Chapter 43- The Rune Of Reality (Part 2)
The fire flew toward Zen rapidly while the boy tried to climb to the top. Looking back, his face darkened as he tried to swing out of its path. However, he was a split second too late.
’Shit, it’s going to hit me!’ He clenched his teeth. However, a moment before it could hit him. The rune at the top suddenly shone with a bright light before a red barrier appeared around the statue out of nowhere. The fire hit it and dissipated instantly as if it was never there in the first place.
"Huh?" Zen looked up and was shocked to witness it. ’The rune... It reacted to the attack?’
"Dammit." The man cursed as he rushed forward. ’Why is that damn thing doing that? Why is it protecting him?’
With his hand, he launched several more fireballs, but they all hit the barrier, and they immediately perished. The barrier was simply far too strong to break through, even though the fire couldn’t eat through it.
Meanwhile, Zen continued climbing up. He didn’t know why the rune was reacting right now, but he didn’t want to wait and see. If he got such an opportunity, he wanted to make use of it. freewebnøvel.com
"Get down!! You bastard!" Kaiser reached the statue and tried to climb to the top. However, the moment he touched the statue, he felt a rush of violent energy invade his body that sent him flying several dozen feet back as he rolled on the ground. He cried in pain as he held his side.
"What... the hell?!" He yelled as he looked up at the statue. It had pushed him back as if it didn’t want him to even touch it. He slowly stood up and looked at the statue. "Why?! Why are you pushing me away?!"
He yelled at the rune, knowing that it had a consciousness of its own. However, he didn’t understand why it didn’t push the kid away either. It made no sense.
"I’m far stronger than him! I am far more capable than he is! I am far more worthy!" He yelled like a crazed man while watching Zen climb to the top and hang from the stretched hand of the goddess.
Moving slowly toward the rune, he felt the radiating energy coming from the rune. However, as strong as it was, it oddly didn’t push him away like he expected it to do. Instead, it was almost as if the energy was pulling him in, beckoning him to touch the rune. Zen could tell that this rune, for whatever reason, didn’t seem to be repulsed by his presence.
’I wonder what would happen if I touch it. It isn’t showing any signs of rejection.’ He thought to himself. He looked down at Kaiser, who appeared completely out of it as he tried to reach into the statue, only to be thrown back.
’Hmmmm, interesting.’ Zen thought to himself before he looked at the grey rune. Eventually, he decided to stretch his hand closer and touch it. The energy wrapped around his arm warmly, as if it was trying to guide it there. Zen’s eyes reflected the grey light, and he felt the energy almost seeping through his skin into his muscles to ease his pain.
’A bit closer...’ He thought to himself as his finger tip got close to the rune. Then... One single touch.
All he needed to do was one single touch before everything around him suddenly shifted beyond recognition. The dark room he was in was gone, and he found himself in a completely grey world. It was a vast, empty space where nothing existed.
It took Zen to realize that even the statue he was hanging from was gone, and he was now standing on his feet. It just happened faster than his eyes could even blink.
"..." He looked left and right in awe. ’Space manipulation? It’s not the rune of reality for no reason.’ He thought to himself. "Why am I here, though?"
His voice echoed through the vast space, coming back to him from a large distance. For a while, he walked aimlessly through this empty space, not knowing where he was or if something bad had happened to him.
’Did I die? Or maybe I’m reincarnating again?’ Zen asked himself. However, for some reason, this didn’t feel like it. He didn’t feel... dead. At least not in the traditional sense.
Just as those thoughts settled in his mind, he suddenly heard a voice speak to him from the emptiness.
"You are not dead, child."
The voice was very sweet and soft, shaking him to the bone as he stopped and looked around him. "Who is there? Show yourself."
"You do not need to see what would harm you, child."
"... Harm me? Who are you?" Zen frowned.
"Feel free to address me as Liserva, the Goddess of reality and truth."
"Liserva?" Zen was shocked to hear that name. ’The actual Goddess Liserva?’
Zen naturally knew of her, but he had never thought that a day would come when he would talk to a deity directly like this. It was a first for him and perhaps every other human in the world.
"Indeed."
"That is... unexpected. Where am I?" He asked.
"You are in my domain. You are safe from his hands."
"... I see," Zen said. "Well, why am I here? Is it because I touched your rune?"
"I wished to see the very first creature worthy of my rune and talk to him. Hm, I see that you are quite special." She said calmly. "Something about you is different from the rest."
’Is she reading my mind?’ Zen asked himself. ’This is so odd.’
"So you say I’m worthy of the rune? Really?"
"Indeed. I have left that rune in the temple under the hands of the Wood Folks to protect it until the rightful owner comes along and takes it. The power of reality shall be in the hands of those who are worthy of it." freewebnσvel.cøm
"Why am I worthy? And why would you want to give this power to anyone?"
The Goddess didn’t reply immediately, as if she was thinking. "Is it that hard to find a reaso-"
She then cut him off as she said. "I can tell, child, that this isn’t your first life."
"..." Zen’s eyes widened to the extreme. "What?"
