Chapter 152: Chapter 152: Wen Ci, Don’t Misunderstand
Earning several thousand yuan in a single day was shocking enough.
"Well, as the old saying goes, the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree. With the Jiang Family’s genes, isn’t it perfectly normal for their children to be outstanding?"
"That’s right. Any girl who marries Captain Jiang would be living a blessed life. Her father-in-law is a minister, her mother-in-law is a businesswoman, and her husband is a young captain."
"Sigh, I have a young niece who’s the same age as Captain Jiang. It’s just that her family background isn’t a good match. She’s truly beautiful, though—fair-skinned and gorgeous."
"Is she as pretty as the Jiang Family’s daughter?"
"Not quite."
The gossiping aunts all laughed together. Everyone in the military region knew Captain Jiang was a hot commodity. But their own husbands weren’t high-ranking enough to even speak with Minister Jiang.

In just two short hours, more than half of the truckload of clothes had been sold. Wen Ci’s bag was stuffed with cash, and she couldn’t wipe the smile off her face.
Once this truckload was finished, she could do another round of promotion at the market tomorrow. Then, she could start negotiating with the major wholesale markets and shopping malls in Beijing for the remaining clothes in the warehouse.
The sun began to set, its orange light dyeing the horizon red.
Seeing there wasn’t much merchandise left, Wen Ci leaped down from the truck, dusted herself off, and pulled out five yuan to hand to the driver.
"Thank you for all your trouble, Sir."
The truck driver waved his hand, refusing. "You’ve already paid me. I can’t take this."
Wen Ci said, "Consider this payment for your help."
The truck driver hadn’t been idle this afternoon; he’d been helping hand out and pack up clothes the whole time. Besides, she couldn’t keep troubling Xu Jinghe for future jobs hauling goods from the train station to the warehouse.
She needed to befriend the truck driver as well.
"Really, you don’t have to."
"I insist."
Seeing he couldn’t refuse, the truck driver scratched the back of his head and said sheepishly, "Well, in that case, could I have two summer outfits? I’ll pay you the difference."
"That’s no problem at all."
Wen Ci gave all the remaining clothes to the truck driver—three summer outfits and two winter ones, all in a standard size.
"Oh, I couldn’t possibly."
As he spoke, the truck driver pulled a crumpled twenty-yuan bill from his pocket and held it out to Wen Ci. "Twenty yuan. I’m already getting a huge bargain."
These five articles of clothing together weighed at least five or six pounds.
"I really don’t want your money." Wen Ci pushed the bill back as she spoke, saying frankly, "I’ll probably be needing a truck often over the next few months, so I’d like to be friends with you, Sir."
"I’m on call anytime!"
The sky was growing dark.
Gu Che had just finished tutoring Jiang Ye and was about to leave. When he saw Wen Ci was still there, he jogged over to her. "Wen Ci, don’t get the wrong idea."
Wen Ci was confused.
Gu Che started explaining himself without prompting, "My relationship with Jiang Ye isn’t what you think. She’s paying me to tutor her at her home."
"And?" Wen Ci’s gaze lowered slightly.
’At most, she and Gu Che were just acquaintances from the same hometown; their relationship wasn’t close enough to warrant an explanation. Then she recalled that Jiang Ye’s high school boyfriend was a top student from Huaqing.’
Wen Ci couldn’t help but see him in a new, more impressed light.
’Huaqing was a top-tier university, and getting into Huqing University was as difficult as an army crossing a single-plank bridge.’ She said calmly, "Actually, you don’t need to explain anything. I’m not concerned with what kind of relationship you two have."
After saying this to Gu Che, she turned to the truck driver and said with a smile, "Sir, you can go ahead and leave. I still need to make a trip to the military barracks."
She had sold a total of 2,374 pounds of clothing to the family compound today. According to the Beijing Military Region’s Logistics Department subsidy of three yuan per pound, the total came to 2,374 x 3 = 7,122 yuan.
The Logistics Department settled the bill promptly, counting out the ten-yuan bills and handing them to Wen Ci.
