Chapter 125: Chapter 104: The Entire Tribe Seeks Refuge (Part 2)
A faint glow emanated from a small stone. Its light was limited, but it was enough for Mengmeng to see the figure nearby.
"Mengmeng? Where did you run off to? You worried me sick!" A warm body hugged the Little Cat Girl tightly, burying her face in a soft chest as a few tears fell onto Mengmeng’s face.
"Sis-sister, I’m suffocating," Mengmeng said with a struggle, which made her sister, Meng Ni, quickly let go.
Mengmeng used the glow from the small stone to look at her sister. It seemed her sister’s chest had gotten even bigger than before. She then looked down at herself and let out a breath.
’Yep, very satisfied. Still nice and flat.’
’What’s so good about a chest that big, anyway? So heavy and tiresome. Flat is much better; it doesn’t weigh you down when you run.’
"Tell me, where did you run off to this time? I looked everywhere around here for you," Meng Ni demanded in a harsh tone, pinching her sister’s cheek.
"Ow, that hurts! Sister, let go! Look, see what I brought back for you!" The Little Cat Girl Mengmeng’s cheek was like a ball of sticky rice dough, a large portion of it pinched between Meng Ni’s fingers. To escape her sister’s clutches, she quickly held up the meat in her hand.
"Hmm?" Meng Ni sniffed, suddenly stunned. She let go of her sister’s cheek. "Meat? Where did you get this?"
’Hunting? That’s impossible. Forget a little one like Mengmeng—even the Tribe’s hunting party often comes back empty-handed.’
’Their Weapons are too crude, and they don’t have enough people. Hunting large prey is simply impossible. And Meng Ni could tell, this wasn’t meat from some rabbit or fox. It was beef, something Mengmeng could never get on her own.’
"Hehe, someone gave it to me. Here’s some that’s already cooked—it’s delicious! Sister, hurry and eat." Mengmeng grinned, holding the piece of roasted meat she had saved up to Meng Ni’s mouth. But unexpectedly, her sister pinched her cheek again.
"Who gave it to you? We can’t go around stealing other people’s meat!" Meng Ni snapped.
’She refused to believe anyone would be kind enough to give them meat. That left only one possibility: Mengmeng had stolen food from their own Tribe or from another.’
’Even though the two sisters often went hungry, they couldn’t resort to stealing. It wasn’t a matter of conscience or morals, but because it would inevitably lead to trouble.’
’As a weak Tribe, they had their own rule for survival: never offend anyone powerful, and just struggle to stay alive.’
"It wasn’t stolen! I really didn’t steal it! It was a gift—an Undead gave it to me!" Mengmeng cried out, her face aching from the pinch.
"So you’ve learned to lie to me now, huh? An Undead gave it to you? Why not just say a goblin gave it to you!" Meng Ni was so infuriated by this that she almost laughed, and she pinched her sister’s cheek even harder.
’The Undead... they’re a legendary Race! Who knows if they even exist, but even if they did, it’d be a blessing if they didn’t kill Mengmeng on sight. And they’d give her meat? That’s just impossible!’
"Mmph, I’m not lying! Really! The Undead are just on the other side of the mountain!" Mengmeng said frantically, tears welling in her eyes from the pain.
Meng Ni’s hand fell away. She stared blankly at her foolish little sister.
’The other side of the mountain... isn’t that the forbidden land?’
"How could you go over the mountain? Do you have a death wish?! There’s a Curse there! The Ancestor forbids us to go near it! Do you feel anything wrong? Are you hurt?" Forgetting her anger, Meng Ni began checking her sister from head to toe, terrified that something had happened to her.
"I’m fine, I’m fine! Don’t worry, Sister, I’m perfectly okay," Mengmeng said, pushing her sister’s hands aside.
"What happened? Tell me everything, in detail," Meng Ni demanded grimly, holding her sister’s shoulders.
"I followed someone from the Headhunter Race over there, and I saw the Undead, and I even met the Master of the Undead..."
Mengmeng held nothing back, explaining how she’d spotted the skulking member of the Headhunter Race, how she’d followed them, discovered the Undead, gotten captured, and met Li Ziyu. As she listened, Meng Ni’s heart skipped a beat.
’The Headhunter Race and the even more terrifying Undead... both were deadly. And her little sister had just foolishly blundered right into them? And even let herself get caught?’
’The only reason she’s not dead is because the spirits of our parents were protecting her. No, it must have been the Ancestor Spirit. This is beyond what our parents’ spirits could handle.’
When her sister finished her story, Meng Ni felt that something was still wrong. She thought for a moment, then her expression suddenly changed. She asked in a low voice, "Mengmeng, you just came straight back? Did the Undead follow you?"
Mengmeng froze. She was still too young and hadn’t considered every angle; she’d only been thinking about getting home quickly, not whether someone was following her. Recalling the Undead that had turned into a black shadow, one that was even faster than she was, her face instantly paled. She stammered, "They probably... didn’t... right?"
Hearing her sister’s uncertain response, Meng Ni felt her blood run cold.
’The Undead... these were the Undead! Why would they just casually give someone meat? It must have been to lower my sister’s guard, to follow her right back to the Tribe!’
’What were they going to do?!’
Meng Ni clenched her fists. ’No, we can’t just sit here and do nothing. Even if it’s the Undead, we have to put up a fight.’ "Mengmeng, let’s go. We’re going to see the Clan Leader. We have to tell him about this."
"Sister, I don’t want to go. The Clan Leader will hit me," Mengmeng said with a pitiful, pained expression.
"You’re worried about getting hit? You, who was brave enough to go into the forbidden land! We have to tell the Clan Leader. The Undead might already know where we are! You’ve caused huge trouble this time." Meng Ni took a deep breath, gave her sister another hard pinch, and spoke angrily.
