Chapter 11: Chapter 011: Reborn
He opened his eyes. A city was going up in flames. The metallic scent of blood and black smoke hung thick in the air and nearly obscured breathing! And the air was rent with heart wrenching screams and booms of explosions and roars of beasts!
’Must be Adrian’s city’, he thought. ’Oh I remembered his name.’
He felt weak. He ran a quick check on the body he now inhabited.
"Oh. No wonder I felt weak. Poor boy died from bleeding out. And....no heart? Well, better patch my new me up."
The hole shone before flesh began it covering up. "Might as well restructure this body to my taste."
He began glowing. His hair turned snow white. His eyes turned bright gold, red color on his lips.
His skin cleaned itself up too, taking on a pale white hue.
"Now, time for powers check."
"Seems I’m ranked as a Novice in the world system according to his memories," he muttered as he stretched his human limbs, getting used to them.
He flexed his wonderfully lean muscles. "But I feel like I can take on what they consider Grandmaster Ranked mortals quite comfortably."
After jumping a little and testing his physicality, he sped towards the heart of the burning city.
During the sprint, he took notice of his new strengths and weakness in his base form.
’Even my bloodlust had fallen below grace.’
One thing he noticed was that he couldn’t access his Celestial powers from the Heaven, so he could only use what was left in his soul after his transmigration to the mortal world.
Speeding past the burning gates of the city, his eyes shone as he scanned the aflame city.
’Hmm... up to seven hundred of these ’demons’. Enough to work up an appetite, no?’
He first released his bloodlust and it seemed to have worked to some extent, because the first horde of demons before him trembled visibly.
He casually picked up a sword from the rubbles and coated it with little his celestial essence.
"Let’s dance, boys and ... erh.... whatever you idiots get the gist!" he murmured with a smile. And the next instant, a few heads fell off as he sped past!
As he charged into the fray, Mikael could feel the thrill of slaying foes, an emotion he wasn’t exactly sure when it formed.
He could tell the demons were beginning to feel extreme pressure from his presence.
Minutes later the ’battlefield’ had stilled—not because the fighting was over, but because fear had taken hold.
The demons, once rabid with bloodlust and rampage now hesitated, their monstrous eyes darting nervously toward the lone figure in the center of the carnage.
Strangely, when he had seen Adrian’s memories of what they call demons, he was surprised to see that they look humanoid. Red skinned with horns puffing out their foreheads. Their physical strength were among the top of the races, rivalled only by dwarves. At least according to the mortals judgement.
What Heaven’s Library deemed demons were much more frightening to look and were truly monstrous in the true sense of combat, physical and magic power. But then these "fake" demons seemed to share ancestry with the true demons?
’I’ll check it out later when I get back to Heaven,’ Mikael muttered, taking a mental note.
’Anyways, these guys are staring too much at me I’m becoming self-conscious. Is that how they want to slay me? Interesting plan!?’
Unknown to the glorious ’fool’, they were starting to understand. Starting to fear the maniac human who wasn’t just causing a slaughter—he was reveling in it.
He was a variable they had never expected to occur in their raid. And strange enough, he was weaker than most of the humans they had killed. Or so they thought.
"Hey!"
Mikael’s voice cut through the silence like a blade of ice. He tilted his head slightly, the motion casual, almost playful. But when his eyes opened, now glowing a deep, infernal red, the remaining demons visibly recoiled. The fear in their eyes bloomed into terror as his gaze seared through the haze of war with otherworldly intensity. The aura around him was visibly dark and murderous, like that of one of their Generals!
"You guys done?" he asked softly, his lips curling into a smile that didn’t reach his eyes. "I’m just getting started."
Then, with a sound like rending silk and the screech of twisted magic, his wings unfurled—six of them, vast, shadowy, and majestic. Black as the void and veined with crimson light, they stretched wide, darkening the ruined city under their span. "This is getting boring. If you can’t attack, you all should just commit suicide or something."
The demons broke.
"Retreat!!!" one of them screamed in their native tongue.
"STOP!" Mikael’s voice thundered. He used a great deal of celestial essence and so the command became reality. But there was an unexpected reaction!
Every single demon froze mid-step. The air thickened with his killing intent—so dense, so crushing, it forced them to their knees. Their instincts screamed for them to flee, but their bodies no longer obeyed.
He stepped forward, blood dripping from the edges of his sword.
" I never said you could leave, did I now?"
His voice was a low whisper, but it somehow thundered throughout the entire city.
" No reply?"
"Forgive us, sir!!" one of them cried out.
He turned his gaze to the speaker.
A flash of movement—then silence. Its head dropped from his shoulders, hitting the ground with a dull thud. His body followed a moment later, lifeless, blood gushing out forcefully.
The resounding boom came only seconds later
He was pretty sure none of them even saw him move.
"I didn’t give you permission to speak, moron," he said coldly.
Mikael turned slowly to face the rest of them, who now trembled as though death itself stood before them. "No hard feelings," he said with a calm voice.
" But I did promise to kill every last one of you."
Then he smiled—cold, merciless, and without an ounce of humanity. ’And I am not even human! Hah!’
"But if you answer my question... you might just live. Maybe. Just maybe."
Their fear peaked.
He raised the sword, letting it glint in the dying light made by the burning houses.
"Anybody here knows how to find a big furnace?"
"Huh?"
"Eh?"
" What’s he saying?"
"Seems like I’m not making any sense to them."
The Furnace was part of his plans, and all Mikael knew was that Leviathan had left it somewhere in the mortal world prior to his sealing sway.
Finding it could help him regain enough strength till he go could full celestial again.
"Oh well...."

The head of the last demon fell as he collapsed from fatigue. There were tiny drips of red liquid at the corners of his mouth, and his ears. And his ears too!
Backlash from using Celestial essence in the Mortal Realm. The Heavens really prepared for anything.
"Damn. I got too excited and used up almost all the power I had left."
Stabbing the sword into a head beside him, Mikael sat atop a mountain of demon corpses.
"I haven’t been this tired since I fought Aetherion and the others". He was falling asleep, and it was....refreshing. Unnerving, but refreshing.

"Charge!! Save anybody still breathing!"
"Yes Ma’am!"
The Second Battalion of the Imperial Army was close to the already devastated city of Babel. Led by one of the Terrors, General Erica, the 2nd Battalion was the second most powerful battalion.
They were elites soldiers with the young and beautiful red haired General, Erica as the only Sage Rank.
Erica charged ahead of her troops, fury written all over her face.
’Those damned Khyronians... How were they able to cast an Oblivion over such a large border town, rendering their calls for aid useless and isolating them from the rest of the human realm. They must be getting ready for another war to have gathered enough resources to pull this off.’
As they drew closer to the city’s main gate—or rather, what was left of it—they slowed down. Everywhere was eerily quiet.
Corpses, torn to shreds, littered the streets. Demons, Ravagers and Humans alike. Many houses were burnt and reduced to rubble.
"Hmm... the demons are also dead?" Erica dismounted and continued on foot, her hands resting on the hilt of her sword, ready to unsheathe at the slightest show of provocation.
"Scour the area. Finish off the demons and their pets. Rescue any survivors. Do not hesitate to go all out. These guys are serious problems."
"Yes, ma’am!"
"Behemoth, with me".
" Yes ma’am!"
"...Now, where was that aura coming from?"
