Chapter 23: Transmigrated To A Frozen Wilderness
Wind continued blasting snow into the room, the temperature began to drop. So I quickly closed the window, the curtains stopped whipping, as gusts no longer chilled the room. I still left the curtains drawn, gazing outside far beyond the treeline. Clouded with snow, heavy, just white replaced the ground.
"How is this possible? I didn’t sense anything."
Quinette finally spoke, it didn’t make sense to her just as it didn’t to me.
Eventually she opened the door.
Swoosh.
It was the same as wind rushed in the moment the door opened, but she shut it closed immediately.
Confirming it was actually real.
To be able to cut out this entire room with spatial magic, would be an almost impossible feat, doing it without even sensing their mana.
The sounds of blades singing followed, while I was at the window, I peered over my shoulder.
Quinette was already prepared. She clenched the hilt of her sword, and its sharp, double edges glowed with mana. Crimson with dark highlights.
She advanced cautiously, turning around, watching every edge of the building.
For a moment she remained still. I could only imagine she was trying to sense any mana signature close by.
But no need, my senses had to be far superior and I couldn’t sense anyone close by.
Up until now.
I snapped to the door. Far off outside, a mana signature so faint, but it was present. It didn’t feel weak but rather suppressed.
I sighed, they had to choose the worst time to transmigrate me.
Cause presently I was in a sleeping robe with nothing under but my underwear. Stepping into the cold would be very uncomfortable.
Of course I adapt to the cold but at first I’ll have to go through the chilling condition till it gets worse. Causing damage to me, then would my adapt ability be triggered.
I hesitated to go through the door, yet the signature on the outside felt familiar. I shut my eyes to try focus on it to find why it felt familiar.
Abruptly my eyes snapped open back.
"She’s here."
I muttered to myself.
Quinette heard, she stepped close to the door.
"Who?"
"The one who tried to assassinate me but failed." My face hardened, she had brought me to face her. In her own realm, which I’d say was bad.
She’ll know the place more than me. I don’t know how many traps, tricks, or devices she holds ready to be deployed the moment I step outside.
Besides that.
I turned to Quinette who was alert.
I don’t know Quinette that well, her fighting capacity. Neither do I trust her. But we’re in the same condition for now. I had to have a bit of trust in her for now.
"I don’t sense anyone." Quinette said, adjusting her stance. She studied me skeptical.
"Well I do."
I reached for the door knob, the steel already freezing cold.
I opened the door, gusts of snow invited themselves in. The chilling wind. I already began to shiver. The howling wind accompanied with tiny pieces of ice piercing into me. Like tiny needles.
I wrapped my arms around myself. Then took a step, taking the lead. My footsteps crunched in the ice. Buried deep as it reached almost knee deep. The cold wrapped my leg, taking away the little warmth.
Still I forced a second step forward.
Crunch, crunch, my steps were draggy having to walk through heaps of snow.
Each breath I took misted. My lungs were filled with the freezing air.
My body shivered.
Yet I pressed onward to the mana signature, looking up ahead I could barely see what was in front. Just snow white.
Quinette on the other hand, took off into the sky leaving a force of wind behind. Her wings flapped, keeping balance as she looked up ahead.
Apart from tracing this mana signature we had to map this environment, know where we are, what we should avoid.
Well the cold was making it easy for us.
Some steps further, I stopped, sighting a silhouette up ahead.
They were fully cloaked, their cloak flapping in the wind, as they stood imposingly on the main road.
I held my steps.
Raised my hand, signaling Quinette to halt. She stopped midair. Looking down at the person. freewёbnoνel.com
I didn’t approach, planted myself in the cold as snow began to gather on my hair.
Their face, is what I wanted, the mana already confirmed it, she was the same one.
Few seconds later, she turned around.
Under her hood, copper hair spilled, scales at the bridge of her nose, her eyes slit, held a mischievous, now a vicious stare in them.
Her wings were hidden under the cloak, her tail slipping from under the cloak.
As she displayed a grin.
"You bastard."
I raised my voice, loud enough so the howling wind don’t swallow it.
"I’ll make sure I’ll kill you this time."
The ginger bitch laughed.
"Hahaha."
Her laugh grew loud. It surrounded me like she was speaking from all around. She bent over, gripping her stomach unable to control herself from endless laughter.
She stopped laughing, calming her breath back.
"You’ll kill me? I don’t think so. I was barely even trying to kill you back then... but now I’m make sure you don’t leave this place alive."
I stayed silent just after, before addressing Quinette whose eyes were focused on the copper dragon.
"Quinette do you recognize her?"
The howling wind made it hard to speak, so I raised my voice which was rather stressful.
"No I don’t."
Those were Quinette’s words before readying her blade for an attack.
At first I had suspected, with Aria, she was using magic to alter her look.
Now I’m seeing her better. Our assumption is solid.
With my mana sense, my vision shifted into negative light. I could see her shape. Light heat waves, her mana cloaked around her, like a second layer of skin.
She wasn’t a dragon.
But why she was sent for me was the main mystery I wanted to figure out.
Asking who sent her, would surely get no answer so.
"Why do you want me dead, uh? I’m just a peasant given a title I don’t deserve. Do you even have an objective? Or you just some damn psychopath with no purpose."
I said trying to pull out the words from her. Somehow it got to her.
"You don’t know the grand mission I serve."
She said with so much pride in her voice.
"Something so noble you would never understand... and you’re a blockage to that plan. My purpose."
"How am I a blockage?"
"Your existence is and I’ll make sure your life ends here."
Suddenly, chains appeared around her, dark metal.
I took a foot back, Quinette’s mana flared.
Indistinct incantations escaped from her lips. Her head dropped down, her body fully propped by the chains, which lifted her in the air.
Shattered.
The fragments, little shards sent into the air, dissolved into nothing.
But as the chains were gone, her mana flared, heavier than before. Covered in a pitch-dark aura, the trees shook. With it the wind became more violent.
"Hahaha. Now you witness what I’m truly capable of."
She wasn’t holding back anymore, unleashing her full mana on us.
This is bad news.
I could feel the pressure alone, enough to drop me to my knees but I stood, holding on.
[Mana scan: ??? (SSS Rank)]
I glanced at her mana scan.
"So this her full power... I’ll need to go all out too."
