Chapter 71: Chapter 71: Before the fight
Lot, Andrew, Perzeus, and Arthur were all here.
They had all made it to the scene.
"Wait!" Roe immediately shouted. He didn’t want them to do anything brash. After all, he was still reaching Chris.
He felt like he was reaching him.
"What’s wrong?" Lot asked.
"I need more time. He’s agreed to come with us," Roe said.
"What do you mean, more time? If he’s agreed, then let’s go already. And I hope he’s the—" Lot paused. He looked around and noticed the others watching him. "Well, he’s the new emergence, right?" he said anyway.
"What that’s supposed to mean?" Arthur asked. "You guys can’t just take him."
"Yeah, and why not?" Lot snapped back. "We found him first. It’s only right."
"Yeah, well I can’t let that happen," Arthur said in a challenging tone.
"Yeah, well, whatever. Let’s go, Roe." Lot turned away, uninterested in continuing with Arthur.
"You’re not going with, lad," Arthur said.
"If you’re going to go all medieval even for a second, at least commit to it. Don’t just stop at ’lad’," Lot replied.
"Back down. I’ll say it again."
Lot spoke again.
They were all waiting for what came next.
"Well, I’ve already said it. So..."
Silence followed.
This was the worst possible outcome.
Roe was already convincing Chris. Chris wasn’t even a bad guy. There was absolutely no reason to get forceful.
They kept arguing about which side would take Chris.
"He’s a person. He has opinions too," Roe shouted. He wasn’t shouting at Chris.
Roe shouted.
After that, there was silence.
"You’re adults, for Merlin’s sake. Be adults."
No one spoke after he lashed out.
Lot just waved his hand, signaling Roe should go.
Perzeus approached Roe and Chris but stopped short when he noticed Roe getting defensive.
"You’re no kid, so I’m sure you’ll understand. What we want doesn’t matter," Perzeus said. "This is an assignment."
"One we intend on fulfilling."
Arthur backed him up.
Roe turned to Lot, expecting reason, but saw none. Andrew remained the only one not pushing aggressively.
"Can you fight?" Roe asked Chris.
"Can I? I’m an emergence like you. What do you think?" Chris replied sharply.
Energy-type talent. No. 791. Pulse Field.
Roe fired pulses toward all four of them.
Lot slowed it with a time spell. It missed. freewёbn૦νeɭ.com
Perzeus and Andrew dodged.
Arthur stood still and took it.
Roe followed with an electrical charge. It did absolutely nothing.
Arthur didn’t even flinch.
He increased the output. ƒгeewёbnovel.com
Still nothing.
"Come on, what are you doing?" Lot asked.
"Let’s just head back and be done with this part."
"This part," Andrew thought.
So they knew there was another emergence.
Andrew stayed cautious.
"You’re going to regret that, Roe," Perzeus said.
Chris raised his hand.
Ice immediately spread across the ground, covering the group. Lot broke free instantly.
Arthur remained unaffected. His reflective shield was still active.
"That didn’t work," Chris said.
Then flames gathered in his hand.
"What is he doing? He’s punching the air," Lot thought.
Fireballs formed in the direction of Chris’s hand.
He’s generating them, Lot realized.
"I guess Faith really does let one use multiple talents."
"This next one will cost a lot of mana. I’ll be out after this," Chris said.
Roe nodded.
A sharp sound echoed.
"Time."
Lot’s eyes narrowed.
The others were turned into children, reverted to before awakening.
Lot exhaled. "Tricky kid."
"You think I’m less of a threat just because I’m smaller?" Little Arthur shouted. He tried to summon his staff. Nothing responded.
Light talent. No. 600.
Nothing happened.
"What’s happening? What did you—"
"I think you’re less of a threat because you’re back to before you awakened," Chris said.
Perzeus and Andrew were no better.
"Ok kid, good display. Now let’s go," Lot said.
"I can’t do that, Master," Roe replied. "We’re not taking Chris by force. It’s his decision."
"Fine. What’s your decision then, Chris?" Lot asked.
"I’ll need time. I’d like to be presented before the council or the wise men. I can’t rely on only one circle. This is too much for a single circle to handle. Especially since Merlin is barely any help," Chris said.
"Ok. That’s his answer. Let’s give him time," Roe said.
He turned to Chris. "Just don’t take too long. We’re on the clock."
Roe walked to Lot. "We’re going home."
"Wait, what?" Lot stared. "You’re not serious. Where are you going?"
"Home," Roe said simply.
"Oh. You were serious."
Lot appeared behind Chris instantly.
"Stasis," he chanted.
Chris was sealed inside an orb, frozen in time.
"What are you doing?" Roe asked.
Lot didn’t respond.
"You mean to say you were actually going to abandon this mission for what—feelings?"
"I can’t lie. You disappoint me at every turn."
"How do you hope to match Merlin at this pace?"
"I’ve never been fond of the system, kid, but if you keep this up, he’ll be more relevant than you in no time."
"Sorry, I meant he’ll be even more relevant."
"You people and your comparisons. First with Merlin, now with Zach. Just drop it," Roe said, voice rising.
"Drop the comparisons? That’s not possible. Not when you come into being around the exact same time."
"The world wants this rivalry."
Lot said.
"I wasn’t talking about that. Drop the spell, dammit."
Roe shouted as he opened fire from his staff.
It looked like it connected.
A direct hit.
-
The others just watched on as the two did battle.
Chris of course wasn’t watching. He was in a time stopped orb afterall.
Perzeus, Arthur and Andrew just watched.
There was nothing they could do. They had been stripped of their abilities by Chris.
Now Roe was fighting to protect Chris. If they were to pick a side they would still have to support Roe afterall he was helping fight for Chris’ freedom.
They need Chris free.
Cling, ding.
Arthur’s phone rang.
It was Elijah.
He’d finally been able to reach them.
"Are you going to pick up". Perzeus asked.
