Chapter 8: Chapter 8: Settling for Second Best

Although Ye Yun was willing to compromise a bit, he still felt the 100:1 price was too high. Paying that felt like getting ripped off.

The [Small Protein Converter (White)] and [Small Filter (White)] were still exclusive items; Ye Yun hadn’t seen anyone else selling them yet.

Using these two items as a draw, Ye Yun figured someone would be willing to accept the price he was offering.

As more and more people failed at crafting, he had even seen private messages from people hoping to trade 35 white components for a [Small Protein Converter (White)] and a [Small Filter (White)].

This time, his prediction finally didn’t come back to bite him.

While they weren’t snapped up instantly, one of the trade offers was accepted by another shelter’s manager in less than ten minutes.

The other two trade requests were also accepted a few minutes later.

[Damaged .32 Handgun (Green)]

[Crafting Requirements]:

[Power: 10] [10/10]

[Construction Robot: 1] [1/1]

[Basic Component Requirements]:

[Defective Steel Pipe (Green)] x3 [3/3]

[Crooked Scope (Green)] x1 [1/1]

[Rusted Trigger (White)] x1 [1/1]

[Damaged Wooden Grip (White)] x1 [1/1]

[Damaged Iron Wire (White)] x5 [5/5]

[You have obtained all basic components for this blueprint. Craft the [Damaged .32 Handgun (Green)]?]

Out of habit, Ye Yun waited a moment.

[Assessment Type: Crafting]

[Assessing crafting risk...]

[Item to be crafted: [Damaged .32 Handgun (Green)]]

[Assessment: 100% probability of obtaining a Green-grade item. Risk: 35%]

!!!!

’Whoa, holy cow.’

’The success rate for crafting the [Damaged .32 Handgun (Green)] is only 65%?’

But a moment later, a look of delight spread across Ye Yun’s face.

’If the crafting success rate for White-grade items is 75%, and Green-grade items is only 65%, then the rate for even higher-grade items must be lower still.’

Other shelter managers would probably be frustrated by the low success rate for high-grade items, but to him, it wasn’t a problem at all. In fact, it was a good thing.

The higher the failure rate, the more hesitant others would be to craft things recklessly.

’That just means the items I have will become even more valuable.’

Suppressing his excitement, Ye Yun began another attempt.

[Assessment: 100% probability of obtaining a Green-grade item. Risk: 4%]

After more than a hundred consecutive assessments, Ye Yun had bought nearly every white component available on the exchange.

However, no matter how he combined the different components, the lowest risk he could achieve was still 4%.

While 4% was a huge improvement from the initial 35%, a 4% failure rate was still unacceptable to Ye Yun.

Failing 4 times out of 100 was, in his view, still far too high.

Ye Yun looked at the crafting list again.

[Damaged .32 Handgun (Green)]

[Crafting Requirements]:

[Power: 10] [10/10]

[Construction Robot: 1] [1/1]

[Basic Component Requirements]:

[Defective Steel Pipe (Green)] x3 [3/3]

[Crooked Scope (Green)] x1 [1/1]

[Rusted Trigger (White)] x1 [1/1]

[Damaged Wooden Grip (White)] x1 [1/1]

[Damaged Iron Wire (White)] x5 [5/5]

Looking at the four green components listed at the top, an idea struck Ye Yun.

’It seems my previous line of thinking was flawed.’

’The only reason I could get the filter and protein converter to a 100% success rate using only white components was because their material requirements were low to begin with.’

’But this [Damaged .32 Handgun (Green)] requires green components by default. Trying to get it to a 100% success rate using only white components was just wishful thinking.’

Staring at the 4% risk, Ye Yun stroked his chin. It looked like he’d have to put crafting this weapon on hold for now.

There were certainly plenty of green components for sale on the exchange, but there was virtually no market for them at the moment.

After all, most people barely had any White-grade blueprints, let alone Green-grade ones.

People had no use for green components when crafting their own equipment.

This meant that if he bought green components from the exchange and couldn’t use them to increase the success rate, he’d most likely just be stuck with them.

’Eventually, as time goes on, these green components will surely become tradable on the exchange again.’

But tying up so many resources in a single green component was too much.

The increasing risks of exploration made Ye Yun eager to arm his two bionics as soon as possible.

However, the exorbitant cost quickly brought him back to his senses. freewebnøvel.coɱ

Clearly, a Green-grade crafting blueprint was beyond the current capabilities of most shelter managers.

Even with the help of his assessment system and several times more resources than anyone else, he still couldn’t guarantee success.

Having figured this out, Ye Yun felt less anxious.

’Weapons are a necessity, but I don’t have to get the best ones right away. I don’t need to jump straight to Green-grade weapons.’

’Finding a White-grade weapon to use in the meantime would be a good option too.’

Having made his decision, Ye Yun didn’t hesitate. He immediately opened the public chat room.

Ye Yun:

[Looking to buy a White-grade weapon blueprint. If you have one, add me as a friend and send the item details directly.]

[Also, if you don’t have a relevant item, don’t waste my time with random messages. I will block you.]

Seeing his message, the public chat room instantly erupted.

"My god, that pro is already crafting weapons?"

"Master Ye, please craft some more filters! I’ve already failed three times, have some pity on me!"

"A weapon blueprint? Who would be willing to part with a treasure like that?"

"How can the gap between people be this huge? I’m still scrounging up components for a filter, and that pro is already moving on to weapons?"

"I don’t have a weapon blueprint, but I got three melee weapons yesterday. Sent you a friend request!"

....

Thanks to his warning, far fewer people sent him friend requests this time.

Ye Yun quickly found the message from the person who said they had melee weapons.
