Chapter 125: Chapter 103: Everything Is Ready, Lacking Only the East Wind
Ziggy left in a great hurry!
After getting Su Chen’s assurance, he gave Ji Wan a quick instruction and sped off in his car toward Dongwu Banner.
"Looks like he’s really taking this seriously!" Su Chen said, watching the departing pickup truck with a faint smile.
In truth, he could understand Ziggy’s feelings. A stable sales channel would be a joyous occasion for the herders of Dongwu Banner. Now that such an opportunity had appeared, one that would free the herders from the worry of being unable to sell their sheep, it was only natural for their leader, Ziggy, to be excited.
A gust of cold wind blew past, and Su Chen couldn’t help but shiver.
Although it hadn’t started snowing in Inner Mongolia yet, the temperature was genuinely cold. With nothing but endless grasslands, there was no shelter from the wind.
Back in the yurt, Su Chen thought about the next steps. Realizing they weren’t his forte, he promptly pulled out his phone and called Pei Rang.
The call connected after just two rings.
"Good morning, Boss!"
"Yeah, Old Pei. I need you to immediately arrange for a team to fly out to Xilinhot. I’m preparing to open a livestock company here. You can pick the management team directly from our staff," Su Chen said, getting straight to the point.
As Yunmengze Capital had grown rapidly, the company had recruited a number of top talents. These recruits were primarily brought on to prepare for various investments, capable of providing high-quality strategic plans for new projects on short notice.
"Xilinhot? Got it, Boss. I’ll get on it right away. The team can be there by tonight at the earliest!" Though Pei Rang was a little confused, he knew that an order from the boss had to be carried out immediately.
"Alright. Just have them call me directly when they arrive." After saying this, Su Chen was about to hang up.
"Wait... Boss, do you need me to lead the team personally?"
Su Chen paused his hand, which was about to hang up. In an exasperated tone, he said, "You’re the CEO. What would it look like for you to be running all over the place? Just assign a senior executive to lead the team!"
And with that, he hung up.
Meanwhile, far away in Shanghai, Pei Rang stared at the disconnected call, pursing his lips and muttering, "He tells me not to run all over the place? Look who’s talking! The big boss himself is running around all over creation!"
Despite his grumbling, he didn’t let it slow him down. He quickly selected a suitable team and notified them to be on the afternoon flight to Xilinhot, Inner Mongolia.
.........
"Here comes the lamb!"
"Whole roasted lamb!"
"Stuffed lamb stomach!"
Exquisite lamb delicacies were laid out on the table, one after another, filling the entire yurt with a rich, savory aroma.
Su Chen’s mouth watered. He casually picked up a lamb rib and took a bite. It was wonderfully tender and aromatic.
To Su Chen’s surprise, the lamb was exceptionally delicious.
Cooking in Inner Mongolia was known to be very simple. Herders, in particular, would just boil lamb in plain water, dipping it in a sauce made from chive blossoms only when eating.
It was Su Chen’s first time eating lamb this way, and he found it extraordinarily good. The meat, paired with the chive blossom sauce, satisfied his every fantasy about feasting heartily on meat with a single bite.
After finishing the lamb rib, Su Chen noticed everyone was watching him. "What are you all looking at me for? Dig in! It won’t taste as good once it gets cold!"
Ji Wan saw the greasy sheen on Su Chen’s mouth. He hadn’t expected Mr. Su to be so unceremonious, completely different from what he had imagined.
At his words, the others stopped holding back and dug in as well.
"Mr. Su, you have to try this stuffed lamb stomach. It’s made with shank meat from young Wuzhumuqin lambs—the meat is incredibly fresh and tender!" Ji Wan said, pointing to the dish near Su Chen.
Following Ji Wan’s finger, Su Chen saw seven or eight bundles, each the size of an adult’s fist.
"These stuffed lamb stomachs are huge!" They were almost two or three times the size of the ones you’d find for sale elsewhere!
Without a second thought, he picked up the small knife from the table, speared one of the bundles, and transferred it to his plate.
’He’d seen this trick online before: herders in Inner Mongolia mostly ate with their hands and rarely used chopsticks.’
As his knife sliced it open, a rich, savory aroma flooded his senses, and Su Chen couldn’t help but take a few deep breaths.
"Amazing! Absolutely amazing!" Su Chen praised sincerely.
’He sighed inwardly. It seemed everything was dirt-cheap at its source. A stuffed lamb stomach of this quality would sell for at least several dozen yuan back in his hometown of Wudu; you wouldn’t get it for less.’
The meal lasted for over an hour, and Su Chen was thoroughly satisfied. Whether it was the boiled lamb, the stuffed lamb stomach, or the whole roasted lamb, everything was at least a tier above what he had eaten anywhere else.
After eating and drinking his fill, Su Chen chatted with Ji Wan in the yurt for a while before setting off back to the city.
He had originally planned to have some fun—ride a horse, enjoy the prairie scenery—but the wind on the grassland howled incessantly. Coupled with the bitter cold, the wind felt like a knife scraping against his face.
Ji Wan had wanted to escort Su Chen back to the city, hoping to score some brownie points in the process, but a phone call from his father, Ziggy, shattered his plans.
Ziggy’s call had a simple purpose: he wanted Ji Wan to come to Dongwu Banner to help him. After all, Ziggy was nearly fifty, and his energy wasn’t what it used to be. Completing the integration in just five days would be a difficult task alone.
Having Ji Wan there would be a great help, at the very least, in explaining the situation to the other herders and clarifying what was at stake.
They say a full belly makes for a sleepy head. That, combined with having woken up early, meant Su Chen collapsed onto his bed the moment he got back to the hotel.
