Chapter 107: Chapter 96: Sometimes, Missing Out Isn’t a Bad Thing!
When Su Chen pushed the door open and walked in, he found the room completely empty. His heart clenched, and he quickly turned and headed for the nurse’s station...
Chen Fei, trailing behind Su Chen, didn’t immediately grasp the situation. But when he peeked into the special care room, he instantly understood.
’How is the room empty? Don’t tell me the patient... passed away?’ On the way up, Chen Fei had glanced around and noticed that many of the patients on this floor had kidney failure or uremia.
Snapping out of it, Chen Fei hurried to catch up with Su Chen.
"Excuse me, nurse," Su Chen asked, looking a little anxious. "I was wondering where the patient from Special Care Room 3 went?"
"Special Care Room 3? One moment!" The nurse gave Su Chen a surprised look before flipping open her record book.
The nurse quickly found the record. "Sir, the patients in Special Care Room 3 and Special Care Room 4 have both been discharged!"
"Discharged?" Su Chen asked, looking at the nurse in confusion.
"Yes. According to our records, both patients’ surgeries were very successful. They recovered well and were discharged a few days ago."
Su Chen nodded. "Thank you for your help, nurse."
"It’s no trouble at all!" the nurse said quickly. She knew the patients in Special Care Rooms 3 and 4 were no ordinary people; there weren’t many who commanded the personal attention of the department director.
Su Chen’s mood lightened considerably after leaving the hospital, as if a weight had been lifted from his shoulders.
He didn’t call Yang Wei to ask how he was, either. After all, Yang Wei had given him an IOU. A sudden call might be mistaken for him calling to collect the debt.
After a moment’s thought, Su Chen called Hao Zi. The news he received was somewhat surprising: Yang Wei had quit his job and gone back to his hometown in Bashu. He had left on a high-speed train just that morning.
Apparently, Yang Wei had tried calling him for two straight days but couldn’t get through. He then had Hao Zi and the others try, but they couldn’t reach him either. Before leaving, he had specifically told them to make sure they got in touch with him.
Su Chen instantly figured it out. They had been calling him while he was still in Paris, so of course the calls wouldn’t have gone through. He also understood why Yang Wei was so desperate to find him.
Yang Wei knew his old bank account information. However, Su Chen had since switched to a new black card and cancelled the old account. He figured Yang Wei must have tried to transfer the money, found that the transaction failed, and then asked Hao Zi and the others to watch for his call.
Before hanging up, Su Chen specifically told Hao Zi not to give Yang Wei his new number. He gave him a brief explanation; otherwise, he was sure Hao Zi would sell him out in a second.
"It’s probably for the best that we missed each other. Maybe this was fate’s design."
Su Chen muttered to himself and headed for the parking lot. As he passed a trash can, he pulled a slip of paper from his pocket, tore it into tiny pieces, and tossed them in.
Su Chen never intended for Yang Wei to pay back the 800,000 yuan in the first place. This turn of events was for the best. It would allow them to return to their hometown and focus on getting healthy. With that money, he was sure their family could live a comfortable life.
As long as the illness doesn’t relapse...
"Pah, pah, pah." Su Chen lightly slapped his own mouth a few times. ’Thinking of the worst when I should be thinking of the best... I deserve a smack!’
"Ahem... Sir, are you alright?" Chen Fei, who was trailing behind, asked hesitantly, watching Su Chen’s somewhat neurotic display.
Su Chen shot him a look. "My mouth was itching, so I slapped it. What about it?"
Chen Fei shook his head back and forth like a rattle-drum.
"It’s nothing. Let’s just drive home."
"Go home? Sir, what about these health supplements? Aren’t we giving them to someone?" Chen Fei asked, hoisting up the four boxes.
"You keep them. Mail them to your grandmother when you get a chance," Su Chen said, then opened the car door and got in.
Chen Fei froze for a moment at Su Chen’s words. When he snapped out of it, he quickly bowed.
"Thank you, Sir!"
