Chapter 26: Chapter 26: The test underway

It was on. The match that is.

Solomon vs Roe and Modred. Less of a versus, but that’s not what the students thought.

They were determined to win.

59.

Both ran up to Solomon.

"Now!" Roe shouted.

Modred initiated an attack. freēwebnovel.com

Solomon noticed they were trying to blind him.

"That’s not going to cut it," he said.

"Shit. I forgot my reserves aren’t what they used to be," Modred said.

The plan was solid. They just didn’t account for the fact that their mana quantities had been reduced.

Modred only summoned a small dark fog. This wasn’t enough to get the job done. What’s worse, now Solomon had a grasp of what they had in mind.

"No no," Modred shouted. He expanded the range.

It covered all three of them.

"Not enough," Solomon said.

"Let’s switch it. Let’s do your’s," Roe shouted. He instantly summoned he’s staff. He began firing in no particular direction, seemingly trying to disorient Solomon.

’I can’t see. I’m guessing Solomon can’t as well. This is going to be Modred’s field.’

Modred simultaneously fired beams as well.

"What are these boys playing at?" Solomon asked.

He noticed the attacks from the two directions. They were basically giving him their location.

’This is stupid. Which one first?’

49 seconds.

’No. They know this is stupid. They’re clearly baiting me.’

47 seconds.

One.

Two.

It’s continuous.

’The right attack. It’s perfectly timed. Too perfect,’ Solomon thought.

"Grip."

"What? He’s dragging it."

"I don’t know what you taught your students, Mr Solomon, but I have a more than solid foundation on the fundamentals."

"Hey Roe."

Modred shouted as he threw the staff in Roe’s direction.

He instantly deactivated the fog for a second.

Roe mapped out the trajectory.

The fog was back. Roe caught it.

Both of them held onto the staff. Solomon had no way of tracking them. The fog was also affecting he’s mana tracking spells.

They were absorbing their mana, siphoning it straight off the staff.

"Who needs a plan?" Roe said.

’Remote activation of a spell. That’s pretty advanced,’ Roe thought.

’He also single-handedly stole the staff. He’s good. I guess I made the right choice.’

The others were monitoring. The early pickers got to choose early. The later fellows didn’t get their luxury, but at least they were afforded the knowledge of hindsight.

10.

"Almost there," Modred said.

"Already?"

Solomon wasn’t attempting to actually find them.

He didn’t need to. They had more than proven themselves capable. The test didn’t require him to overstress or even remotely exert himself.

7 seconds.

"I’m done."

"What’s with you?" Modred asked.

"Almost there."

"Almost."

Roe said. He was lying. He wasn’t almost anywhere.

He may have been just about halfway restored.

The only advantage was that he would be better ready to go another round.

2 seconds.

"Come on Roe, what are you doing?"

"Time’s up.

Modred advances to the next round.

Roe will continue the test."

He sighed.

’I don’t get it. If our input equated to our output then why didn’t he fill up he’s reserves just as fast?

He instantly ended the fight against Team C. He’s output must have been crazy. It wasn’t even a contest. He’s definitely S rank. At least that’s what I thought.

Now I don’t even know what to think.’

Modred had no solid confirmation. Just he’s thought.

"No worry’s man. I’ll make due the next time," Roe responded.

"I’m barely just over 50 percent."

The next pair went.

They failed.

The pairs are sets of twos. There was one lone person who wasn’t paired up because they were originally 45.

Roe joined up with this person for the next rotation.

"Hi. I’m Roe. I’m guessing you just saw how miserably I failed."

"Hi, I’m Arimathea. I don’t think you just failed miserably. That was awesome. You just got paired up with the wrong partner is all."

Roe didn’t comment. There was no need.

The next pair went on. freewebnσvel.cøm

It was a wasted 60 seconds. Both didn’t make it.

Julian and he’s partner went next. Another dud.

Then John’s duo. Then Max and Zach.

"We are not going to play it safe," Zach said.

Max nodded.

"For the record, I need to know, what was all that about earlier?" Max asked.

"Well it’s just a thing we do... You see I’m C rank."

"Is that even allowed? You’re basically almost full."

"Well almost. I think we should center our strategy on you."

"Ok that’s good," Max replied. "On me."

"So what do you plan?"

"Well what are your talents?" Zach asked.

"I’m an Ice talent mage.

You?" Max asked.

He stammered at first.

"Wind talent. That’s mine."

"We’ll do what those first guys did," Zach said.

"You mean Roe and that other guy?" Max confirmed.

"Yes.

We’ll blind him with a glacier spell," Zach said.

"I don’t think that’ll work," Max followed.

"No it will."

"Well there’s the issue of mana detection. My ice doesn’t conceal mana."

"Ha. Is that all?" Zach said.

"I’ve got that covered.

I’ll create my first talent.

A little bit of this and a little bit of that."

"Huh, what was that?"
