Chapter 136: Chapter 108: Raid on the Camp

After several days of forced marching, both the Headhunter Race and the goblins were completely exhausted. Now that they had stopped to rest and regroup, they were eager for a proper break and a hot meal.

As their leader, Panok had said the Undead would not appear before sunset. Because of this, the Alliance Army wasn’t the least bit worried. They were so exhausted they didn’t even post sentries, simply gathering in a massive, disorderly crowd, noisily lighting fires to cook their meals.

"Do you know how to kill the Undead?"

"No idea. You do?"

"I asked around. They say if you want to kill an Undead, you have to destroy its Spirit Body."

...

Two Headhunter Clan People who had left the camp to relieve themselves were chatting idly. One of them shivered, pulled up his pants, and was about to speak when he happened to look up and froze.

"You think the Undead would show up at a time like this?"

"Haha, what are you talking about? The leader said the Undead only appear at night. The sun hasn’t even set yet."

"Then what do you call that?"

Noticing the strange tone in his companion’s voice, the other Headhunter frowned and looked over. His eyes shot wide open. Not far from them, a group of Skeletons stood silently, blue flames burning within their skulls. When it saw them looking, the lead Skeleton even tilted its head.

Undead!

The Headhunter sucked in a sharp breath. He shoved his companion hard, pushing him toward the Undead, then turned and fled.

His companion staggered forward a couple of steps and glanced back in shock, only seeing the other Headhunter’s panicked, retreating figure. When he turned back, he was face-to-face with a skull. A sharp pain shot through his chest as a Bone Saber was plunged in up to its hilt.

The fleeing Headhunter didn’t get away, either. He had only taken a few steps before a whistling arrow shot out and pinned him to the ground.

The last thing he saw was a volley of arrows falling toward the Alliance Camp...

WHOOSH—

A hundred or so arrows fell into the camp, a scattered volley that hardly seemed to matter. The members of the Alliance Army, busy lighting fires and cooking, were momentarily confused. It was only when the second wave of White Bone Long Arrows rained down that they finally reacted.

"Enemy attack!"

The Headhunter Clan People kicked over their pots and bowls, grabbed their Weapons, and scrambled for cover from the arrows. The goblins, on the other hand, descended into chaos, shrieking and running about frantically.

A High Level Skeleton Warrior raised the Bone Saber in its hand and swung it down forcefully toward the camp. Behind it, the Skeleton Undead began to march, launching their attack on the Alliance Camp.

"Leader! Undead! The Undead are attacking!"

"Bullshit! The sun is still in the sky. How can there be Undead?"

"It’s true!"

Panok was furious as he stared at his clan member, but the sound of panicked shouting reached his ears. Whether it was the Undead or not, something had clearly gone wrong outside. He dared not delay. Grabbing a thick Bone Rod, he led the messenger out of the tent.

It was chaos outside. The surprise attack had rendered the goblins useless. Most of them were just running around in panic, though a few had taken up their Weapons and were fighting the Undead alongside the Headhunter Clan People.

SPLURT!

A scream rang out. Blood splattered onto Panok’s leg as he stepped out of the tent. A goblin, its throat slit, collapsed to the ground, dead. The Skeleton Undead that had killed it turned its attention to Panok, gripping its Bone Saber as it stepped forward.

Panok’s gaze hardened. He swung the Bone Rod in his hand with lightning speed. Before the Undead could react, the rod connected with its skull, sending the top of its cranium flying.

Wisps of Soul Fire rose and scattered into the air.

As the Soul Fire was extinguished, the Undead collapsed into a pile of scattered bones on the ground.

Paying no mind to the dispatched Undead, Panok scanned his surroundings. He saw that countless Undead had already invaded the camp, and arrows were still raining down from above.

He looked up at the sun and couldn’t help but curse inwardly. ’Damn it, the sun is still out! Why are the Undead here?’

But there was no time to dwell on it. He had to rally his forces and counterattack. The Headhunter Clan People were manageable, but the main problem was the goblins. The little runts were in a total panic, running all over the place. They weren’t just useless; they were actively getting in the way.

"Sound the horn!"

Gritting his teeth, Panok shoved a Beast Horn Trumpet into his clan member’s arms. He hefted his Bone Rod and strode forward. Any Undead that dared to block his path had its skull smashed, its Soul Fire dissipating into the air.

DOOT, DOO-DOOT—

The deep, mournful sound of the horn rang out. Hearing the call, the Headhunter Clan People instantly found their backbone. They broke through the Undead’s blockade and began to rally toward the sound. Some of the clansmen spotted Panok and instinctively drew near, joining him in the fight.

A goblin, running for its life, sprinted toward Panok with a Skeleton Undead in hot pursuit. The goblin planned to divert the disaster, leading the Skeleton Undead to Panok so it could make its own escape.

To the goblin’s surprise, Panok ignored the Undead and instead slapped it hard across the face. The blow sent the goblin spinning twice on the spot, dazed and seeing stars. A moment later, it felt its body being lifted into the air.

Panok tightened his grip on his Bone Rod with one hand and hoisted the goblin with the other, using it as a shield against the approaching Skeleton Undead. The Bone Saber plunged into the goblin’s body, eliciting a piercing scream. At that exact moment, Panok’s Bone Rod swung in from the side and shattered the Undead’s skull.

Looking around, Panok saw that more and more Undead had noticed him and were now converging on his position.

"Fall back! Group up! Prepare for a breakout!" Panok yelled, leading the clan members around him in a retreat to regroup with the others.
