Chapter 20: Dawnreach City

’’Wake up!’’

Bonk!

’’Wake up, idiot!’’

Bonk!

A wave of faint pain ran across my forehead, causing me to crack my eyes open. The first thing I saw was my wife’s angry expression.

She was still beautiful as usual, glaring at me with her amber eyes. A faint red mark lingered on her forehead. I could tell she had headbutted me to wake me up.

I blinked for a moment before getting out of bed. I looked over my body, trying to feel my strength. Indeed, I felt a big difference.

I had become stronger.

In order to check it in detail, I mentally summoned my status.

Title: The Chosen Villain

Name: Vyral Carlson

Age: 19

Rank: [F–] (272/1000) → (573/1000)

Potential: [SSS+]

Title: King of Knights

Name: Arthea Albert (Wife)

Age: 18

Rank: [F–] (54/1000) → (323/1000)

Potential: [SSS+]

I couldn’t help but utter a single word.

’’Woah.’’

This blanket was a treasure for cultivation. I glanced at my wife before speaking up.

’’From now on, we’ll sleep together more often.’’

My wife was nearly startled by my words. She immediately objected.

’’NO! I DON’T ACCEPT THIS!’’

I shrugged indifferently.

’’Why? Give me a reason. Both of us become stronger just by sleeping together. I’ve never seen anything this easy before.’’

I was certain that my wife already felt much stronger than yesterday. At this rate, our goal of reaching F-Rank before heading to the academy wouldn’t be a problem.

A hint of embarrassment appeared in my wife’s eyes as she struggled to say it.

’’Because... I’m embarrassed.’’

I frowned and scratched the back of my head. I sighed.

’’From tomorrow on, I’ll change your clothes for you and maybe even help clean you up.’’

Anyway, we were already married. Being shy around each other was one of the things we needed to get rid of.

He believed that the system would send even more bizarre missions in the future, so he had to fix her before that time came. It would benefit both of them.

Just like that, I walked to the door, ignoring my wife’s pleas and curses.

Two hours later, I came back and did the rest of the maid’s work myself. I fed her, then prepared a few things before heading to the Hunter Association.

We chose an F-Rank gate and cleared it.

Now, my wife was able to smoothly manipulate five sewing needles at the same time. She could kill more monsters and also protect herself.

Meanwhile, I continued to practice my swordsmanship. My wife provided rapid support thanks to her [PRIMAL SWORD MANUAL].

It was an excellent manual. Its primal swordsmanship techniques improved my skills a lot.

My mastery rose from 1% to 5% that day.

After clearing the gate, we went home, took a bath, ate, and slept as usual.

In the morning, my wife continued to headbutt my forehead to wake me up. Indeed, whenever I hugged her while sleeping, it became harder to wake up as early as I used to.

Then, I checked my status. To my surprise, we were already at the bottleneck of [F– ]-Rank. According to my prediction, we would rank up to [F]-Rank on the morning we arrived at Dawnreach City.

I nodded to myself before cleaning my wife’s body. My wife thought I was just kidding about that, but no. I was an honest man.

She screamed, sobbed, and scolded me the whole time. Even after I finished, she kept crying and cursing at me nonstop.

We continued to clear the last [F] gate today before thinking about tomorrow – the day we left the territory of the Albert family to Dawnreach City.

I glanced at my wife, who was just staring into nowhere with hollow eyes. Sometimes she cried alone and muttered to herself.

I thought I had gone too far, but I didn’t care. She would get used to it.

In the afternoon that day, I decided to reward myself with a nap with my wife, and at the same time, we cultivated.

But Polly suddenly called me, saying that my father had arranged a dinner that night.

I thought it was a farewell, because I wouldn’t be returning for at least two years, unless something unexpected happened.

I jumped off the bed and began to change clothes, then I did the same for my wife. But strangely, my wife barely screamed or scolded me this time. Instead, I only saw two streams of tears running down her cheeks.

She groaned in powerlessness and deep embarrassment.

’’I give up.’’

Then she glanced at me with eyes full of hatred.

’’Once I recover, the first thing I will do is beat you into pulp.’’

I just replied to my wife in a neutral tone while putting her noble dress on.

’’Not kill me?’’

My wife just huffed and turned her gaze away.

Around 30 minutes later, we headed straight to the main family dining room. My father was already sitting there.

I calmly pushed the wheelchair forward before carrying my wife to the seat next to me.

It was a quiet dinner evening as ever until my father asked my wife:

’’Why are your eyes swollen? Did you cry?’’

My wife just answered in a calm voice.

’’Your beloved son bullied me, father.’’

Well, she didn’t lie to my father anymore. She didn’t even hide her annoyance in front of him. But it would be effective, as my father liked opposition and defiance.

My father just tried to control his smile before continuing to eat.

Then he asked me. His voice was no longer gentle toward my wife.

’’Did you kill Doran?’’

I just nodded.

’’Yes, I killed him.’’

My father nodded in satisfaction.

’’I like how you made Percival take the blame for you. However, be careful at the academy. By royal decree, no family is allowed to interfere with the academies’ business. I won’t be able to protect you there. I’m telling you in advance that I won’t help you with anything, including money.

Plus, it’s a good opportunity for you. Build yourself a small circle of allies. Remember, no one can reach the top alone. At least until you’re strong enough to stand on your own, make connections.’’

I nodded, offering no objection to my father’s words. Because I understood them very well. My failure in my previous life was clear proof of that.

’’I’ll find myself some useful tools.’’
