Chapter 48: Chapter 48: The Red Light and the Earthquake

Just before Rin went to find Aurelia to help her,

"By the way, don’t you think it’s too quiet around here?" Charlotte said.

Rin and Miyuki, hearing Charlotte’s words, immediately looked around.

"Yeah, you’re right, it’s too quiet and still," Miyuki said.

"And I feel like I have a really bad premonition," Rin added.

Not long after, the Ashen Fang troops arrived, riding mechanical dragons.

The three of them were shocked to see this.

"What is that?" Charlotte asked.

"Whatever it is, you better tell Ryutaro now," Rin said.

"But are you sure it’s okay for you both to stay here?" Miyuki asked.

"Don’t worry, we’ll hide here until we know whether they’re enemies or not," Rin reassured.

"Alright then, take care of yourselves," Miyuki said.

Miyuki quickly got out of the car to call Ryutaro about the troops.

Soon after Miyuki contacted Ryutaro, Rin received a telepathic message from him.

"Rin, can you hear me?" Ryutaro’s voice echoed in her mind.

"Ryutaro? Yes, I can hear you. What’s going on? Do you know those troops?" Rin replied.

"Yes, I know them. They’re the Ashen Fang group, and they’re very evil," Ryutaro responded.

"Evil? So what do you want me to do? Fight them all?" Rin asked.

"No, if it comes to that, we’ll take care of it. But I need you to keep Aurelia safe inside. I’m worried that they’re not the only ones sent here," Ryutaro said.

"Alright, but are you sure you can defeat them?" Rin asked.

"Don’t worry, I’ve beaten them once before. I’m sure I can do it again," Ryutaro reassured her.

"Alright, I believe in you, Kevin’s kid," Rin said.

"Thanks, Rin, for your help," Ryutaro replied.

Ryutaro ended the telepathic conversation, and Charlotte, who was next to Rin, was confused by Rin’s silence.

"By the way, why have you been so quiet? Are you okay?" Charlotte asked.

"Oh, I’m fine. I just got a telepathic message from Ryutaro," Rin replied.

"Telepathy? What did he say?" Charlotte asked.

"He asked me to keep Aurelia safe inside because he suspects that there might be more than just them sent here," Rin explained.

"More of them? So they’re really an evil group?" Charlotte asked.

"Yeah, that’s what he said," Rin replied.

"Alright then, you go ahead. I can look after myself here," Charlotte said.

"Are you sure? You just recovered from Elisabeth’s mind control, didn’t you?" Rin asked. ƒгeeweɓn૦vel.com

"Yeah, it’s fine. I can handle myself. You go on before something happens to Aurelia," Charlotte insisted.

Rin, hearing Charlotte’s words, reluctantly left the car to help protect Aurelia, despite being concerned that Charlotte had only just recovered from Elisabeth’s influence.

Some time later, after Charlotte left to guard Aurelia, she suddenly saw a red light in the forest.

"What is that? Why does that light seem so familiar?" Charlotte wondered as she gazed at the red light.

She immediately started heading toward the light.

Back to the present.

After a long wait, Rin, Aurelia, and Lilith were finally freed from their confinement.

"Finally free!" Rin exclaimed.

"But seriously, your magic was so hot. It almost cooked us both," Aurelia said.

"Well, that was the only way to get us out of that cage, Onee-chan," Lilith pointed out.

"See, Lilith gets it. What’s important is that we’re free now, right?" Rin said.

"Alright, alright, you win. I admit defeat," Aurelia said, laughing.

The three of them laughed, while Valerius, who was watching his cage crumble, couldn’t believe it.

"Impossible, how did you break free from my trap?" Valerius demanded.

"It’s not impossible. We had someone who knew your magic and its weaknesses," Rin replied.

"Impossible. Lilith knows all my magic and its weaknesses, but no one has fire magic that strong," Valerius said.

Seeing Valerius’ ignorance, Rin smirked slightly.

"(Smirking) It seems you haven’t seen much of the outside world, huh? Maybe you think no one can have magic that strong, but the world is vast," Rin said.

Hearing Rin’s words, Valerius fell silent for a moment.

"Now for the final blow," Rin said.

Rin immediately gathered her magic in her clenched fist.

"Blazing Tap!"

As soon as Rin uttered the name of the technique, her fist was surrounded by fire.

She charged toward Valerius to strike him. Even though Valerius activated all his protective magic, it was all destroyed instantly.

When the protective magic shattered, Rin’s punch landed squarely on Valerius’ face, knocking him to the ground.

"H-How could I lose? Who are you really?" Valerius stammered.

"Me? I’m just the protector of a friend’s child. That’s all," Rin said.

Moments after Rin spoke, Valerius finally lost consciousness.

Aurelia and Lilith approached Rin and asked if she had killed Valerius.

"So, did you kill him?" Aurelia asked.

"Of course not. I just knocked him out," Rin replied.

"That strong attack only knocked him out?" Lilith asked.

"Of course, I didn’t use all my power for an attack like that. Besides, we still need information from him, don’t we?" Rin pointed out.

"You’re right. He can’t just die like that. We still need information from him," Aurelia agreed.

After saying this, Aurelia noticed Lilith looking at Valerius with some concern.

"Why are you looking at him again? Do you regret following us?" Aurelia asked.

"No, Onee-chan. I just imagined that if he were like me, maybe he wouldn’t have gotten hurt like this," Lilith said.

"But he’s only unconscious, right? And as for his wounds, didn’t you say he has a passive regeneration skill? Those wounds should heal," Aurelia pointed out.

"You’re right. I guess I’m just a little worried," Lilith admitted.

After hearing Aurelia’s words, Lilith quickly regained her composure.

Rin, Aurelia, and Lilith left the house to check on Ryutaro and the others.

Meanwhile, on Ryutaro’s side...

After being struck by Orpheus’ attack, Ryutaro immediately got back up.

"Good, Ryutaro. If your strength were weak, I wouldn’t be entertained," Orpheus taunted.

"Of course, if my power were weak, I wouldn’t be here," Ryutaro said.

Ryutaro dashed toward Orpheus to deliver a punch.

But Orpheus easily blocked Ryutaro’s attack.

"How is that possible?" Ryutaro exclaimed.

Ryutaro, shocked, took a few steps back as his attack was easily blocked by Orpheus.

"It seems like we haven’t seen each other in a while. You haven’t gotten stronger, have you, Ryutaro?" Orpheus said.

Hearing Orpheus’ provocation, Ryutaro quickly prepared his magic, but he stopped when he felt a powerful earthquake.

"Wait a minute, Orpheus, do you feel that earthquake?" Ryutaro asked.

"Are you trying to stall, Ryutaro? Don’t..." Orpheus started.

Before he could finish his sentence, Orpheus also felt the earthquake.

"You’re right. There’s an earthquake here. What exactly is happening?" Orpheus asked.

"Don’t ask me. I’m here too. If that’s the case, then we should take a break from this fight," Ryutaro said.

"Hmm, fine. After the earthquake, we’ll resume our fight," Orpheus agreed.

Ryutaro and Orpheus stopped their fight because of the earthquake, but soon after, a towering red light appeared from deep within the forest.

Meanwhile, on the other side, Grace, Alice, Miyuki, Rin, Lilith, Aurelia, Zarek, and Sylvara also felt the same tremor that Ryutaro and Orpheus had felt. They all stopped their battles and headed toward the location where Ryutaro and Orpheus were.

What exactly is the red light? Is it the cause of the earthquake they felt? Is the red light the same as the one Charlotte saw? And did Charlotte cause this red light to appear, as well as the earthquake they all felt? Stay tuned for Chapter 49!
