Chapter 78: Chapter 78: End fight- reward points
He deactivated the field that maintained the other three. It wouldn’t be necessary anymore.
He walked forward, and immediately one of the bosses’ heads went flying.
The other two retaliated immediately. They fired beams as they towered over Roe like statues.
He wouldn’t normally have been able to react to this, but he did thanks to his staff, which immediately countered both beams with one of its own.
Only two remained.
The one that had lost its head earlier fell because Roe sharply concentrated mana in his legs to instantly cover the distance. He then followed with a concentration of mana in his fist. His punch connected cleanly.
The boss was down.
Roe had realized why others didn’t distribute their mana evenly.
’It makes attacks more explosive and powerful.’
Roe followed with another jab from below, striking the jaw of one of the bosses.
At that moment, he was sent flying back by a beam.
This boss had gotten him.
Not the one he struck.
The other one.
The one he had left for last.
He got up.
The hit barely stung.
’How did it predict my move?’
’It can’t be learning somehow.’
’No. There’s no way.’
’It just can’t. So how?’
Roe immediately fueled his fist, prepared for the next attack.
Then he noticed it didn’t come.
The boss flew into the distance.
’Don’t tell me it’s trying to run.’
Roe immediately summoned his staff and gave chase.
When he caught up, he noticed the boss was carrying something with its head bent down as it flew.
It was carrying one of the other bosses.
"Oh no."
The boss was eating the others.
Roe turned to see the other bodies were gone.
The only thing that remained was the blood of the defeated.
No corpses.
One remained, however.
The one Roe had just struck down.
Roe finally realized how the boss had timed its attack.
’It wasn’t trying to hit me.’
’It was trying to injure the other one.’
’That blast wasn’t meant for me.’
’It wanted to put that one down and consume it.’
The boss turned and fired another attack.
Roe blocked it quite easily.
When he blinked, the bird was no longer in front of him.
He turned to see it charging toward the last remaining body.
The one it had missed with its previous attack.
"Oh no, you don’t."
Roe fired a mana beam.
It connected.
The bird boss lost an entire leg and part of its torso.
It didn’t matter.
The boss pressed forward.
Roe followed with another beam.
This one was too late.
A surge of energy erupted.
The boss now stood with its missing limb and torso restored.
Roe was too late.
’Its mana.’
’It’s five times higher now.’
’So it maintains the mana of everything it absorbs.’
’I’m guessing if I kill it, it’ll keep multiplying until it reaches five again.’
’If I don’t stop the process in time, it’ll just repeat everything all over again.’
’I can’t have that.’
’I’ll end it this time.’
’I know its gimmick now.’ freeweɓnøvel.com
He fired a mana beam.
The boss evaded it much more easily than before.
The bird was evolving.
Roe knew how to counter this speed.
He had already tried something similar the day before.
’It didn’t fail because of the move.’
’It failed because of who I fought.’
"Don’t flatter yourself."
The bird obviously had no idea what he was talking about.
The creature was suddenly bathed in a raw-output beam.
It was fried and brought down.
Of course, it split again.
Now there were two.
Just as Roe expected, both maintained equal mana levels.
The boss wasn’t very conventional for an A-rank.
It started out weak, but if the process continued, it would eventually become terrifying.
The spell held all the power.
It was some kind of cultivation ability.
It allowed the boss to return stronger every time it consumed another version of itself.
Roe took it out by summoning his staff directly behind it.
It was the same move he had tried against Lot.
It hadn’t worked then.
Lot could stop time and simply evade it.
This opponent wasn’t nearly as fortunate.
Now there were two.
Then four.
Then five.
Using the exact same tactic, Roe pushed the boss all the way back to its final stage.
The boss wasn’t stupid.
It tried to react.
Whenever it adjusted, Roe repositioned his staff elsewhere.
He attacked from every angle.
Even now, he continued doing the same.
There was only one remaining.
Roe could easily activate a beam and end it.
He wanted to.
But a voice inside him discouraged it.
The voice urged him to challenge himself.
Roe was conflicted.
He knew he couldn’t afford to make a mistake.
If the boss escaped, it would simply devour the others again and return even stronger.
The cycle would continue.
The boss wasn’t even attempting to eat the others anymore.
Roe’s staff completely controlled its movements.
Whenever the monster moved, the staff followed.
Whenever the monster charged, the staff followed.
Sometimes the staff would even drift behind it, forcing the monster to turn because it refused to leave its blind spot exposed.
Roe conceded.
He gave in to the voice.
His eyes almost went blank.
He leaped.
And when he descended...
It was over.
He ended it with a single punch.
A massive shockwave followed, releasing all the energy he had gathered.
"You lied."
Roe said it in response to the final stretch not being competitive.
He had wanted a proper fight.
Yet even this A-rank couldn’t satisfy him.
The staff notified him shortly afterward.
"You’ve received twenty-five thousand points."
Roe froze.
"Twenty-five?"
He shouted in excitement.
Then he fell right out of the barrier.
He was done with the rift.
Lot didn’t receive him in what you would call open arms. Lot wasn’t around after all. He was expecting to see Lot but he didn’t after all he was hiding, sorry I mean , he didn’t want to make himself available right now.
Roe walked towards Vlad to address him about the other Emergence.
Lot thought this strange and he...
