Chapter 111: Chapter 99: Signing Another Contract
"Let me reintroduce myself. I’m Liu Xingxing. That fortress is mine. I’m in charge of finding resource points for the boss."
Liu Xingxing, as energetic as ever, was the first to run over. He pointed to the Treasure-Hunting Catman Mobile Fortress not far away, introduced himself, and then looked at Zhang Peng expectantly.
Zhang Peng ruffled his messy, dusty hair, sending up a puff of dust. The heavy, dark circles and half-open eyes made him look drained, as if he hadn’t woken up properly.
"We should have been in contact before. Your online handle is Treasure Hunting Star, right? I just joined, so I don’t know what I’ll be in charge of yet. Um, I hope I can continue with commerce." As he spoke, Zhang Peng glanced at Li Ziyu, feeling a little apprehensive.
"Come on, I’ll take you up for a look." Liu Xingxing didn’t overthink it. To him, since Li Ziyu had introduced them, it must mean a contract was signed and Zhang Peng was one of them now.
"C-Can I?" Zhang Peng directed this question at Liu Xingxing, but his gaze fell upon Li Ziyu. The one in charge wasn’t Liu Xingxing, but Li Ziyu, and he wanted to know Li Ziyu’s stance.
’This is crucial; it will determine the quality of my future life. If they still treat me as an outsider, I’ll have to think of other options. Escaping would be for the best, if possible.’
Li Ziyu didn’t say anything, just shrugged to show they could do as they pleased. Liu Xingxing then led Zhang Peng back to the Undead Main Tower, up the stairs, all the way to the platform at the very top.
From the platform, you could see far into the distance. You could see minecarts shuttling back and forth in the caves, constantly transporting Corpse Remains. You could see large trees toppling on the mountain and the Skeleton Undead felling them.
Leaning against the battlements, Zhang Peng’s eyes went wide. He finally understood why the Undead were developing so quickly. With this kind of resource-gathering speed, it would be a cosmic injustice if they weren’t fast.
"So? Not bad, right? Let me tell you, just stick with the boss and you’ll live the good life. The boss isn’t a cold and heartless person." Liu Xingxing turned to Zhang Peng, a sunny smile on his face, revealing a row of snow-white teeth.
He now had absolutely no desire to leave. He just wanted to latch onto a powerhouse like Li Ziyu and loyally follow his lead. With no worries about food, drink, or safety, what could be better for a City Lord like him who wasn’t skilled in combat?
He had talked to Zhang Peng before and knew that, like himself, the race under his command wasn’t good at fighting. In this Otherworld, they were all just drifting without support. It was far better to rally under Li Ziyu, huddling together for warmth, and use their own talents to make their patron even more powerful.
Zhang Peng stared at the Undead on the mountain for a long moment before turning to look at Liu Xingxing seriously. "Li Ziyu really won’t make us fight? He won’t use us as cannon fodder? He’ll protect us?"
Liu Xingxing still had that sunny smile on his face as he nodded vigorously. "Of course! Let me tell you, not long after I was transported here, I dug the boss’s fortress out of the ground. I’ve been with him ever since. Look, aren’t I doing great now?"
D-Dug it out?
’What kind of insane plot twist is this?’
Zhang Peng forced a smile and looked back at the busy Undead on the mountain.
The sound of footsteps came from behind them. Both turned to see Li Ziyu slowly walking up. "Zhang Peng, have your Mobile Fortress move closer. I need to unload the corpses."
"Ah? Oh, right." Zhang Peng paused for a second, then remembered that the bodies of the Headhunter Race were still piled up inside his Mobile Fortress. He quickly sent a message to his Gophers, telling them to bring the fortress over.
The train-like fortress was towed into place, docking with the Undead Fortress. Down below, the Minotaurs who hadn’t gone to sleep yet immediately gathered to watch the spectacle, pointing and commenting. Some children ran over, laughing, wanting to go inside for a look, but they were pulled back by their parents and given a few sharp smacks, which made them behave.
Once the Mobile Fortress came to a complete stop and connected with the Bone Plate Platform, the Skeleton Undead slowly walked to its main gate. After the Gophers inside pulled the gate open, they immediately scrambled far away, staring at the Undead with terrified eyes.
The Undead paid no attention to the Gophers. They walked inside, picked up the corpses one by one, and carried them toward the Undead Main Tower.
