Chapter 856: Chapter 856. Chase

"How do I get to this island?" Kailen thought.

"I should study this whirlwind for a while; perhaps I can figure something out."

Kailen decided to study the whirlwinds for a while.

With his principle of space activated, he was able to get a clearer view of the whirlwinds and their patterns of movement. He took notice of everything.

However, nothing changed. The whirlwinds kept circling across the seas for a very long time.

Suddenly, the whirlwinds disappeared.

Kailen, however, did not rush to make a move.

"Was it a random disappearance or a triggered phenomenon?" Kailen thought.

He observed for a while.

Suddenly, a sea creature gallivanted in and out of the ocean.

The moment that happened, a whirlwind of space appeared and whizzed towards the sea creature.

The sea creature was drowned in the whirlwind of space. Its figure flickered in and out of existence, let out wails of death, and turned lifeless. Its dead body floated on the sea surface.

However, the whirlwind did not disappear. It kept whizzing across the oceans for a long time.

Kailen was patient; he was noticing some sort of pattern.

"That’s the same amount of time it remained across the sea after killing those five fellows. It seems the whirlwind is a triggered mechanism to prevent entry to the island.

When a chaotic beast or a sentient lifeform appears close to the island, the mechanism is triggered. Then, they are killed by the whirlwind or whirlwinds, depending on the threat level. After the assumed threat is eliminated, the mechanism ensures the whirlwind roams the place for a period of time, to ensure that if any other threats are in the vicinity, they are eliminated. If no threats are available, the mechanism is deactivated," he thought. "Possibly, a creature on the island, or a natural mechanism of the island, could be responsible for triggering the whirlwind or whirlwinds. But, can’t I simply meld with the void and appear on the island? No... I don’t think that’s possible. Had that been possible, those five people who died would have tried it.

There’s most likely a restrictive mechanism too, that prevents beings approaching the island from using the full extent of their spatial principles to teleport from anywhere to the island directly. So, one can still use their spatial principle to meld with the void, but the distance of their travel, regardless of their power, is restricted to a point where they can only appear a few moments away from where they previously melded with the void."

Kailen sighed.

"Now that I have a theory, how do I make use of it to get to the island?"

Kailen was in thought for a while, thinking of multiple approaches and contingencies. However, only one seemed very plausible.

It was risky, but it was plausible.

"What happens when there are about a thousand beings headed towards the island? Can the whirlwinds kill all of them at the same time? I doubt it. It will eventually happen, but it will take time. I could use that to my advantage. Hmmm... I could make use of some chaotic beasts."

Kailen disappeared from the mountain peak, heading back to a previous forest he came across.

When he arrived there, several eagle-looking chaotic beasts were flickering into the void and reappearing across the place. There were about 200 of them.

They were all rank 2 intermediate stage Chaotic beasts.

"Great... they can’t kill me... good enough to use them as a distraction, and a bulletproof, and not get harmed."

Kailen openly floated before them.

The creatures surprisingly ignored him.

One of the eagle-looking creatures was caressing its newborn.

Kailen snorted. He gestured with his hand.

A large spatial slash cleaved through the mother eagle-looking creature and its newborn, killing them. Spatial principle fragments appeared above their dead bodies.

The moment the creatures saw him, their eyes flashed with a glint of ferociousness and anger.

This kin of theirs had just given birth and they were celebrating. To think this tiny creature would appear and kill them both?

If they did not kill this tiny creature, then they were not the overlords of this vicinity.

The eagle-looking chaotic beasts screeched.

A very large fellow leading them flapped its wings. It melded into the void and reappeared before Kailen.

The remaining followed suit.

Kailen was calm.

They had taken the bait.

He turned around to flee.

He kept melding with the void and reappearing, as he headed towards the beach.

The 197 spatial eagle-looking creatures kept following him, their figures flickering into the void and reappearing after him.

They would launch various spatial principle attacks towards him. Spatial arrows, arcs, claws, amongst others. But Kailen kept evading their attacks with uncanny precision.

The creatures followed him. They grew more angry and impatient.

Eventually, they arrived on top of the mountain that faced the beach.

Kailen did not hesitate to zip through the skies.

The creatures followed suit.

They were currently above the oceans, headed towards the island.

"No whirlwinds yet. Looks like we are not in the vicinity where the triggered mechanism appears," Kailen thought.

He melded with the void again and reappeared.

Compared to previously when he was at the beach and not above the sea, he did not reappear too far from where he had melded with the void.

"So the mechanism that limits the use of the principle of space is confirmed," he thought.

Suddenly, a whirlwind appeared. Then another.

Soon, seven colossal spatial whirlwinds appeared, zipping across the seas, heading towards Kailen and the eagle-looking chaotic beasts following him, from different directions.

"About time," Kailen thought.

He melded with the void and reappeared in the midst of the eagle-looking creatures chasing after him.

Several of the eagle-looking creatures died as the spatial whirlwinds blitzed through them.

Kailen kept reappearing behind several eagle creatures, using them as shields to evade the attacks of the spatial whirlwinds.

His eyes were calm. He had to be calm and be rational, and not lose his cool. Else, he would die.

"Almost there."

Kailen stared ahead. He was close to the island. Just a few moments and he would arrive.

"130 of these creatures are dead. If they all die before I arrive, I will be next, since I won’t have a shield," Kailen thought.

A resolute glint flashed in his eyes as he appeared ahead of the eagle-looking creatures.

The eagle-looking creatures, who were eventually about retreating because of the deaths this tiny creature had led most of them into, revealed extreme hatred in their eyes.

Was this tiny creature trying to escape after all the deaths it had caused them?

They flapped their wings, blinked out of existence, and appeared close to him.

"It worked," Kailen thought.

The moment they appeared behind him, several spatial whirlwinds zipped towards him.

Kailen disappeared into the middle of the creatures.

The ones at the front died.

10 creatures remaining.

"Almost there."

Kailen reappeared ahead of the creatures.

He melded with the void again. He appeared at the beach of the island.

The spatial storms, however, zipped through the remaining eagles, who had been screeching in anger towards Kailen, killing them.

"Don’t tell me the whirlwinds are about to appear on the island?" Kailen sighed. He was nervous.

The spatial whirlwinds, however, circled around the seas surrounding the islands. They did not approach the islands.

"This is by far one of the craziest plans I’ve ever come up with. Glad it worked," Kailen sighed in relief.
