sunglasses, and dressed like a normal girl.

The investigation began.

She clasped her hands, bowed her head with her eyes closed, and recited a prayer in a low voice.

Luh Yao couldn’t understand the words, but he could feel it. Something was emanating from Isabel, interacting and reacting with the world around them, like a stone dropped into a still pond.

Gradually, a white halo appeared around Isabel. No, halo wasn’t quite right. It was more like a layer of flowing, milky-white mist.

This was her ability, Mourning Prayer.

Unlike the simplified white light in the Pixel World, in the real world, everything was clearly visible. Especially with Luh Yao’s enhanced perception, he could see every subtle process and change with perfect clarity.

The white mist around Isabel seeped into the walls and floor.

Gradually, wisps of black smoke appeared in the room. The smoke was so fine that if one didn’t look closely, they might mistake it for thin black threads floating and swaying upwards.

The black threads intertwined, coalescing into a constantly shifting black fog.

Isabel said something to the black fog, but she made no sound. Luh Yao could only see her lips moving.

Before long, the black mass vanished without a trace.

Isabel turned to Luh Yao and explained, "Lord, the Dead here say that the woman eats raw flesh and drinks blood."

"Every night, while she cooks in here, she also eats raw flesh and sucks the blood from it."

"She eats raw fish most often."

Luh Yao scratched his head.

’Am I overthinking this?’

He had heard that some local customs included eating raw meat, which was even considered a delicacy by the locals.

Maybe Yuyao came from one of those places. She was probably hiding to eat the raw meat because she was afraid he and Zhou Qiang would discover her primitive eating habits.

"Lord, I sense the aura of a Demon Believer."

Isabel looked out the window at the street below, her gaze sharpening.

Luh Yao followed her gaze.

On the street, Zhou Qiang and Yuyao were walking back, holding hands. Isabel’s gaze was fixed on Yuyao.

"Should I execute the target?"

"Wait a minute... Yuyao is a Demon Believer?"

"Yes, Lord. As an Apostle, I cannot identify a God’s true form, but I can see their Faith Flame. She doesn’t have an Artifact that can Disguise or conceal it, so the flame inside her is very obvious."

Luh Yao’s worst fear had come to pass.

He said immediately, "Subdue her. Find out her purpose and identity."

"Yes."

Isabel plucked out her left eye, handed it to Luh Yao, then opened the door and went downstairs.

Luh Yao locked the bedroom door from the inside and began to watch remotely through the eyeball.

「On the street.」

Isabel approached Zhou Qiang and Yuyao. The moment Yuyao saw her, her expression changed. Seemingly recognizing Isabel’s identity, her lips tightened, and her fingers, which were holding Zhou Qiang’s hand, clenched subconsciously.

"Long time no see. Let’s talk."

Isabel stopped beside Yuyao.

"Huh?" Zhou Qiang said, looking at Yuyao. "You two know each other?"

Yuyao forced a smile. "She’s a distant cousin of mine."

"You go on ahead. I’m going to chat with my cousin."

Zhou Qiang nodded and headed back.

"Follow me."

Isabel led the way, and Yuyao followed in silence.

The two of them walked into a corner of a nearby parking alley. Even during the day, the place was deserted. There were no security cameras, and the dirty cars provided natural cover.

Isabel walked up to a junked car in the furthest corner, grabbed the handle of the rear door, and with a creak, yanked it open.

"Get in."

They got into the car, one after the other.

Silence.

"Can you give me three days?" Yuyao pleaded. "Let me live for just three more days, please?"
