Chapter 5: I killed her

[POV: Arthea]

Today was the worst day of my life.

I once thought I would become a towering figure, someone who would leave their mark on history. Especially after I awakened a ridiculous power – one so extraordinary that even my father, whom I had always believed to be the strongest human alive, stood frozen when he witnessed my awakening.

My relatives shared the same reaction as my father from that fateful day onward. Soon, the news spread, and people all over the world felt the same awe.

I believed it was my destiny ... until that nightmarish day arrived.

During the darkest time of my life, all I wanted was reassurance – just a few simple words of encouragement. But no one gave me any.

My father looked at me with relief in his eyes. The sense of security and confidence he had lost seemed to return to him.

The others were no different.

And today, they abandoned me for a perverted piece of trash and forced me to marry him, all just to fulfill some bullshit promise.

I’d rather die than marry him.

Even if they promised to protect me and take me back after he was dead, I didn’t believe them.

They had already used me once. They could do it a second time.

It would be better if I died today... but I changed my mind.

My anger had overwhelmed even my depression and my desire to die.

I would kill that trash with my own hands before taking my own life.

A few minutes later, I heard the door open, and a shadowy figure stepped into the room.

It had to be my maid. She must have knocked him unconscious.

I would kill him tomorrow.

I glanced down, shock flickering across my face when I saw my husband. Why was he still alive?

I asked, my voice tinged with uncertainty.

"Where is my maid?"

My husband shrugged and answered in a flat, matter-of-fact tone while preparing a drink.

"I killed her."

I wasn’t sure whether I had heard him correctly.

He was nothing more than the garbage of a powerful family. I had personally witnessed his true capabilities at the banquet long ago.

A cowardly, weak, and pathetic man who tried to draw everyone’s attention through his disgusting actions.

Meanwhile, my maid was one of my strongest guards, recruited recently because she possessed [B-Rank] Potential. She had a promising future ahead of her as my future head maid.

It couldn’t be.

When I saw my husband approaching me, I instinctively tried to crawl away. My limbs were still too weak to support me, so I could only push myself back with my shoulders.

I ended up falling off the bed and landing pathetically on the floor.

I had to run... I didn’t know what kind of sickening things he would do to me, and I didn’t want to find out.

No...

The moment he carried me in his arms, all strength left my body. I could only tremble helplessly.

I had never looked so pathetic.

I wanted to cry.

But he didn’t do anything sickening to me... He placed me back on the bed before bringing a drink to my lips.

He said,

"Drink it."

I asked,

"Is there something in it?"

But I immediately lowered my head when he looked at me with the same cold, hollow eyes as this afternoon. I was afraid of them.

I was scared he would use my weakness to force me into something.

In the end, I drank it without hesitation.

Damn it. Since when had I become this obedient?

I wanted to kill him and wash away this humiliation.

[POV: Henry]

After giving my wife a special sleeping draught, I returned to my side of the bed to rest and waited for the system’s notification to appear.

Martial Arts:

– Ballroom Dancing (SS+)

You’re a master of dancing to any song in the world. No one can dance as beautifully as you.

– Master-Level Cooking (SS-)

You’re capable of cooking with any ingredients in the world, turning even a stone into a delicious meal.

– High-Speed Driving Technique (SS+)

You possess skills to drive any vehicle in the world, mastering cornering, drifting, slipstreaming, and many other advanced driving techniques.

I squinted as I stared at the martial arts manuals in front of my eyes. Then, I glanced at my wife, who was already fast asleep.

I wondered whether the royal family possessed many strange manuals or not.

And why had my wife taken the time to learn all these things? I sighed.

I could never guess what a genius was thinking. Perhaps she simply had too much free time when most of the martial arts she had learned were already stored in the royal family’s archives.

The martial arts:

– Abyssal Shadow Step(SSS+)

You possess a masterful footwork technique—each of your steps flickers in and out of existence like a shadow god, leaving no trace of movement. No one is able to catch up to you. Yet, this technique is extremely difficult to learn; even those with SSS+ potential would still lose several years mastering it.

Bloodline Skills:

– Ironbound Will (B+) [Passive]

Your will remains unbreakable even in the presence of higher-ranked awakeners’ aura.

– Body Reinforcement (D+)

Your body gains physical strength several times beyond its current rank.

I smirked as I gazed at the martial arts and bloodline skills I had just received from my wife. There was one thing I couldn’t deny – she was, without a doubt, a literal monster.

Just imagining her without being crippled, I was certain no one her age would be able to defeat her.

She was a genius among geniuses.

"What a pity."
