Chapter 45: 45. My Baby.
Austin’s eyes widened the moment he saw the system message floating in front of him.
His heart instantly began to beat fast and hard against his chest as he stared at the words displayed before him a second time.
[Congratulations to the Host! Nora has successfully given birth to your first child.]
[You are now, without a doubt, a father.]
For a few seconds, Austin just stared at the glowing words, feeling completely frozen.
But then the reality of what had occurred hit him.
"I’m... a father?" he whispered with a questioning look on his face before the words finally sunk in realisation of his new identity. freewёbn૦νeɭ.com
"I’m finally a dad!!!"
Joy instantly exploded inside his chest and his hands started shaking.
A huge smile spread across his face, but at the same time his eyes grew watery.
Austin couldn’t believe what he had just seen.
First he had almost died in that forest and had even regretted leaving Nora behind.
But now he was a father, and right now Austin was not prepared to waste another second in this room.
He had to see his wife and child, and he had to see them now.
And so, with this thought in mind, Austin didn’t waste another second.
He jumped out of bed so fast that the blanket flew off.
Of course, he was wearing a new set of clothes different from the ones he had been brought back in, but he didn’t care.
In fact, his mind hadn’t even registered that fact yet, because all he cared about right now was his wife and child.
And so, he rushed out of the room with the door slamming open behind him as he ran down the long hallway of Rowena’s mansion.
The hallway was wide with an elegant atmosphere, beautiful wooden floors, and soft sunlight coming through the tall windows.
There were even paintings of forests and primitive-looking elves hung on the walls, but Austin didn’t care about any of that.
He knew what mattered right now, and his feet followed his instincts.
His bare feet slapped against the cool floor as he ran, but two maidservants carrying trays of fruits saw him and quickly bowed respectfully.
"Sir Austin! You are awake!" one of them said, looking surprised and relieved at the same time, as she asked softly.
"How are you feeling? Everyone was so worried when that strange lady brought you back unconscious."
The beautiful elf asked but Austin didn’t stop walking.
Instead, he quickly turned to her before replying.
"I’m fine. Where is Nora? Where is my wife?"
The maids exchanged a quick glance and pointed down the hallway.
"She is in the big room at the end of this corridor, the one with the white curtains. She has been resting there with the baby....."
She explained, but Austin didn’t wait for her to finish.
He swiftly thanked her with a quick nod and hurried off to the room.
He reached the door and pushed it open without knocking.
The door slammed open and then shut loudly behind him.
Meanwhile, inside the bright and spacious room, a beautiful wolfkin sat on a large soft bed.
She was gently cradling a small little baby in her arms as her silver hair rested softly over her shoulders.
Her fluffy white tail lay gently beside her, but the moment Austin burst in, Nora jolted in surprise.
Her silver wolf ears twitched and stood straight up as she heard Austin’s footsteps hurrying toward her.
"Nora!! Are you alright? How’s the baby?" Austin asked while his voice was filled with a mix of worry and excitement.
Meanwhile, Nora’s eyes grew moist the moment she heard his voice.
She tried hard not to cry, but she couldn’t stop the tears from forming.
Still, she quickly looked away from him to hide her tears.
This was because for the past five days since they had brought Austin back unconscious, Nora had been worried sick.
At first she had smelled the horrible scent of worm slime on his body, then the awful stench of rotten bones.
Back then, she had been terrified that he was badly hurt, but the strange naked lady who had arrived with him said she had saved him and would help remove the poison from his body. Still, Nora had been scared every single day.
She had even given Rowena her own precious 20% impurity-free healing potion to help him.
Rowena had been shocked to see the potion, but she accepted it and helped administer it to Austin.
The potion instantly healed his torn skin and burns, but it still wasn’t enough to remove the poison within his body.
And this was when the strange lady had stepped in.
She worked for three full days to pull the poison out of his body, but the third day happened to be the same day Nora went into labour.
Back then she had been terrified of being alone when she was about to give birth, with only the maids helping her.
Her mind kept worrying about whether Austin would ever wake up, but thankfully the delivery went safely and she had given birth to their little one.
But Austin still hadn’t woken up, and he eventually needed two more days before finally doing so.
So, to finally see him standing in front of her, looking so healthy and dashingly handsome as always, Nora couldn’t help but feel overwhelmed with emotion.
She swiftly turned away to look elsewhere, with her baby still in her arms of course, and she tried not to let Austin see her cry, but everything just felt so emotional right now that it was easier said than done.
Meanwhile, Austin noticed her reaction and couldn’t help but smile.
He could see that he had definitely made her worry, and he felt genuinely hurt for putting her through that.
Then he walked closer to the edge of the bed and sat down next to her as he apologised, and Nora turned toward him to rest her head on his shoulder and chest.
Of course, she tried to hold her tears in, but this only made her cry even more as Austin hugged her softly.
