Chapter 145: Chapter 145: I Want to Do Business
Wen Ci lowered her gaze.
She was determined to continue with her business ventures. Having witnessed the prosperity of the Southern coastal regions, she wanted to carve out a niche for herself through her own abilities.
A little exhaustion didn’t matter.
’Huo Jingyuan is my husband,’ she thought. ’When I’m exhausted, body and soul, a hug from him is all it takes to recharge my batteries.’
Wen Ci said, "I want to go into business."
"It’s all up to you. Whatever you say, goes." The man held Wen Ci’s waist, his voice full of doting affection. As he took in her fragrance, his eyes gradually darkened.
Before his discharge, the doctor had told him about various things to pay attention to, with "no strenuous exercise" topping the list.
He had asked the doctor at the time if sex counted as strenuous exercise.
The doctor’s reply: "It doesn’t, but try not to be too vigorous."
Since marrying Wen Ci, they had never been apart for this long. Devil’s Week had been spent out in the field. All told, they hadn’t... for nearly a month.
’A man who’d developed a taste for it could hardly be expected to abstain.’
Huo Jingyuan’s eyes crinkled at the corners, and his lips curled. "Are you fully awake?"
"Hm?"
The sudden change in topic struck Wen Ci as odd. She pulled away from his warm embrace, puzzled. "I don’t quite understand what you mean."
The words had barely left her mouth when his rough hand caressed her earlobe. Wen Ci’s thick lashes trembled as she deciphered the unspoken meaning in his deep eyes.
Wen Ci pushed his hand away and scooted to the middle of the bed. She lifted a foot and hooked it around his waist, her eyes dancing with a teasing smile. "Just got out of the hospital and you’re already trying to get sent back to ’recuperate’?"
Wen Ci put special emphasis on the word "recuperate."
Life in a hospital room was dull and boring. Wen Ci knew Huo Jingyuan hated it, so she was deliberately teasing him, waiting to see if he would dare to follow through.
"I already asked the doctor." Huo Jingyuan leaned in, slowly closing the distance, and whispered word by word, "The doctor said sex doesn’t count as strenuous exercise. And if worst comes to worst..."
His voice was deep, husky, and soft, as if he were luring her in step by step.
"Hm?" Wen Ci’s voice rose at the end, inviting him to continue.
"I’ll lie still."
Wen Ci’s face flushed. She pulled the corner of the blanket over her face, her expression a mixture of shyness and exasperation.
’This shameless man!’
Seeing her crimson cheeks, Huo Jingyuan lowered his gaze, a smirk playing on his lips.
Every time he pushed the envelope with his risqué talk, she would blush like this.
The summer rainy season in Beijing always arrived with a vengeance. In less than a minute, the sound of a downpour raged outside, accompanied by the roar of thunder.
Huo Jingyuan locked the door, slipped off his shoes, and squeezed under the thin blanket. His hands began to explore beneath the covers as desire kindled in his dark eyes. His Adam’s apple bobbed.
"Even the heavens are granting my wish."
The soundproofing in the old houses of the military compound was terrible; any loud noise upstairs could be heard downstairs. The thunder and rain, however, would cover up their sounds.
A fiery kiss landed on Wen Ci’s nose. Her breath hitched. His intense gaze was locked on her before he leaned down and kissed the corner of her mouth.
"Wifey, you be gentle with me."
’He’s just putting on an act,’ Wen Ci thought.
’As if it could ever be that easy.’
-
「The next day.」
Sunlight streamed in. Wen Ci was woken by the sound of someone running downstairs. She got up, pulled back a corner of the curtain, and saw Wen Yaozu jogging, panting for breath.
Wen Ci raised an eyebrow.
’Am I seeing things?’
’Since when does Wen Yaozu get up to run without being yelled at?’
