Chapter 71: Chapter 70: Dark Skeleton

’Okay, its Defense Power is fine, but what about its Attack Power?’

According to the system’s Introduction, this thing’s Defense Power and Attack Power were both impressive. He wondered just how high its Attack Power could go.

Li Ziyu ordered the Skeleton Ox Demon to attack a High Level Skeleton Warrior, which raised its Round Shield and took a defensive stance.

The Skeleton Ox Demon, which had been kneeling, stood up. After a moment of silence, it lifted its Skeleton Totem Pole and, gripping it with one hand, swung it like a baseball bat.

THUD—WHOOSH—

The white figure went flying, crashing to the ground in the distance and scattering into a pile of bones. It then quickly reassembled itself back into the form of a High Level Skeleton Warrior.

’Holy crap. One hit. Just one hit, and with a single hand!’

When the High Level Skeleton Warrior returned, Li Ziyu inspected its Shield. It was covered in cracks, on the verge of shattering completely.

And that was with the Skeleton Ox Demon not even taking it seriously. Who knew what would have happened if it had wielded the Skeleton Totem Pole with both hands.

’That’s enough. There’s no need to test it any further.’

Without a doubt, the Skeleton Ox Demon was the strongest combat unit Li Ziyu had—his trump card at this stage.

After witnessing the Skeleton Ox Demon’s combat prowess, Li Ziyu couldn’t help but feel a pang of regret. ’Tsk, if I’d known, I wouldn’t have created so many Skeleton Warriors. Wouldn’t it have been better to create more Skeleton Ox Demons sooner?’

He had used almost all the Soul Energy gained from killing goblins to create Skeleton Warriors, leaving his current supply of Soul Energy stretched thin.

’Forget it. Even if I’m short, I have to make a few more. These things are a guarantee of safety, harvesters on the battlefield!’

’Nine more. I’ll make a group of ten Skeleton Ox Demons first and figure out the rest later.’

In no time, ten Skeleton Ox Demons stood side by side like a solid wall. The murderous aura they exuded was so thick it was almost tangible. The Minotaurs of the Tabu Tribe kept their distance, shrinking to the side and trembling.

Li Ziyu didn’t want the Skeleton Ox Demons to disrupt the Minotaurs’ daily lives, so he ordered them to the fortress to avoid frightening anyone.

The Ox Demons strode into the fortress with heavy steps, leaned their bodies against a wall, and merged into it. It was as if ten new reliefs had been carved into the wall’s surface.

Only after the Ox Demons had merged into the wall and their astonishing murderous aura had dissipated did the Minotaurs of the Tabu Tribe slowly return to normal. They shakily got to their feet. When the Ox Demons were present, they had felt as if their very blood was about to freeze—a feeling more terrifying than facing a hundred Demonized Minotaurs.

Even with the Ox Demons gone, they didn’t dare approach the Alien Tomb, choosing instead to watch from afar. The recent experience had left them shaken.

’Man, that scared the soul right out of them.’

After pondering for a long time, Li Ziyu decided to take a gamble. He was simply too curious about the Dark Skeleton. He just had to see one. ’Just one. I’ll just summon one!’

Faced with such a novel type of soldier, Li Ziyu felt an itch of curiosity he couldn’t scratch. He just had to know what kind of unit cost 500 units of Soul Energy, and what abilities it possessed.

He slowly extended his hand toward the Alien Tomb, striking an overly dramatic pose. "Summon: Dark Skeleton!"

Silence.

After a short wait, the Minotaurs looked at each other, all of them completely bewildered. They didn’t understand what the Master of the Undead was doing, just holding his hand out toward the large cavern from which the Ox Demons had emerged.

’Is he summoning new Ox Demons?’

’Is he casting some kind of Magic?’

’Or is this some kind of ritual?’

After another moment, there was still no movement. Even Liu Xingxing could feel the awkwardness in the air. He couldn’t help but lean in and ask in a low voice, "Boss, what are you doing?"

In truth, Li Ziyu was just as embarrassed. ’Dammit, where’s my Dark Skeleton?’

’The Skeleton Ox Demon made such a huge entrance. How come there’s absolutely nothing for the Dark Skeleton? Don’t tell me the summoning failed?’

’That can’t be right. Since when does the system’s summoning have a success rate? I don’t believe it!’

Li Ziyu slowly lowered his hand and cleared his throat. "Ahem, it’s nothing. I was just..."

He didn’t finish his sentence. He froze, his eyes widening as he stared at a patch of shadow on the ground.

Hearing Li Ziyu trail off, Liu Xingxing followed his gaze in confusion, and he too was stunned.

There was an extra patch!

The shadow of the Alien Tomb was bizarrely larger by one patch.

Thinking of all the ghost stories from his past life and connecting them to the current scene, Liu Xingxing subconsciously took a step back, a look of panic on his face.

"What are you panicking for? I’m the Undead City Lord!" Li Ziyu shot him an exasperated look.

"Oh, right." Liu Xingxing came to his senses. ’What the hell am I afraid of? The Undead City Lord is right beside me. This entire fortress is filled to the brim with Undead. What ghosts or monsters? I live with the Undead every single day.’

Li Ziyu stared at the extra patch of shadow, clenched his fists, and lowered his eyelids, a hint of anger brewing within him.

He was now certain that this shadow, which he hadn’t noticed before, was most likely related to the Dark Skeleton. ’This thing actually made me look like a fool in public. Does it have a death wish?’

As if sensing Li Ziyu’s fury, the patch of shadow writhed, and an ashen-gray Skeleton emerged from within it. As soon as it appeared, the shadow on the ground rapidly contracted, as if it were being absorbed by the Skeleton itself.

At first glance, there was nothing remarkable about this Skeleton. In fact, due to the color of its bones, it looked a bit like a malnourished Skeleton Undead.

But upon closer inspection, the differences became apparent. A black sheen would flash across its bones from time to time, and it was faintly shrouded in a mist-like layer of Dark Energy. The most crucial part was its Soul Fire.

This thing’s Soul Fire wasn’t the usual spectral blue. It was black—a deep, profound black!

If one weren’t paying close attention, they might not even notice it was there. It was like a lifeless object, seemingly unconnected to the Undead.

Sensing the Dark Skeleton’s Soul Fire, Li Ziyu’s body trembled slightly. ’This thing isn’t normal. It’s dangerous!’

When sensing the Soul Fire of other Undead, Li Ziyu felt a sense of familiarity, even with the Ox Demons. But facing this creature, he didn’t feel familiarity at all. Instead, he felt a chilling cold and a deathly stillness!

He was the Undead City Lord! How could an Undead he himself summoned make him feel cold and still? ’That can’t be normal, can it?’

’I think I’ve done something stupid.’

Li Ziyu’s mouth twitched. The most crucial thing now was to see if he could even control this Dark Skeleton.

He took a deep breath, forced himself to feel anger, and projected that emotion outward, pressing down on the Dark Skeleton.

Faced with the City Lord’s wrath, the Dark Skeleton hesitated for a moment, then slowly knelt, choosing to submit.

Phew—

Li Ziyu let out a silent breath of relief. ’Thank goodness. I can control it. No wonder even the system said this thing was dangerous.’

Facing such a bizarre Undead, Li Ziyu didn’t dare to be complacent. He reached out, placed his hand on its head, and forcibly sensed its Soul Fire.

Besides the system’s Introduction, he could also learn about an Undead’s status by sensing its Soul Fire directly.

Closing his eyes to sense the Dark Skeleton’s Soul Fire, Li Ziyu felt as if his body was freezing over, but he also came to understand what this creature was all about.

’It really is a freak of nature. This thing is a fucking King of Darkness!’

In the dark of night, the Dark Skeleton would become immensely powerful. Despite its ashen-gray bones, both its Defense Power and its Power were completely on par with an Ox Demon. It also possessed the abilities of Shadow Transformation, Instant Enhancement, and Merging into the Night—powers granted to it by its Dark Rune. freewebnσvel.cøm

It was truly strong, not flinching in the slightest against an Ox Demon and even capable of running circles around one. Its combat power was off the charts. But this thing was a problem child—rebellious and defiant, submitting to no one. The only one who could temporarily suppress it was him, the City Lord.

If he were to put this creature on a battlefield without his direct suppression, there was a ninety percent chance it would just go wild, killing everyone indiscriminately, friend or foe.

’What the actual hell.’
