Chapter 71: 71:Leaving.
The tunnel was silent as Silver and Ravenna gathered their things. The corpse of the Fire Wolf had already completely disappeared and only scattered scorch marks remained, evidence that the battle had happened.
For several moments neither spoke. The emotional aftermath of the integration still lingered quietly between them almost uncomfortably.
Silver checked the map. The nearest route back toward Sanctuary Delta-3 would take several hours. Long enough that they needed to leave immediately if they wanted to return before the gates closed for the night.
Outside, the sky had already begun changing. The bright afternoon sun was fading; orange and gold colors stretched across the horizon.
Night in the outer zones wasn’t something most contractors wanted to experience voluntarily, especially rookies.
Silver stood first then offered Ravenna a hand.
"Can you walk?"
She looked offended.
"Of course," she replied defensively.
She accepted the hand anyway. A moment later she immediately winced. fгee𝑤ebɳoveɭ.cøm
Silver raised an eyebrow but Ravenna pretended nothing had happened even with his expression. Silver decided not to comment since some battles weren’t worth fighting. He got out a small metallic-like capsule and fed it to her, which she took without asking what it was.
"Let’s get to the car," he quietly said," I have some high-grade capsules there. The military-issued pills will not be able to fully help us but they should be able to help us to the car."
She nodded and followed after him. Inwardly, Silver called onto the system.
The familiar blue interface appeared and the Shop list appeared. Silver immediately selected healing. The list expanded.
Minor Recovery Pill: 5 AP
Basic Antidote: 8 AP
Recovery Salve: 10 AP
Minor Soul Recovery Pill: 15 AP
Basic Body Restoration Pill: 20 AP
He selected the basic body restoration pill since it only took two hours for the body to heal. The speed could at least be explained as a high-grade capsule.
[40 Affection points deducted.]
Remaining: 723.
Silver felt the pills in his hand. He placed them in the small pouch on his waist. The walk back to the vehicle was considerably slower.
Silver’s body felt like it had been beaten with construction equipment. Ravenna wasn’t much better. Fortunately, the military-issued healing pills had done most of the heavy lifting, without them neither would have been walking.
By the time they reached the vehicle, the sky had become noticeably darker. Silver slid into the driver’s seat and Ravenna settled beside him.
She turned to him, expectantly. Silver smiled and handed her the small pill.
"You will be fully healed in about two hours," he said, while taking his own," If you want to sleep, you can sleep, I’ll wake you up when we reach the Sanctuary."
"How long?"
"Around four hours," he quietly said," we are severely off course."
"Okay."
The engine started. Silver turned the car back towards the route they had come from since it had the shortest way home.
Several kilometers passed before either spoke. Eventually, Ravenna broke the silence.
"We should leave soon."
Silver glanced toward her.
"For the Academy?"
She nodded. The answer had come naturally as though both had been thinking about it, which they both had.
While Ravenna didn’t possess an admission letter, that wasn’t important anymore; not with a soul capacity of nineteen and an elemental beast.
With her talent, if she wanted admission the Academy would practically fight itself trying to recruit her.
Silver smiled slightly.
"We have one month."
Ravenna leaned her head against the window.
"That’s not enough time. We need to do a lot of things..."
"No, it’s not. But we’ll have to squeeze out time in that period."
The Academy gathered monstrous geniuses. These were young contractors who had spent years preparing, talents from dozens of sanctuaries; children raised specifically to become powerful.
A month sounded long but it wasn’t. Not in terms of progression and becoming stronger.
Silver tightened his grip on the steering wheel.
"I need to rank up."
Ravenna laughed softly.
"We both do or we’ll be dead in our first month."
Silver nodded.
Rank One contractors were beginners, nothing more. The Academy accepted them because of their potential. Real strength came later, after more integrations, battles, and surviving long enough to grow.
The thought made Silver increasingly certain of something. He couldn’t stay in Delta-3 much longer, not with his powers hanging over his head like a blade. The secret couldn’t remain hidden forever, eventually, someone would notice and questions would be asked.
The thought of what would happen next made his skin crawl. Silver had absolutely no interest in that future.
"We need to leave fast," he blurted out.
The words escaped before he could stop them. ƒrēewebnoѵёl.cσm
Ravenna turned.
"Fast?"
Silver nodded.
"The sooner we reach the Academy the better."
That part wasn’t a lie. Ravenna studied him for several seconds then nodded. She knew the predicament he was in with his powers.
"I’ll start packing tonight," she calmly said.
Silver glanced toward her briefly before looking back at the road.
"You don’t have to hurry," he quietly said," I still have a few loose ends to make. If I leave just like that, we’ll be adding more problems before clearing the first."
"Okay."
Silver was about to end the conversation when something flashed through his mind.
"Ravenna," she turned to him," I didn’t want to burden you with this but..."
He didn’t know how to word it without being weird or offensive to her. He knew he didn’t have to tell her but it was better for her to know.
"What is it?"
"My EX, no... My situationship might come to find you," he calmly said," I can’t really monitor everything she does but I just wanted to tell you in advance. She is extremely manipulative so just ignore her if she comes to you."
Ravenna was now fully looking at him.
"Really, is she really that bad? I’ve heard rumours that she’s akin to an angel," she said, pulling the word.
Silver glanced at her once before nodding.
"She’s bad... I don’t want you surprised," he calmly said," she saw us together and... yeah."
She nodded, almost dismissively.
"Yeah, I get it. I’ll deal with her if she decides to give me a visit. " she nonchalantly replied and leaned further back into the seat.
Silver didn’t know what she was thinking but he knew he needed to warn her. He wanted to leave the Sanctuary peacefully but they would eventually meet. He knew Cruella could easily get under people’s skin.
They spoke about useless things a little bit longer before the conversation eventually died down as Ravenna fell asleep.
