Chapter 16: Chapter 16 Do You Know Him?
Sylvia’s POV
I felt my breath catch in my throat. Instinctively, I leaned back slightly, but he caught my wrist and pulled me into his embrace in one swift movement.
"If you don’t say anything, I’ll take that as permission to continue," he whispered, his voice rough with desire as his lips hovered tantalizingly close to mine.
His mouth claimed mine in a kiss that started gentle but quickly deepened, threatening to consume every last shred of my self-control.
His strong arms tightened around my waist, pinning me between his hard body and the couch. His gaze burned into mine with an intensity that made my wolf stand at attention.
I closed my eyes and surrendered to his tender assault on my senses...
The next morning, I woke to find the space beside me empty. Rubbing the sleep from my eyes, I sat up and pushed back the silk sheets. My fingers absently traced my slightly swollen lips, still tingling with the memory of Caesar’s kisses.
I found Caesar in the kitchen.
His broad shoulders and narrow waist cut an impressive silhouette, the fluid lines of his muscles evident even beneath his tailored suit. I couldn’t help but appreciate his physique as he moved confidently around the kitchen.
Morgana’s words suddenly echoed in my mind: "My cousin’s build, his looks, his body... no ordinary man can compare." Looking at Caesar now, I realized she hadn’t exaggerated one bit.
"What are you thinking about?" Caesar asked, placing breakfast on the table and sitting across from me.
I snapped out of my thoughts and quickly shook my head. "Nothing."
"Drink this before it gets cold," he said, handing me a glass of warmed milk.
I accepted it gratefully, taking a small sip while my mind wandered. I stole glances at Caesar over the rim of my glass, silently acknowledging how captivating he truly was.
This feeling was entirely new—waking up to breakfast with a man, sharing domestic moments. Even during my three years with Zane, I’d never spent the night at his place. Surprisingly, this felt... right.
The eggs Caesar had prepared were cooked to perfection, the yolks a tempting golden color with edges of the whites delicately crisp. I bit into the bread, savoring its soft texture and subtle wheat aroma.
"Is it good?" Caesar asked, his usually intense eyes surprisingly gentle as they watched me eat.
"Yes, very," I nodded, unable to stop the smile that formed on my lips.
"If you like it, I’ll make it for you often," he said, reaching across with a napkin to gently wipe some crumbs from the corner of my mouth.
My cheeks warmed at the intimate gesture, my heart quickening as his fingers brushed against my skin. After breakfast, Caesar cleared the table while I settled on the couch, gazing out through the floor-to-ceiling windows at the bustling city below.
"What are your plans for today?" Caesar asked, joining me after washing the dishes.
"Not sure yet," I turned to look at him. "What about you?"
"I thought we might shop for clothes, maybe pick up a few things for our new home," he suggested, casually draping his arm around my shoulders. "Would you like that?"
"I’d like that," I nodded, surprising myself with how easily I was adapting to this new dynamic between us.
Soon we were driving to a nearby shopping center. I’d never been particularly interested in shopping, but Caesar seemed genuinely enthusiastic, a side of him I wouldn’t have imagined.
He held my hand as we moved between stores, selecting scented candles, dinnerware, and various home essentials. I followed behind him, watching his focused expression as he carefully considered each item, something stirring inside me at this glimpse of his domestic side.
"What do you think of this fragrance? Jasmine—refreshing, isn’t it?" Caesar held an elegant diffuser bottle beneath my nose.
I inhaled lightly, the delicate jasmine scent immediately calming my senses. "It’s perfect."
"We’ll take it then," he smiled, placing it in our shopping cart before leading me to choose dinnerware.
By the time we finished shopping and left the mall laden with bags, I felt my energy waning, my pace slowing considerably.
"Tired?" Caesar noticed immediately, adjusting his stride to match mine.
I nodded, rubbing my slightly sore ankle. "A little."
"Let’s head home then," he said, taking the shopping bags from my hands despite already carrying several himself.
As we were about to leave, passing a women’s clothing store, I suddenly froze in my tracks.
"What is it?" Caesar asked, following my gaze to where a man in a business suit stood inside, adjusting his tie in the mirror.
My expression instantly cooled. It was Leo—the man who had fired me from the company just yesterday.
Though I possessed evidence of his embezzlement and sexual harassment, remembering my mother’s cold reaction yesterday filled me with a sense of powerlessness. The Frostfang Pack’s Alpha had made it clear that my problems were my own to solve.
Caesar noticed my sudden change in demeanor and traced my line of sight. "You know him?" he asked, his voice taking on a dangerous edge that made my wolf stir with anticipation. freewebnovel.cσ๓
I could feel his energy shift beside me, his protective instinct rising as he sensed my discomfort. Unlike Zane, who had always dismissed my concerns, Caesar seemed acutely attuned to my emotions, ready to defend what was his.
"Yes," I replied quietly, my eyes never leaving Leo. "That’s the man who fired me yesterday—right before you found me in the rain."
"Tell me what happened," Caesar said, his voice low and controlled, but with an undercurrent of fury that made the hair on my arms stand on end.
I took a deep breath, trying to steady my racing pulse. "Yes, that’s Leo. The bastard who fired me."
Caesar’s silver-blue eyes eyes narrowed dangerously as he studied Leo through the store window. I could feel the tension radiating from his powerful frame, his wolf clearly agitated by my distress.
The dressing room door swung open, and my breath caught when Sunny Brown emerged in a slinky red dress that clung to every curve. My former project partner looked completely transformed from the modestly dressed colleague I knew at Frostline Enterprises.
"Darling, what do you think?" Sunny purred, draping herself over Leo’s arm with a familiarity that made my stomach churn.
Leo’s beady eyes roamed over Sunny’s body with disgusting hunger. "Perfect. Just sexy enough to make me want to tear it off you later."
My nails dug into my palms. How could Sunny do this? She had no idea about my true identity as Frostfang’s heir, but still - cozying up to that predator? The implications made bile rise in my throat.
A warm hand settled on my shoulder. "Don’t waste your energy on them," Caesar murmured, his deep voice laced with quiet fury. "They’re not worth it."
I nodded numbly, letting him guide me away. Once in the car, I gripped the seatbelt so tightly my knuckles turned white. The memory of Mother’s dismissive reaction to my evidence against Leo still burned like acid in my veins.
The city lights blurred past as Caesar drove. "Penny for your thoughts?" he asked, his profile sharp and beautiful in the passing streetlights.
"Just... company matters," I muttered, staring out at the darkening skyline.
The silence stretched until we reached Caesar’s penthouse. As I moved to exit, his strong fingers closed gently around my wrist. "Do you need me to handle Leo?" The quiet intensity in his voice sent shivers down my spine.
I shook my head. "I’ll deal with this myself. Frostline is my birthright - and I’ll return on my own terms." My voice hardened. "Sylvia Frost doesn’t take betrayal lying down."
Caesar cupped my cheek, his thumb brushing my skin with aching tenderness. "Then don’t hold back, little wolf. I’ll be right behind you every step of the way."
Two days later, when I learned Leo was still strutting around Frostline like he owned the place, white-hot rage turned my vision red. I slammed my foot on the accelerator, tearing through the city toward Frostfang Manor.
The ancestral home looked deceptively peaceful in the afternoon sun. I stormed through the grand foyer, my heels clicking sharply against the marble floors. The scent of lilies did nothing to calm the storm inside me.
"Mother," I bit out, finding Alpha Astra sipping tea in the solarium. "Has Leo been dealt with yet?"
She set down her cup with a sigh. "It’s complicated, Sylvia. He saved Selene’s life once." ƒree𝑤ebnσvel.com
"Saved her life?" My laugh was razor-sharp. "So that gives him license to embezzle? To harass women? To destroy everything we’ve built?"
"Really, Sylvia," Selene descended, she purred, draping herself against Mother’s arm like some prized pet."Must you be so dramatic about Leo? He did save my life, you know."
Her sickly-sweet tone made my stomach churn.
