Chapter 122: Chapter 122: Have We Ever Broken Up?
Jiang Ye blinked back her tears, the corners of her eyes flushed a pitiful red as she nodded emphatically. "I’ll definitely get in."
Just then, Jiang Chen shot his mother a cold glare and spoke through clenched teeth, "This is the second time. The second time you’ve slapped me for Jiang Ci."
His tone was clearly a threat.
Seeing this, Jiang Ye reached out and tugged on his sleeve. "Brother, don’t be angry," she said in a soft, sweet voice. "Mom didn’t mean anything by it. A girl’s reputation is the most important thing."
"Even she understands that. Why don’t you?"
Jiang Ye: "..."
’This fight between mother and son has nothing to do with me. As long as I can improve Mrs. Jiang’s opinion of me, I’m golden. Besides, what’s a little fight between mother and son? They won’t hold a grudge.’
’First things first.
I need to find Gu Che and coax him into tutoring me.’
Seeing the tense stalemate, Jiang Ye glanced at the living room clock. There were still about ten minutes before Jiang Chen had to leave for work. "Brother, you should head to work. I’m going back to my studies."
"Mm."

After leaving the Jiang family’s house, Jiang Ye racked her brain, trying to remember where Gu Che lived. All she could recall was a run-down alley somewhere in the suburbs.
She walked as she thought, eventually arriving at the main gate of the Beijing Military Region.
Jiang Ye immediately spotted Gu Che sitting by the side of the road. He was tall, around 180cm, with tanned skin and a strong, sturdy build.
’If only Gu Che were faithful, he’d actually be a good man.’
’But he had an old flame in his heart, a woman he loved but could never have.’
’Twenty years from now, he would even end up paying for the company of recent college graduates, simply because they bore a slight resemblance to that old flame.’
Gu Che saw Jiang Ye at the same time.
Jiang Ye walked over to Gu Che. The smell of beef noodle soup from a nearby stall made her swallow hard. Breakfast at the family compound’s cafeteria was just eggs.
’Eggs were a very nutritious breakfast, of course.’
"Are you here to see me?" Gu Che asked.
’He hadn’t planned on coming back to the military region. But even though he’d been accepted to Qingbei and the school was covering his tuition, his family wouldn’t give him a cent for living expenses.’
’In the year he’d been dating Jiang Ye, he had eaten meat with all three meals. Back home, it was nothing but thin soup. His stomach had been spoiled; he didn’t want to go back to that life.’
"Mm," Jiang Ye nodded shyly.
"So, does that mean you want to get back together?!"
A blush spread across Jiang Ye’s face, reaching her earlobes. People were still a bit conservative back then, and many passersby were now staring at them in the open.
"Did we ever break up?"
Hearing this, Gu Che chuckled softly. "You’re right. We never officially broke up."
Without mentioning anything about needing him to tutor her, Jiang Ye invited Gu Che into the family compound with a beaming smile. "Why don’t you come over to my place for a bit?"
"Is that alright?"
"Of course."
Gu Che looked at her, pleasantly surprised, a flicker of anticipation rising in his heart. ’I don’t know the full story with her family, but I’ve met her brother.’
’He’s so young and already a captain in the Beijing Military Region.’
Suddenly, Gu Che thought of the proper etiquette for visiting someone’s home for the first time. He hesitated, then said, "If I’m meeting your parents, shouldn’t I bring a gift?"
"My dad’s at work on the base, and my mom’s on a business trip. It’s just been me at home lately."
Gu Che stuck his hand in his pocket, feeling the money he had on him, and breathed a silent sigh of relief. ’I only brought one yuan with me. That’s definitely not enough to buy a gift from a shop.’
Jiang Ye asked, "How has your studying been going?"
"I already got early admission into Qingbei."
"Huh?"
