Chapter 327: Chapter 325: The Love Security Guard Is Back Online

When the car came to a steady stop at the gates of Jynsia U, the blush on Mia Grant’s face still hadn’t completely faded.

"Are you sure you don’t want me to drive you in?" Yates Donovan glanced at the dark street ahead.

"No, it’s fine."

Mia Grant unbuckled her seatbelt. "The dorms are really close to this gate. It’s only a three or four-minute walk."

"But won’t that be cold?" Yates Donovan propped his head on one hand, languidly watching her gather her things. "If you won’t worry about yourself, then I’ll have to worry about my wifey."

"You’re already so delicate. What if the wind makes you feel unwell again?"

"..."

Mia Grant’s face burned even hotter. At a loss for words, she could only shoot him a reproachful glare, willing him to stop calling her that.

’It sounds... weird.’

She wouldn’t let him drive onto campus, and Yates Donovan didn’t push it, but he had no intention of letting her walk in alone.

He had been planning to walk with her for a bit and see her to her dorm building, but then a figure near the gatehouse caught his eye, and he froze.

A moment later, a knowing smile spread across his face. "Alright, still not ready?"

"What’s the rush?" Mia Grant zipped up her jacket and, not giving him a chance to hurry her again, pushed the door open in a huff.

"Hey, wait a second."

With lightning-fast reflexes, Yates Donovan grabbed the fluffy little charm on her bag and gave it a gentle tug, pulling her back.

"What are you doing?" Mia Grant’s tone was sharp.

The next second, Yates Donovan pulled a box out of the center console. Before she could ask, he unzipped her shoulder bag and stuffed it inside.

"A gift in return."

He grinned and gave her cheek a light pinch. "Happy Valentine’s Day, babe."

Mia Grant hmphed before finally getting out of the car.

The car behind her didn’t leave; its headlights remained on.

Mia Grant had only taken a few steps when she saw the figure standing by the gatehouse.

She froze, subconsciously tightening her grip on her bag strap as she walked over. "What are you doing here?"

Felix Sinclair’s calm gaze rested on her flushed cheeks. He stepped forward, took off his own scarf, and wrapped it around her neck. "I just got back from off-campus."

"Let’s go. It’s cold out here."

Mia Grant murmured in agreement and fell into step beside him.

Their figures grew smaller in the distance, about to disappear from Yates Donovan’s line of sight.

He squinted, admiring the sight for a good while. ’They really do make a well-matched pair.’

’The love security guard is back on duty. Might as well see this good deed through to the end.’

He switched the headlights to high beams. The figures walking ahead paused, then glanced back in his direction.

Even though he knew she couldn’t see him, Yates Donovan couldn’t help but laugh out loud.

Only when their figures were completely out of sight did he switch off the high beams and drive away.

"You got the thing I sent you, right?"

"I did." Felix Sinclair nodded. After a moment’s thought, he added, "Thank you. I like it a lot."

Remembering the random stuff she’d sent, Mia Grant couldn’t help but laugh at his words.

"Do you really like it?"

"Mhm. I may not need it right now, but I’m sure the need will arise in the future. It’s always good to be prepared. I like that."

Mia Grant smiled and looked at him, trying to find any trace of a lie on his face. Unfortunately, there was none.

His eyes were sincere, not wavering in the slightest as he gazed into her clear ones.

Mia Grant was mesmerized for a second before she snapped out of it, her eyes curving into a smile. "I’m glad you like it."

"I just changed my major, so I have a lot of classes. That’s why I haven’t had time to contact you these past two days. I’m sorry."

At the mention of this, Mia Grant pressed her lips together. "You don’t have to apologize to me. It’s fine for you to be busy. It’s just..."

"Changing your major... you really don’t regret it?"

"Really, you should just focus on what you love. You don’t have to do this for me."

"It’s not just for you."

"When you stay in a field you’re good at for too long, it’s bound to get a little dull. It’s nice to have an opportunity like this to step out of my comfort zone."

Mia Grant listened as he explained, his tone measured. It seemed he had already prepared himself for the long haul and was now determined to specialize in physics.

Hearing this, she was filled with a mix of emotions.

How could she not know his real motive? But compared to what Kian Keller had done, she found it impossible to be angry at Felix Sinclair for this.

There was only helplessness.

But she also knew what was done was done; there was no way she could dissuade him now.

That was just the kind of person Felix Sinclair was: rigid, with an undercurrent of obstinance.

Once he set his mind on something, no one could change it.

After a long moment, Mia Grant let out a deep sigh.

"You really can’t do this again."

"You have to think of yourself first. The things I said... that was just me talking on a whim. You don’t need to take it so seriously."

He didn’t say anything.

Mia Grant’s shoulders slumped. "You really have to promise me. Otherwise, I’m really going to... ignore you for a very long time."

When it came to Felix Sinclair, she couldn’t even bring herself to say harsh words.

She wanted to threaten him, but she was afraid of her words being too harsh.

Felix Sinclair’s eyelashes fluttered, but he remained silent.

Anyone else would have readily agreed, just to move on from the topic, even if they didn’t mean it.

But Felix Sinclair was someone who didn’t know how to lie.

He didn’t want to lie, and he didn’t want to just brush her off with an empty promise.

"Felix." Mia Grant stopped walking and tugged on his sleeve, making him stop too.

They stood face-to-face under a streetlight. She looked determined to get the answer she wanted tonight.

"If you don’t promise me, I really will ignore you."

Her words seemed to have no effect on him. Even though she repeated herself, he remained unmoved.

Mia Grant grew frustrated. "I’m not kidding. You always put me first. I know you’re very good to me, but... if you put yourself in my shoes, don’t you think this kind of behavior also puts a lot of pressure on me, even if you don’t see it?"

Finally, the young man before her reacted. His gaze trembled.

Mia Grant silently breathed a sigh of relief and continued, "I’m not saying your intentions are bad. I’m very grateful to you. It’s just that, when I have a quiet moment to think about it, I realize there are some things I just can’t bear."

"If you want to do something for me, but the price is sacrificing something of your own, I think maybe we could... talk about it? Find a balance."

Mia Grant changed her approach, thinking this would be easier for him to accept.

"Love isn’t one-sided giving; it should be a two-way street. When you go this far, I might not be able to repay you."

He opened his mouth, about to say something. Mia Grant knew what he meant. "I understand, you don’t want anything in return. But I’m not that heartless. So while I’m touched, I also feel a little sad."

"Does that make sense to you?"

She grabbed his arm, tilting her head up to look into his eyes.

Felix Sinclair met her gaze for a moment, then slowly nodded. "Okay."

Seeing this, Mia Grant’s expression softened. She smiled and linked her arm with his. "Let’s go. You’ve been waiting for me a long time, haven’t you?"

"...It was fine."

She was calling his bluff, but that didn’t mean he had lied.

Initially, she had asked him why he was at the gatehouse.

He had indeed just come back from off-campus. What he had conveniently omitted was that... he had come there specifically to wait for her.
