Chapter 3: Chapter 03: The Fragment.

It was only when Mikael had decided to leave did the object of his newly found desire showed itself.

A small rock that looked completely ordinary, and the same as the materials of the structures and the throne. And like them, it also had no ’life’ in it and so, appealed no attention from the now bored Mikael.

Mikael had almost walked past it, when the inside voice called his attention and curiosity took over.

However on closer observation, he noticed that the rock and the material used to make the thrones were not the same. Even the structures on his way were different from the rock.

"So where did you come from, little one?" Mikael muttered as he picked up the rock and continued on his way back, not that he fully remembered how or even where. He just kept on walking.

And that was where his memory of the forbidden journey came to an end.

Now, looking at the fragment, Mikael had felt that he had grown closer to finding out its true potential.

He fed his essence into it once more before leaving the chambers.

His destination was once more the Forbidden Domain. A second, planned visit.

Mikael felt genuinely that something there would help him in fully grasping what that place was as well as what secrets it held.

But first, he dropped by Lady Grief’s domain seeking some form of encouragement but alas she wasn’t presently at her Chambers so he left directly for the Forbidden Domain.

As soon as he got there, his ’autopilot’ kicked in, leading him directly to the area where the throne was, preventing a great deal of wasted time! And just like the first time, Mikael sat atop the Throne, unhurried, and seemingly uncaring. Almost like he had forgotten whatever it is he came to find.

As he sat motionless, he looked far and wide to the best of his current ability. But only the same structures stared and gazed back at him, nothing was different. The jagged rocks still poked out, stubborn, here and there. He had tried to cut out the rocks during his first visit but everything here was simply indestructible, impervious and would require a tremendous amount of Celestial essence to even get a tiny piece of the rock, according to Mikael’s calculation.

And since his ’autopilot’ hadn’t kicked in to try acquiring them, he quickly forgot about doing so.

So much time passed, much more than when he had discovered the fragment, when Mikael decided to find his way back, somehow feeling that his prolonged absence may alert the other Sovereigns. Another issue was that his memories were dissipating at a rate most alarming that he only remembered the face of the Goddess!

And just as he half expected, the ’autopilot’ finally took over and by the time Mikael got full control of himself, he was standing before a massive furnace, just out there in the open, without any flame.

On the walls of the furnace, were carvings, writings, languages whose translations were lost to even the most curious Sovereign, Mikael. Despite having vast extensive knowledge and insight on reality. But nothing had made sense ever since he found this place so it didn’t bother him, not in the slightest.

But a problem soon presented itself; the sheer size and possible weight of the furnace! It was incredibly tall, leaving no doubt as to its possible weight. And so even before getting to touch it, Mikael was thinking of how to tow it away.

However he was in for a welcomed surprise as the massive structure moved with the single flick of finger, something Mikael had done as a joke. He couldn’t help but grin.

Since his celestial powers did not fully work here, he could not shrink the furnace and just walk away with it. And since he felt that the furnace would be necessary to further process the fragment in his possession was, he couldn’t bring himself to just leave it be.

And so he dragged it and sought his back, traveling a long distance with the furnace right behind him.

’ When I reach the exit I’ll think of something,’ he thought.

And when he did reach the exit, yet another surprise came into play and in his favor.

The furnace shrank! So small, it fit in his palm.

For a moment, Mikael stopped and thought about everything that had occured ever since he found this place by mistake, if it was even one.

"Feels more like something or someone’s helping me. But to what end? What’s the catch?"

But that was just about the amount of thought he gave to the situation and his curiosity took over once more.

And with the child-like excitement filled to brim in the mind of the young Sovereign, Mikael forgot to think of the possible effect of the furnace entering the Celestial Realm. Maybe because the fragment showed and caused no reaction, he subconsciously assumed the same was true with the other structures from the forsaken world, and so wrong was he.

Once he got back to his domain, he headed straight to his hidden quarters. As if reading his mind, the furnace returned into a normal sized furnace, and set itself up. Mikael brought a piece of divine fire and infused it with his essence to further increase its purity and heat.

Once the fire became hot enough, he tossed in the fragment. As for how he knew what steps to follow, the ’autopilot’ played a major role, like his inside voice. While it wasn’t as strong as it was inside the forsaken world, it still gave him tips and ideas on what to do. And it didn’t take long before the fragment’s shape began to change.

It was finally melting, reacting to something for the first time since Mikael had found it.

He also noticed that his essence expenditure was greatly reduces since the furnace seemed to refine whatever essence it received into one more potent and pure, another curious case for Mikael!

Whilst Mikael continued to dwell in the euphoria of his eureka moments, he was unaware of the storm that had arisen in response to his latest action.

In another Domain afar off, a being of intense power frowned. A Sovereign, the oldest of the seven!

The moment the furnace had entered the Celestial Realm,he felt it and the rage was immediate. But he didn’t rush to go discover who had found its location and brought it back, no.

He could not!

The Old Gods Domain, as well as objects from there were impossible to track down. It was how they were made.

Moreover, he already had a general idea as to who the culprit might possibly be.

As these thoughts settled, Sovereign’s frown melted away and he relaxed, before issuing a command.

" Send word to the Sovereign of Voids, the Lady Grief and the Holy Watcher. They should report to me immediately."

" Yes, my Lord."

" And send a message to the Goddess, requesting an audience with her."

" Very well."

Over at the hidden quarters of the Void Sovereign, Mikael was visibly elated. The fragment had almost fully melted, and thanks to the furnace he didn’t need to waste much essence as he has calculated.

However, unknown to him and most unfortunately at that, the very instant the furnace had crossed over to the Celestial Realm, an undetectable wave of energy was sent out. One perceived by the two most powerful beings in reality who knew instantly what happened. The Creation Goddess herself, and the Sovereign known to all the celestials as the Will of Heaven, Aetherion!

They couldn’t track down the immediate location of the object but they had their suspicions. The former was pained at the thought and the latter, disappointed and seemingly resolute.
