Chapter 296: Chapter 296: Kidnapping
Su Li’s train of thought was interrupted by Little Tang Mo.
Little Tang Mo had been waiting and waiting, and when Su Li didn’t come out, he couldn’t help but go get her.
’We’ll be late if we don’t go now!’
"Okay, okay, I’m coming, I’m coming."
A tug from Little Tang Mo snapped Su Li back to her senses, and she hurriedly got up.
The temperature outside had really dropped. Su Li and Little Tang Mo had just gone downstairs when they both shivered.
"It’s so cold."
As Su Li spoke, she could feel her nose start to run from the cold.
With a helpless look, she took off her gloves, pulled out a handkerchief, and wiped her nose.
’Having a cold really makes me miss modern tissues. They were so convenient. Now I have to use a handkerchief.’
Since Su Li had a cold, she had brought all the handkerchiefs in the house with her.
After wiping her nose and putting her hat back on, Su Li took Little Tang Mo’s hand, and they walked to school, shivering.
The more they shivered, the colder they felt. Su Li took a deep breath and spoke.
"Little Mo, stop shivering. Come on, take a deep breath with Mom."
After taking a few deep breaths, they finally stopped shivering and felt much more comfortable.
After dropping Little Tang Mo off at his school, Su Li rushed to her own school as fast as she could.
It was warm inside the classroom, and Su Li breathed a sigh of relief.
But the warmth only made her already fuzzy head feel even foggier.
She was drowsy, and her head was both aching and dizzy.
"Su Li, why don’t you take the day off and go home? I think you might have a fever."
Chang E touched Su Li’s forehead, her voice filled with worry.
"I’m fine. I can manage." Su Li shook her head. Even though she wasn’t feeling well, she couldn’t afford to take another day off.
"If you start feeling worse, tell me. I’ll take you home. You can’t just tough it out," Chang E insisted.
"Okay." Just as Su Li nodded, a small bag of medicine appeared on her desk.
"Su Li, I just ran to the school infirmary to get this. You should take some; it’s for your symptoms."
Qu An’s voice sounded from above her.
Su Li looked up at Qu An’s concerned face and gave a helpless smile.
"Thank you, but I’ve already taken some medicine, and I have more with me." She tried to give the bag back to Qu An.
Qu An looked hurt. "Just think of it as a classmate looking out for you."
He said quietly and returned to his seat.
"Hey..." Su Li was left holding the medicine, unable to call him back.
Seeing the nearby students looking at her, Su Li forced a smile. With Chang E tugging her hand and persuading her, she put the medicine back on her desk.
"Oh, Su Li, just keep it. It’s his way of showing he cares. With so many people watching, if you insist on giving it back, I’m afraid he might actually cry."
Su Li really couldn’t imagine a big guy like him crying.
She gave a stiff smile and gave up.
She finally managed to get through her morning classes.
Chang E practically carried Su Li back to the dormitory. Once she lay down, she didn’t want to move.
As the weather grew colder, Little Tang Mo’s elementary school began providing lunch for the students to prevent them from going out, getting cold, or slipping on potentially icy ground.
For a small fee, they could eat at school. The food was simple, but it was decent.
Seeing that Su Li was sick, Little Tang Mo decided to eat at school today so she wouldn’t have to come pick him up.
Su Li lay in bed, feeling dizzy and groggy. ’Thank goodness Little Mo is so smart,’ she thought. ’There’s no way I could have managed otherwise.’
Su Li slept for a while before being roused by Chang E.
Chang E had gone to the cafeteria to get her a meal and only allowed her to go back to sleep after she had eaten and taken her medicine.
There were two more classes in the afternoon, but Chang E didn’t wake Su Li.
Cold medicine usually makes you drowsy, and Su Li slept straight through until after her classes had ended.
"Oh my god, it’s so late!" Su Li jumped when she saw the time. Little Tang Mo was already out of school!
Su Li scrambled out of bed. "I have to go."
’I can’t let Little Tang Mo wait for long, not in this freezing weather!’
Just as Su Li was putting on her shoes, there was a knock on the dormitory door.
"Su Li? Are you in there?"
"Yes!" Su Li answered quickly.
A girl she didn’t recognize looked at Su Li and said, "Su Li, your little brother is here to pick you up. He’s downstairs with the dorm supervisor. You should hurry down."
Su Li froze. "Huh? My brother?"
"Yeah, a really cute little kid. He might be shy; he didn’t say a word. He just showed a note to the dorm supervisor, and she asked me to come get you."
Su Li grew anxious when she heard that.
"What? Is he still downstairs?"
’How did Little Tang Mo get here?! And he’s calling himself my brother?’
Forgetting she hadn’t put on her other shoe, Su Li ran out the door, dragging it with her.
"Wait, Su Li! Put on your scarf, hat, and gloves."
Chang E pulled her back. "Your brother is just downstairs. He’s not going to run off. What’s the rush?"
Chang E chided as she bundled Su Li up. "You already have a cold; you need to be more careful."
"Thanks." As soon as Chang E let her go, Su Li bolted for the first floor as fast as she could.
Little Tang Mo was sitting obediently next to the dorm supervisor. When he saw Su Li coming down, he immediately stood up, his eyes filled with worry.
Little Tang Mo didn’t speak, but as Su Li looked into his eyes, it was as if she could hear his words.
"Mom, how are you? Are you okay?"
The dorm supervisor’s eyes were full of affection. She smiled warmly at Su Li and said,
"Su Li, your little brother came to get you. He said he was worried because you’re sick."
Su Li looked down at Little Tang Mo, who was standing on his tiptoes trying to feel her forehead, and squatted down with a sigh.
"Why did you come all the way here? Were you trying to make Mo—" freёwebnoѵel.com
Little Tang Mo, who was pressing his forehead against Su Li’s, immediately covered her mouth to stop her from saying the word "Mom."
Su Li didn’t know whether to laugh or cry.
After realizing Su Li didn’t really have a fever and seemed to be in good spirits, Little Tang Mo relaxed. He took Su Li’s hand and gave the dorm supervisor a sweet smile.
"Oh, my, you’re such an adorable child."
"Thank you so much. Sorry for the trouble," Su Li said quickly.
Little Tang Mo also bowed to thank her.
The dorm supervisor waved her hands dismissively. "It’s no trouble at all. Hurry on home."
’What a cute kid. The two of them, brother and sister, are both so polite.’
Su Li led Little Tang Mo out of the dormitory and asked him in a low voice, "How did you find your way here? Weren’t you afraid something might happen on the way? What if you got lost?"
Little Tang Mo shook his head firmly. He wouldn’t get lost; he remembered the way to Su Li’s dormitory and her classroom perfectly.
Looking at him, Su Li felt a mix of helplessness and affection as she tugged at his hat.
"Don’t do this again, okay?"
"Are you feeling better?" Little Tang Mo asked silently.
"Much better. I slept all afternoon, so my head is a lot clearer now," Su Li answered.
When they reached the cafeteria, Little Tang Mo started pulling Su Li inside.
"Do you want to eat in the cafeteria?" Su Li asked.
Little Tang Mo nodded. Of course—he couldn’t let Su Li go home and cook.
After they got their food and sat down, Su Li learned that Little Tang Mo’s last class had been P.E. Because of the cold weather, it was a free period, so he was let out of school early.
He had gone home first and, seeing she wasn’t there, grew worried because she was sick and came to pick her up.
"You’re really something else... But why did you say you were my little brother?" Su Li asked. frёewebnoѵēl.com
Little Tang Mo replied, "Because your classmates aren’t moms or dads."
’He’s so clever!’
Little Tang Mo even made a pact with Su Li. "From now on, at your school, I’ll call you Big Sister instead of Mom."
Su Li ruffled Little Tang Mo’s hair. "You’re such a character."
After dinner, Su Li and Little Tang Mo walked home hand in hand, but as they neared their apartment complex, they were kidnapped.
