Chapter 128: Chapter 105: Going to the Forbidden Land Again
The Clan Leader gazed at the girl and sighed. He knew the two sisters depended on each other for survival and shared a deep bond, but he couldn’t help or dissuade her. The Catmen all made their own choices, and they were responsible for them.
After bidding farewell to the Clan Leader, Meng Ni went home and found a Stone Saber. It was her only Weapon. Tucking the Stone Saber at her waist, she set off without a second thought on the path to the forbidden lands, searching for her sister.
...
"Let go of me, you big, dumb bull!" Mengmeng kicked and squirmed in midair, twisting her head to try and bite the Minotaur’s arm. But she failed every time, leaving her screaming in frustration.
That’s right. She’d been captured again, in the exact same way as last time.
Seeing how unruly she was, the Minotaur holding Mengmeng rapped her on the head. He didn’t use much force, but it was enough to make Mengmeng see stars and lose the strength to struggle. Her limbs went limp as she was carried before Mumu and Tas Tuling, who were in the middle of combat training.
"Hey, Clan Leader, look what I caught!" the Minotaur greeted Mumu with a goofy grin, holding up Mengmeng and giving her a little shake as if she were a cat treat.
"A Catman?" Mumu paused his training and wiped the sweat from his brow. He walked over for a closer look. "Is that the one from last time?" he asked, puzzled.
"I think so? I can’t tell them apart." To the Minotaur, all Catmen looked more or less the same. You couldn’t call it face-blindness—it was just a matter of different Races.
"Tas Tuling, get over here! We caught another Catman. Come see if it’s the one from last time!" Mumu couldn’t tell them apart either, so he had to call for backup.
The lightning-wreathed Totem Pole came to a whistling halt in midair. Tas Tuling let out a long breath, recalled the Totem Pole, then turned to look before walking over.
He squatted down to take a look, then nodded to Mumu. "Yep, it’s the same Little Cat Girl from last time. How’d she get caught again?"
The Minotaur holding Mengmeng chuckled. "I saw her running over in a hurry, so I grabbed her."
"She was coming straight for us?" Tas Tuling asked, looking up in surprise.
"Yup, she was heading right for us," the Minotaur said grimly. "Tas Tuling, do you think she was planning to attack us?"
"Any other Catmen with her?" Tas Tuling didn’t answer the Minotaur, asking a question of his own.
"Didn’t see any." The Minotaur thought for a moment before shaking his head.
"A little Catman this small wouldn’t run over to attack us all by herself, right? I think she might have come looking for us on purpose," Tas Tuling mused, poking Mengmeng. "Why is she being so quiet?" he added, confused.
"Oh, I gave her a little knock," the Minotaur said sheepishly.
Tas Tuling looked up, speechless, and shot the Minotaur an irritated glare.
’You call that a knock? Take a look at that fist of yours—it’s bigger than her whole head! Do you think she’s a child from the Tabu Tribe you can just bonk on the noggin and have them walk away fine? This is a Little Catman! A "knock" from you is no different from a devastating blow.’
"You two watch her. I’m going to get someone," Tas Tuling said, getting to his feet. He gave the instruction to Mumu and the Minotaur, then hurried away.
He couldn’t handle this situation himself. The fact that the Little Catman had run straight toward them felt wrong to Tas Tuling. He had to find Zhang Peng and Liu Xingxing and leave it to them.
Soon, he returned with Zhang Peng and Liu Xingxing.
Liu Xingxing stepped forward to examine her. "How did she end up unconscious?" he asked.
The Minotaur scratched his head. "I gave her a little knock on the head," he said awkwardly, "and this happened."
Liu Xingxing glanced at the Minotaur’s fist, and the corner of his mouth twitched. He looked over at Zhang Peng, his eyes asking, ’What now?’
Zhang Peng shot Liu Xingxing a glance with eyes that looked as listless as if he’d just pulled several all-nighters at a gaming cafe. He then ordered the Minotaur to fetch some cold water and splash it directly onto the Little Catman’s face.
"Aah—"
The effect was instantaneous. Mengmeng let out a sharp cry and shot to her feet, frantically shaking her head and sending water droplets flying everywhere.
Though she had a humanoid form, her dislike of being wet was just like that of an ordinary cat.
"Okay, okay, stop shaking!" Liu Xingxing said, shielding his face from the spray. He turned to Mengmeng. "Didn’t we let you go last time? Why did you come back?"
Mengmeng swatted the water from her ears and surveyed her surroundings, her eyes flashing with purpose. "I need to see the Master of the Undead," she declared. "I have important information for him."
The water had turned the dust on her face to mud, leaving her little face streaked with grime. But that didn’t stop Liu Xingxing from teasing her. "What important information could you possibly have?" he said with a grin. "Stop messing around and hurry on home."
Zhang Peng, however, stepped forward and pushed Liu Xingxing aside. He squatted down, looking the Little Cat Girl directly in the eyes. "Tell me," he said. "What do you know?"
"Hey, hey, hey, Zhang Peng! She’s just a kid. What could she possibly know?" Liu Xingxing protested, annoyed.
Zhang Peng turned to him and said irritably, "This is the Otherworld, and she’s one of the Natives. We’re not all-knowing gods here. Don’t forget, she was the one who warned us about the Alliance Army. Kids don’t tell lies."
"Er... You make a good point. I can’t even argue with that." Liu Xingxing was completely shut down.
"I just think you’re a brainless idiot," Zhang Peng added seamlessly, his eyelids drooping.
"Holy hell! Were you a rapper before you came here or something?" Liu Xingxing yelped, stamping his foot.
"Or a fast-talking comedian," Zhang Peng retorted mercilessly, rolling his eyes at Liu Xingxing’s outburst.
Done with Liu Xingxing’s antics, Zhang Peng turned his attention back to the Little Cat Girl, waiting for her answer.
