Chapter 39: Chapter 39: Registering the Marriage

Wyatt Shaw pointed to his abs and then to his face. "I’ll just sit by the door and act like a statue. Then the customers will come pouring in."

Yvonne Sutton covered her eyes and laughed. The image that popped into her head was, for some reason, hilarious.

"Oh, I’m sorry. You must have gone through a lot of hardship before."

Yvonne Sutton tried her best to suppress her laughter and put on a look of pity.

Wyatt Shaw nodded. "It was pretty tough back then."

"But you’ve made it through now."

"I guess so."

Yvonne Sutton lowered her head and took another bite of noodles. "This bowl is too much. I can’t finish it."

"Eat some more."

Yvonne Sutton didn’t finish it all. She was about to take the rest to the kitchen to throw away, but Wyatt Shaw took the bowl and finished it off in a few big bites.

"What are we doing today?" Yvonne Sutton asked as she helped Wyatt Shaw clean up the kitchen.

In the past, cooking, cleaning the kitchen, and washing the dishes were all things she did alone. Now, Wyatt Shaw was sharing most of the burden.

"We’re getting our marriage license today."

Yvonne Sutton blinked. "Today?"

Wyatt Shaw tilted his head to look at her, a deep smile in his eyes. "From the moment you agreed to marry me, you weren’t allowed to back out."

After cleaning the kitchen, the two of them went upstairs to change.

Wyatt Shaw emerged from the walk-in closet first, dressed in a white shirt, looking clean and noble, like a prince. When he put on a black suit jacket, he instantly gained an air of mature authority, like a king.

Yvonne Sutton was mesmerized. She was only snapped out of it when he kissed her and pushed her onto the bed. Seeing that things were about to get out of hand, Yvonne quickly begged for mercy.

After a good while, he finally let her go, allowing her to get changed.

Yvonne Sutton changed into a white dress and walked to the mirror. She looked at herself for a moment, then began to apply her makeup. She didn’t usually like wearing makeup, but when standing next to Wyatt Shaw, she felt like a flower that needed to be a little more vibrant to truly complement him.

Wyatt Shaw had already made an appointment, so they started the process as soon as they arrived. The moment the red stamp came down, Yvonne Sutton’s heart settled.

She was really married. Married to Wyatt Shaw.

It was a risky decision, but so far, she felt great about it.

Coming out of the Civil Affairs Bureau, Yvonne Sutton sat in the car, looking at the marriage certificate in her hands over and over. The feeling was strange and wonderful. She had gone from being all alone to suddenly being Wyatt Shaw’s wife, and Wyatt Shaw had entered her life to become the most important person in it.

"Mr. Shaw, Miss Sutton, congratulations to you both." Mr. Webb congratulated them, his face beaming with joy.

Yvonne Sutton thanked him, then turned to look at Wyatt Shaw. She found him already watching her, a smile in his eyes.

"Wh-why do you keep staring at me?"

Wyatt Shaw reached out, pulled her into his arms, and couldn’t resist stealing another kiss. "Let’s not go out today."

"That sounds good."

He leaned in close to her ear and whispered, "Just stay home. In bed."

Yvonne Sutton’s face flushed red, and she pinched his waist. He just held her tighter, then rested his head on her shoulder and laughed.

"What’s so funny?"

"Uh, I wasn’t like this before."

"Like what?"

"So lustful."

"..."

"But with you, I can never get enough."

Yvonne Sutton rested her head against his chest, silent for a moment before saying, "I’m married to you now."

"Mm-hmm."

"In the future, I can accept divorce, but I can’t accept betrayal."

Wyatt Shaw lifted her chin, his eyes narrowing slightly, and then he gently bit her lower lip.

"I won’t. I promise."

"I won’t either. I promise," she said with complete seriousness. freewёbnoνel.com

Back home, Wyatt Shaw pulled her upstairs to change, saying he was taking her out for some good food. Yvonne Sutton changed into jeans and a cardigan. When she saw Wyatt Shaw hadn’t come out of the dressing room yet, she went out to take out the trash.

Just as she tossed the garbage into the bin, she happened to run into Vincent Reed and Wendy Winters returning home. The two of them seemed to be arguing.

"Is this one small request really that hard to grant?" Wendy Winters got out of the car angrily.

"I’ve already contacted the buyer for Cloudsea Castle. They made it clear that the east wing has already been booked, and they can’t give it to us. If you’re not happy, we can pick another venue. Didn’t you like the idea of a beach wedding? We can switch to an island resort," Vincent Reed said, looking annoyed.

"I just don’t like being one-upped. If not, then the island..."

As she was speaking, Wendy Winters spotted Yvonne Sutton. She immediately extinguished her anger and plastered on a happy smile.

"Yvonne Sutton, what a coincidence! Oh, by the way, Vincent and I are discussing wedding venues. Maybe you can give us your opinion?"

Yvonne Sutton snorted. "Sure."

"Uh, have you heard of Cloudsea Castle?"

Yvonne Sutton let out an exaggerated "Wow!", intentionally putting on a dramatic expression. "Of course I have! Back when your fiancé was still my boyfriend, I told him I loved the idea of a castle wedding, and that getting married at Cloudsea Castle would be unforgettable."

Then she put on an envious look. "Are you guys getting married at Cloudsea Castle? You were able to book it? That must have been so hard, right?"

Wendy Winters lapped up Yvonne Sutton’s apparent envy.

"Yes, we’re holding our wedding at Cloudsea Castle. You have to come when the time comes."

"Of course," Yvonne Sutton said.

Wendy Winters was happy now. She turned to Vincent Reed and said, "Then let’s book Cloudsea Castle."

Vincent Reed sighed in relief. Then he looked over at Yvonne Sutton and immediately saw the marks on her neck. Guessing what they were, his face instantly darkened.

"Y-you have a boyfriend?"

Yvonne Sutton found this amusing. "What’s it to you?"

"I’m just worried you’ll end up with the wrong person."

"My judgment is terrible, it’s true. After all, I was blind for eight years."

After saying her piece, she shot him a cold glare and turned to walk back to her house.

Back at home, Wyatt Shaw was just coming downstairs. He had changed into a pair of dark blue casual pants and a light gray sweatshirt. Unlike the commanding and noble aura from before, he now looked clean and sunny, like a college student fresh off campus.

’He seems to have so many sides, and every single one is so attractive.’

"Perfect. We’re a couple of college students now," he said, clearly pleased with her outfit.

"College students?" Yvonne Sutton asked, confused.

"I’m taking you to eat where college students eat."

Wyatt Shaw walked over, suddenly lifted her up, and sat her on top of the shoe cabinet. Startled, her hands flew to his shoulders to steady herself, and he took the opportunity to give her a quick kiss.

"Let me put on your shoes for you."

"I can do it myself..."

Before the words were even out of her mouth, he had already dropped to one knee, picked up her sneakers, and put them on for her.

"Is this a first-day-of-marriage perk?" she asked jokingly.

Wyatt Shaw took her hand and kissed it. "This is a perk of being married to me. You’ll get it every day from now on."

When they left again, they didn’t call for Mr. Webb. Wyatt Shaw drove himself.

Half an hour later, the car stopped outside an alleyway behind Aethelgard U. The alley was too narrow and chaotic for the car to drive in.

The two got out of the car, and Wyatt Shaw took her hand, leading her inside.

She was all too familiar with Aethelgard U and its surroundings, having gone to school here for eight years.

"You didn’t go to Aethelgard U for college, did you?"

Otherwise, with a face like his, he would have been the talk of the entire campus. There’s no way she wouldn’t have heard of him.

"No, I went to college abroad."

Yvonne Sutton was still puzzled. "But how do you seem so familiar with this place?"

Wyatt Shaw smiled. "Whenever I came back to the country on break, I basically holed up here. After I started working, I mostly stayed in an apartment not far from the office and still came to live here the rest of the time. I only went back to the villa occasionally."

No wonder she’d never run into him at the villa. Yvonne Sutton looked at the buildings lining the narrow alley; they were mostly old, dilapidated, and gloomy houses that had been around for decades.

"We’re here." Wyatt Shaw pointed ahead. "The diner my buddy opened."

Yvonne Sutton followed his finger and saw an open-air food stall with a sign that read ’The Lucky Spoon Diner.’

’You’ve got to be kidding me. It’s a small world.’
