Roe fell immediately he responded.
The masters were all pretty shocked. He had been dominating this whole time, to just up and fall like that. It was unexpected. It was surprising.
"It worked!" Sigman shouted.
"Now it’s just to wait and observe the results."
"Look. It’s happening," Sigman said again.
Max was getting up.
"It happened. It frickin happened. The transfer worked," Edward recounted.
"Oh, sorry about getting all excited," he said. He was clearly trying to hide the fact that he was surprised.
7 minutes earlier.
"Spirit Talent. No 1. One for One," Randolph chanted.
The spell swapped the spirits and consciousness of the user and his intended target. It requires a question and answer to be activated.
Randolph used the spell to swap out with Edward. He was now within Edward’s body, using Edward as bait.
He noticed that Roe was already cautious of him early on. He needed to get him somehow. This was how they devised the plan. One for One only works between the user and his target.
Randolph used One for Another. A different spell to swap Roe with someone unconscious. This way his mana at the very least would be depleted, making him a much easier target. They settled on Max.
7 minutes after.
"Huh. I just blacked out for a second. It seems I’m coming to," Roe noted.
"Huh. What the..." he shouted.
He noticed he was shorter.
’My mana. I can barely feel my reserves. What’s happening?’
He was confused.
He knew he couldn’t dwell on this too much or he could get easily taken out.
He summoned his staff. It didn’t respond.
He made a second attempt. There was still no response.

"I feel cold. No, my hands are cold."
He looked at his palm. Blisters caused by aggressive release of ice.
"I don’t use ice spells.
"I don’t, right?" he reiterated.
"You still haven’t noticed, have you?" Randolph shouted.
This was Edward, using Randolph’s body as his medium of communication.
Roe was clearly not following.
"Well, you see—"
Hand over mouth.
Modred told Edward to shut up. This wasn’t the time.
"Let’s take advantage of his disorientation and end this."
’I’m low on mana. Like basically empty. I can probably still do my spells. I can’t confirm it without doing anything risky.
’Using a spell right about now is probably the riskiest move I could play.
’If my spells still work...
’If this works, all I’ll lose are staffs.’
The orb disappeared.
Roe charged his mana.
"No 791," he chanted. "Pulse Field."
He fired multiple pulses.
"It’s barely powered, but don’t take chances. Dodge as many as you can. If you can dodge all," Modred ordered.
’He’s getting desperate. He’s firing them way too violently and at all cylinders. He shouldn’t be able to hold out for long. Max was depleted after all,’ Modred thought.
While he was deep in thinking, pulses made contact with Edward, Randolph, Verdona, and Zach.
"Come on guys. Focus."
"Nothing’s happened. I guess it’s less effective with mana," Edward said.
"He has lower mana right now, so I guess that tracks," Sigman said.
"Lucky you," he followed up with.
Roe fell to the ground. Face to the sky.
He was still conscious.
"I guess he’s out," Edward stated.
"Let’s wrap things up then."
They all approached him.
Ursula made her way out the pocket. Now all of them surrounded him.
Due to his orientation, they looked like giants. He was on the floor looking up.
"It’s finally over," Sigman said.
"Over? Now why would you think that? I just needed to catch my breath," Roe said.
Edward, Zach, Verdona, and Randolph all fell to the ground.
Electrocution.
’Those pulses were all still potent. He drew us in. He baited us, but how? But why?’ Modred thought.
"Oh no."
"Too late.
"No 790.
"Field of Power."
A massive pulse was felt.
This time everyone was entranced. The final act.
"I have you all present this time."
Roe stood up.
"How did you, how did you bypass Max’s mana limitations?" Roe asked.

"You didn’t consider a spell I still had active.
"After the destruction of the field containing you three, Sigman’s Mass Destructor was still present.
"I reclaimed the potential energy stored via Potential Trope. I pulled out all the stops, it’s the only reason I can still go, even right now. I’m putting my life on the line to prove a point."
"What have you been doing?"
Modred looked around.
They were down to the final three. It was just himself, Sigman, and Ursula that remained.
"Ursula, cut the bull. Let’s work together."
She turned.
"No."
Sigman didn’t think this was the time for them to get into this. He knew they needed her help. Coordinating with her could seriously change things. She was an S rank afterall.
"Still you say no?"

Modred and Ursula’s relationship goes way back. They were friends who got into an argument on the day of awakenings. Before they went in for the awakening, Modred mustured up the courage to say something he had been meaning to say for a while.
He confessed he’s love for Ursula. She thought it was a joke at first but when she realized he wasn’t joking she gave an ultimatum. She said she would respond after they both awakened.
Their ranks would essentially determine their relationship moving forward. Modred didn’t think much of it so he just agreed.
39 minutes later. A new awakener was being escorted out through a different passage. It was causing a lot of fuss. Everyone went to see. It was a new S rank mage. It was Ursula. Modred was happy. He was genuinely happy for her.
"I guess it’s my turn. "
Modred went in. He placed his hand on the orb.
