Chapter 106: Chapter 96: Sometimes Missing Out Isn’t a Bad Thing

These were high-quality small businesses, all carefully selected by our internal teams. They’re all just starting out. Each company’s financing round was between seven or eight hundred thousand to one or two million—nothing like Byte’s previous round, which was in the tens of millions.

Su Chen nodded thoughtfully, then asked out of the blue, "Is the company running low on cash?"

"Er... The company’s funds are more than sufficient. We currently have over one hundred fifty million!" Pei Rang said with a smile.

Over one hundred fifty million? Su Chen glanced at Pei Rang in surprise, his eyes telling him to stop beating around the bush and get straight to the point.

You see, Su Chen had transferred a total of three hundred fifty million to the company. Of that, fifty million was paid out in bonuses to the staff. The Byte financing and acquisition cost over twenty million US Dollars, which was nearly two hundred million RMB. Now, another fifty million had been invested. How could there possibly still be one hundred fifty million on the books?

So where did the extra hundred million come from?

The answer: playing the stock market.

As an investment firm, Yunmengze Capital would naturally only invest in other companies after ensuring it had sufficient operating capital.

Pei Rang and Zong Xinyao were in complete agreement on this. Pei Rang led the investment team, making frequent plays in both domestic and international stock markets—futures, short-term trades, you name it. As long as it was profitable, they seized the opportunity, whether the returns were in the tens of thousands or hundreds of thousands.

Meanwhile, Zong Xinyao led the internal team responsible for screening promising enterprises. During the month or so that Su Chen was away, all of Yunmengze Capital operated at an incredible pace, which was how they managed to secure investments in twenty-three quality companies in such a short time.

The total investment amount wasn’t huge, but it covered a very wide range of sectors. As long as just one of those companies broke out, their investments wouldn’t be considered a failure.

Why was everyone at Yunmengze Capital, from top to bottom, working so hard and in such unity? It was all because of the fifty-million-yuan bonus Su Chen had handed out. It showed everyone that hard work truly pays off. Even though the rank-and-file employees didn’t receive as much as Pei Rang and the senior staff, they each still got twenty to thirty thousand. This made them realize their boss was no cheapskate...

That alone was enough to make everyone strive to do their best.

"Well, well, Pei Rang. I was wondering why you were so proactive today, leaving at three or four in the morning to wait for me at the airport. It turns out you’re here to fish for compliments!" Su Chen teased with a laugh.

"Hehe, Boss, I had no such intention! I came to pick you up out of sheer sincerity!" Pei Rang quickly, and unconvincingly, argued.

"Alright, alright. I know you, Zong Xinyao, and everyone else at the company have been working hard. As for the reward..." Su Chen paused in thought for a moment before continuing, "I won’t be handing one out for now. Wait until the end of the year, and I’ll give you all a huge one!"

’Su Chen had just given out a bonus, so giving out another one right now would be overkill. It would be much better to wait until the end of the year. The whole company could celebrate properly, and everyone could go home happy for the New Year.’

Hearing this, Pei Rang’s face bloomed into a wide grin. "Hehe! On behalf of every employee at Yunmengze Capital, I thank you for your generosity, Boss!"

Seeing how excited Pei Rang was, Su Chen couldn’t help but pour some cold water on him. "Look at you, getting all smug. Remember to stay grounded. Take it slow and steady, and don’t get too eager for quick results. The company should slow its pace of investment for now. And the investment team needs to be extra careful. Any mistakes could lead to immeasurable losses for the company!"

"I understand, Boss!" Pei Rang’s heart tightened. He knew his boss was giving him a preemptive warning, telling him not to get carried away by their recent success.

By the time they returned to Oceanview One, it was already six in the morning. They had grabbed breakfast from a roadside stall on the way.

Just as Pei Rang was about to leave, Su Chen stopped him and had Jiang Hui bring out two gift boxes of wine for him.

"Boss, what’s this?" Pei Rang asked, looking at the wine in his hands. They had no labels and looked like something you’d buy for a dozen yuan a bottle from a street vendor.

"I brought them back from Paris. They’re from the vineyard on my family’s estate. Those two bottles you’re holding are a special reserve, aged for nearly fifty years. Fewer than a hundred bottles were ever produced. They’re for you and Zong Xinyao."

’From his family’s vineyard? Aged fifty years? A special reserve?’ Pei Rang was still trying to process this, feeling a bit dazed.

But he did understand one thing: these bottles, which looked like they came from a street stall, were incredibly valuable.

"Thank you, Boss!" Pei Rang carefully secured the two bottles of wine before driving off.

On this trip back, Su Chen had basically cleared out the vineyard’s entire stock of aged wine. A friend nicknamed Sicong had taken most of it, but Su Chen kept a portion for himself. He had about five hundred bottles aged forty to fifty years, and another five hundred bottles of other vintages. In total, it was just over eighty cases, all loaded onto his private jet and ready to be shipped back to his courtyard home in the Imperial Capital.

Su Chen had also taken three cases from the plane to keep at Oceanview One. That way, if friends ever dropped by, he’d have something proper to serve them.

"Sir, who are we visiting at the hospital? You bought so many fine gifts," Chen Fei said, tightening his grip on the four gift boxes in his hands. They were filled with expensive supplements like saffron and cordyceps.

Su Chen had to visit several different shops just to find authentic ones.

"An old friend," Su Chen said without turning back. ’I wonder how Sister-in-law and Xiaoyann are doing.’

Following his memory, Su Chen quickly made his way to the special care unit of the nephrology department.
