Chapter 328: Chapter 326: Go Get a Sex Change, She Likes Cute Girls
Mia Grant didn’t expect to see Simon Adler again.
They ran into each other at Jynsia U. Mia had planned to pretend she didn’t know him, but Simon Adler suddenly called out to her in front of a group of university administrators.
The looks from the administrators immediately changed.
Fortunately, Simon Adler offered an explanation. "Silas Grant asked me to bring you something."
’There’s that familiar excuse again.’ Mia didn’t expose his lie, knowing he was just saying it for the benefit of others. She nodded obediently, playing along with his act.
She stood to the side, waiting and waiting. Bored, she started chatting with Simon. "Where’s Lee? I’m surprised she didn’t come along."
"She’s on vacation right now. She won’t be back until next month," Simon said, smiling at her.
Mia glanced at the figure who stood out conspicuously among a crowd of middle-aged and older people not far away. She clicked her tongue softly. "What’s he doing at Jynsia U?"
"Work, of course." Simon winked mysteriously, then whispered conspiratorially, "The boss donated four labs to the physics department in the name of one of his subsidiary companies."
"..." Mia’s eyes widened. "Really?"
"Yep." Simon nodded. He didn’t forget to put in a good word for Simon Adler. "Our boss is a great guy, right?"
Mia pursed her lips. "This is Jynsia U, one of the top universities in the country. Donating in the company’s name just makes it easier for future collaborations, doesn’t it?"
"He’s still just doing it for himself."
Simon was at a loss for words.
’Well, that’s true.’
Mia Grant wasn’t the type to be blinded by the illusion of such a small favor.
’A businessman naturally acts out of self-interest. If there’s no profit to be made, wouldn’t that just be actual charity?’
’How many businessmen can go that far? Giving back to society so generously?’
’Unless they have a guilty conscience and need to do some real charity to soothe their inner turmoil.’
Mia wasn’t a three-year-old. Why would she fall for Simon’s nonsense?
Simon gave a dry laugh and decided to change the subject. "Miss Grant, have you been busy during your vacation? Why haven’t you visited Portia? I heard you and Simon Sinclair have acknowledged each other as father and daughter. I thought you might go back for a short stay."
"I have no desire to go back to that godforsaken place anytime soon." Mia tossed her hair and cursed without reservation, "Bad juju."
"..." Simon laughed again. "Yes, yes, some unpleasant things happened before, but hasn’t the dust settled now? Portia is very safe these days."
"When I say bad juju, I’m not just talking about the old man. I’m also talking about your boss."
Mia clutched her laptop and pouted. "I must have forgotten to check my horoscope today. If I’d known, I would’ve just skipped class."
Simon couldn’t manage a laugh this time.
"Can I be so bold as to ask a question?"
"Go ahead."
"Miss Grant, why do you dislike our boss so much? In terms of looks, background, and work ability, he’s second to none, right?"
"At the very least, he’s considered one of the most eligible bachelors by the unmarried women of Portia’s elite families."
Mia’s gaze met Simon Adler’s from a distance. She was the first to look away. "Eligible bachelor, I can believe that."
"If it were me, I’d think he was suitable too."
Simon’s eyes lit up. ’Simon Adler has a chance!’
But Mia’s next words hit him like a ton of bricks.
"Since it’s all about arranged marriages anyway, instead of marrying some playboy, a calculating old geezer, or a block of wood, it’s better to marry a prideful workaholic who never comes home."
"That way, I can start the countdown to celebration from the very first day of marriage."
"C-Countdown?"
"Yep. Get promoted, get rich, and have your husband die. Two of life’s three great wishes would be on the verge of coming true."
"A workaholic is bound to die from overwork sooner or later."
"..."
Simon felt his vision go dark.
The conversation was well and truly dead.
After a moment, Simon gritted his teeth, unwilling to give up.
"Miss Grant, does our boss really not have a single chance?"
"He’s not my type."
"Because of his looks?"
"He looks fine."
"Then his personality isn’t likable?"
"It’s certainly not likable, but that’s not the main reason either."
Before he could ask any more questions, Mia said bluntly, "I have no intention of dating anyone."
"But the people around you..." Simon’s words died in his throat, as he probably realized what he was about to say was inappropriate.
"Who told you I was dating them?"
Mia was unruffled. "Have I ever admitted to it?"
Simon was speechless.
"Then... then..."
"Then what?" Mia unwrapped a piece of candy and popped it into her mouth. "You can go back and tell your boss that I’m not into men."
Simon’s eyes widened. "?"
He stared at her, trying to find any trace of a joke on her face.
But the young woman’s cool eyes were filled with solemn seriousness.
"Tell him not to waste his time on me."
"Can’t you really give it a try?"
"Sure. Tell him to go to Thailand and get gender reassignment surgery."
"..."
"Oh, right. I like cute girls with big eyes."
"..."
Simon pictured the scene and felt his vision go dark, then dark again.
「 」
In a milk tea shop, Mia Grant took the drink Simon brought her and said thanks.
Then, Simon handed a coffee to Simon Adler.
"Boss, they only have lattes here."
Simon Adler told him to leave them.
Once Simon was gone, he didn’t make a fuss. He used the straw to taste the liquid in the plastic cup that was called a "latte."
"How is it?" Mia asked with a smile.
"It’s alright." Simon Adler nodded seriously and commented, "I thought it would just taste a little more flavorful than water."
Mia laughed. "You’re surprisingly down-to-earth."
’If it were Silas Grant and the others, they wouldn’t be able to drink something like this.’
’Kian Keller wouldn’t take a single sip.’
’Silas Grant would probably try a sip with a smile, then absolutely never touch it a second time.’
’The others would probably drink it to be polite, but they definitely wouldn’t think it tasted good.’
"I’m just an ordinary person."
"Oh? I thought an arrogant, proud man like you would think of himself as exceptionally noble."
"That’s Silas Grant," Simon Adler retorted.
Hearing him throw shade, Mia couldn’t help but laugh out loud. "You’d better say that to his face."
"What’s the big deal?"
With the jokes out of the way, Mia asked him what he wanted from her.
"Nothing important. I was just in the area and wanted to get a drink with you."
Mia rolled her eyes at him, thinking he was being completely insincere.
"If you have something to say, say it. Beating around the bush and being deliberately mysterious is really annoying."
Hearing her say that, Simon Adler actually engaged in a rare moment of self-reflection.
"You like people who are direct? You never gave me a pleasant look before."
’Ah, that’s true. He used to be very sharp-tongued and didn’t beat around the bush at all.’
’It was just that Mia hadn’t paid him any mind back then.’
"So you just hate me as a person."
Mia leaned back in her chair, not holding anything back, and nodded lightly. "Good thing you’re at least a little self-aware."
"I was originally going to have Simon pass on the message. But since you’re asking, I’ll just be direct."
"It’s less that I hate you and more that we both detested each other from the start."
"I admit that I’m great in every way, so it’s only natural that you’d like me. It just proves your orientation is normal."
"..."
