Chapter 126: Chapter 104: The Entire Clan Takes Refuge (3)
The two sisters scrambled out of the burrow and ran all the way to their Clan Leader.
In no time, the Tribe was thrown into chaos. All the Catmen were roused from their sleep and warned of a potential Undead attack.
The Catmen, still groggy with sleep, were baffled. ’Everything was fine. How could the Undead be at our doorstep all of a sudden?’
The Clan Leader was, after all, more experienced than the two sisters. Knowing there was no time to waste, he offered no lengthy explanations. Instead, he immediately organized the Catmen to evacuate the Tribe. They would hide out in the open and only return once they were certain it was safe.
The Catmen had little to pack. Grabbing what food they could, they fled the Tribe under the cover of night.
The moon set and rose again. A day passed in the blink of an eye.
The Catmen of the Dora the Cat Tribe spent a day wandering the Wasteland in constant fear. Every so often, they would creep back toward their home, observing from a distance to see if there was any activity.
"Clan Leader, it’s been a whole day, and there’s no sign of anything. Did Mengmeng lie to us?"
"That’s right! We can’t just stay out here and never go back, can we?"
"Undead? What Undead? Forget the Undead, I haven’t even seen a single bone!"
After sunset, the hungry and exhausted Catmen finally snapped. They all turned on Mengmeng, demanding to return home.
The Dora the Cat Clan Leader frowned, glancing from the timid Mengmeng to his people. He gritted his teeth. "No, we can’t go back. What if the Undead are lying in ambush? If we return now, we’d be walking right into a trap. We’ll wait one more day. If the Undead still haven’t appeared by then, we’ll go back."
Seeing their Clan Leader’s anger, the other Catmen fell silent. But the looks they shot at Mengmeng and her sister were anything but kind. ’This is all their fault. If it weren’t for them, we wouldn’t be out here in the Wasteland, cold and starving.’
...
「In the Undead Fortress.」
The Skeleton Architecture continued to rise as usual.
Li Ziyu had no idea that his single meeting with the Little Cat Girl had caused her entire Tribe to flee for their lives. If he had known, he probably would have had one thought... ’I’m such a goddamn good person!’
Just after dinner, Zhang Peng came to find him.
"So, any news?" Sated from his meal, Li Ziyu asked lazily as he sprawled on the White Bone Throne.
"Yes. It’s just as the Little Catman said. An Alliance Army is coming to deal with us," Zhang Peng said seriously. He had spent the day using his own channels to confirm the intelligence.
Li Ziyu raised an eyebrow. He wasn’t worried about whether the Alliance Army was coming or not. With the Wraith Mountain Range at his back, he had nothing to fear. At worst, he’d just throw waves of Skeleton Undead at them. However many came, that’s how many would die. He refused to believe the Alliance Army could possibly number over ten million.
What he was focused on was the word Zhang Peng had used: "we." It meant that subconsciously, Zhang Peng already considered them a single unit. This was excellent—exactly what Li Ziyu had hoped to see.
"What else?" Li Ziyu asked. ’He can’t have spent all day just confirming the Alliance Army’s existence. He’d be pretty useless if that were the case.’
"The Alliance Army has already assembled, and an advance force has set out. It’s a contingent of goblins and the Headhunter Race, several thousand strong," Zhang Peng reported immediately.
Li Ziyu could only scoff at the news.
’Who are they looking down on? They think they can kill me with just a few thousand troops?’
’Tsk, tsk. They really underestimate me.’
Li Ziyu conveniently ignored the fact that without the Wraith Mountain Range, those few thousand troops would have been enough to kill him twice over.
"Let them come. It’s good that they are. I happen to be short on resources." A smile played on Li Ziyu’s lips, but his words were chilling. "Find out when they’re due to arrive. We must give them a proper welcome. We wouldn’t want our guests from afar to feel we’ve been neglectful."
"Understood, Boss. I’ll stay on it." Zhang Peng nodded, offered a slight bow, and turned to leave.
Once he was gone, Li Ziyu stood up and walked to the window. He gazed out at the Wraith Mountain Range, where his Skeleton Undead were still bustling about. He then glanced at his system interface; the sight of his ever-increasing resources brought a smile to his face.
