Chapter 58: Chapter 58 Promise

Sylvia’s POV

I winced as his fingers grazed a tender spot on my scalp—a small friction burn from my struggle earlier. Instinctively, I pulled away from his touch.

"It’s nothing, just minor scrapes," I said quickly, avoiding his penetrating gaze.

Even after everything that had happened, after the way he’d rescued me and that earth-shattering kiss in his car, my walls remained firmly in place. "You should go now. I can manage on my own."

The bathroom suddenly felt too small, too intimate with Caesar’s towering presence. His scent—pine, winter air, and something distinctly alpha—surrounded me, making it hard to breathe. Hard to think clearly.

I noticed his eyes darkening, the muscle in his jaw tightening. Even now, after he’d seen me at my most vulnerable, I couldn’t let him in. Couldn’t show weakness.

"You call these ’minor’?" His voice dropped an octave, concern edged with frustration.

Not catching the shift in his tone, I shrugged. "Yeah, it’s nothing serious. I’ll be fine after some sleep."

All I wanted was a hot shower to wash away the grime and memories of those men’s hands on me. When I looked up to dismiss him again, I found myself caught in his intense gaze—those silver-blue eyes that seemed to see straight through my carefully constructed defenses.

"What is it?" I asked, genuinely confused by the emotion I saw there.

"Sivi," he said softly, using that nickname that somehow felt both foreign and familiar. "I wish you wouldn’t be so stubborn. You don’t have to shoulder everything alone. You can lean on me. You don’t always have to be so strong."

His words froze me in place.

No one had ever said anything like that to me before. Since childhood, Mother had drilled independence into me—an Alpha’s daughter shows no weakness, needs no comfort. After my failed attempt with Zane, I’d doubled down on that philosophy, convinced I could handle anything life threw at me without assistance.

Yet here was Caesar, offering what no one else ever had—permission to be vulnerable.

I didn’t know how to respond. My throat tightened with unexpected emotion.

"I... I understand. Just please go now," I managed, my voice betraying me with a slight tremor as I averted my eyes.

The bathroom felt suffocatingly small with him so close. His scent enveloped me completely, my inner wolf responding to it in ways I wasn’t prepared to acknowledge. I could feel my body betraying me, leaning imperceptibly toward him despite my words.

Caesar’s eyes traveled over my bruised body, his expression softening into something that made my heart stutter.

"Alright," he conceded with reluctance. "Take your time. If you need anything—anything at all—just call for me."

When he finally turned and left, I sank into the bathtub with a shaky exhale. The day’s events crashed over me like a wave—the betrayal, the kidnapping, and most confusingly, Caesar’s unexpected appearance in my life. Everything felt surreal, as though I’d stepped into someone else’s story. frёewebnoѵel.ƈo๓

I submerged myself completely underwater, letting the warmth soothe my aching muscles. Here, in this moment of solitude, I could admit to myself how terrified I’d been before Caesar arrived. How relieved I felt when he carried me away in those strong arms.

By the time I emerged from the bathroom wrapped in a plush robe, Caesar had showered as well. He stood near the window, towel-drying his damp hair, wearing nothing but a bathrobe that clung to his broad shoulders and defined chest. The casual domesticity of the scene struck me with unexpected force.

The intimidating power that normally surrounded him had softened around the edges. He looked more approachable, more human—though no less dangerous to my carefully guarded heart.

A blush crept up my neck as I caught myself staring at the triangle of tanned skin visible at his chest.

"Feel better?" he asked, his deep voice breaking the silence.

"Mmm," was all I could manage, suddenly self-conscious.

With casual grace that belied his massive frame, Caesar picked up a hair dryer from the dresser. "Let me dry your hair for you."

My first instinct was to refuse—to maintain the distance that had kept me safe for so long. But something in his gentle offer broke through my defenses. If he wanted to take care of me, just this once... why fight it?

I sank onto the edge of the bed, surrendering to the moment. Caesar stood beside me, his tall figure casting a protective shadow that seemed to envelop me completely. The strange sense of safety I felt in that shadow surprised me—I, who had never felt truly safe with anyone before.

His hands were surprisingly gentle for someone so powerful. Long fingers worked carefully through my damp strands, never pulling or tugging. The warmth of the dryer combined with his tender ministrations sent pleasant shivers down my spine.

I closed my eyes, allowing myself this small moment of vulnerability. My wolf practically purred with contentment. freeweɓnovel.cøm

"Why are you doing this?" I asked softly, the question slipping out before I could stop it.

His hands paused momentarily in my hair before resuming their gentle work. "Because you deserve to be taken care of, Sivi. Whether you believe it or not."

But even as I allowed myself to enjoy his ministrations, an unwelcome thought crept into my mind—his memo and the mysterious woman he’d been pursuing before me. The "first love" he truly wanted.

My mood darkened without warning. I couldn’t understand why this bothered me so much. It wasn’t as if I had any real claim on his heart. This was a marriage of convenience, nothing more.

Yet I couldn’t help remembering my own buried feelings—the ones I’d kept hidden for so long with Zane, never daring to reveal my true self. Was I making the same mistake again?

Caesar’s silver-blue eyes remained fixed on my hair, handling each strand with a reverence usually reserved for precious artifacts. Those same powerful hands that signed billion-dollar contracts and commanded respect throughout the werewolf world were now tenderly drying my hair as if it were the most important task he’d ever undertaken.

If his Beta could see this now, he’d probably think the moon had fallen from the sky.

By the time my hair was finally dry, I’d come to a decision in my tangled thoughts. Whatever our arrangement, Caesar was now my intended mate. As long as he maintained a basic level of respect toward me, I wouldn’t interfere with his personal affairs or past attachments.

But basic dignity was non-negotiable. We both deserved that much.

"How did you find me today?" I asked, curiosity finally getting the better of me.

When those men had surrounded me, when I’d felt my strength failing and my options disappearing, I’d truly believed the worst was about to happen. Then Caesar had appeared, his fury more terrifying than anything I’d ever witnessed.

Caesar’s expression darkened as he considered my question. "When your phone kept going to voicemail, I knew something was wrong."

I could see his hands clench into fists at the memory, his knuckles whitening with suppressed rage.

"I see," I nodded, understanding now how he’d tracked me down. His werewolf senses must have done the rest once he started searching.

"What will happen to those men?" I asked, wondering how far his influence extended into human law enforcement.

Caesar met my eyes, his gaze intense and unblinking. The message was clear—he would do whatever I wanted. Those men’s fates rested in my hands.

I considered it for a moment, weighing vengeance against practicality. "Let the police handle them," I finally decided. "Let justice take its course."

They hadn’t succeeded in their attempt, after all. Prison would be punishment enough—and I knew enough about Caesar’s connections to understand that their time behind bars would be particularly unpleasant. I wasn’t feeling merciful, just practical.

Caesar nodded, running his fingers through my hair one last time. "Consider it done."

I didn’t press further. The speed with which the police had arrived earlier told me all I needed to know about Caesar’s influence. Those men would face consequences, with or without my direct involvement.

I had more important things to focus on—like reclaiming my strength after today’s violation and figuring out what exactly I wanted from this arrangement with the most powerful Alpha in the country.

With my hair finally dry, exhaustion hit me all at once. I collapsed onto the bed, too tired to even pull back the covers.

Caesar reached over and switched off the light before settling in beside me. When his arm slid around my waist, I stiffened instinctively. Before I could voice an objection, his deep voice rumbled near my ear. "Rest easy. You’re safe now." The warmth of his body against my back was both foreign and comforting.

"Will you go to work tomorrow, or would you prefer to stay home and recover?" he asked, his breath warm against my neck.

I shook my head stubbornly. "I’ll go to work as usual. Nothing... nothing actually happened today." I wouldn’t give those men the satisfaction of disrupting my routine, of making me appear weak.

I waited for Caesar’s response, but none came. Assuming he’d fallen asleep, I was about to let myself drift off when his voice—low, solemn, and filled with a promise that made my wolf’s ears perk up—broke the silence.

"I swear to you, Sivi, this will be the last time anyone ever threatens you. On my life and honor as Alpha."
