Chapter 37: You have been called
I used to live in a simple room in the annex building, but now I’ve been confined to a lavish, almost extravagant place within the main palace.
’They shifted me here right when I woke up, and since then, two days have passed.’
There was nothing much to do here since the criminals that they had caught and the ones following the Faceless Manipulator were all inside the dungeon under this castle.
And while things have been boring, playing with Alex and teaching her new things was a salvation that helped me get much better over these days.
She had almost grasped the ’expression’ and was able to attract the birds in the central graden of the castle.
She comes here every single day, spends her time talking about how she met new spirits and how the colorful birds weren’t afraid of her anymore, and then she plays with Nix and Felix.
I want to teach her about the Spirit arts but if I do that, her ’mothers’ will confront me again and force me to just rest and recover even though I have been completely fine since yesterday.
"Haaaa..."
It’s been too boring without anything much to do. If I were still in the annex building where we had created an entire lab, I could have at least spent some time making a few useful things.
’I could have worked on that curse as well.’
Alas, we will have to relocate that entire place to this lavish room that’s three times as big as the lab and my room in the annex building combined.
There’s a lab attached to the room as well so it’ll be easier to have this place instead of the old one.
’The Ladies of the house prepared a lot of things for me actually.’
I wanted a better place by proving my worth so I was expecting at least a better facility around the castle, but this is better than I expected.
"Meow~!"
"Chirp~!"
Both of my little friends were happy here. The sunlight in this high up room was amazing. The room was enchanted with various safety and leisure spells and not only a lab for my research, there was a study area here, a big balcony where I can start a small garden, and an amazing bathroom.
This place was great for everything. And if that wasn’t enough, I was given a new, absurd allowance by Lady Emilia, access to almost any place within the castle by Lady Markeet, and thanks to Lady Isha, I can order any material for any of my experiments.
’They must have paid a visit to my lab in the annex building already. I guess Lady Markeet had to carry out a thorough investigation for any remnants of the enemy forces.’
They should already know I’m doing some strange and special things so they are keeping me here, in a place where all those things would be safer.
’I could tell they are feeling guilty for a lot of things.’
It’s understandable that they weren’t able to pay attention to a child that was confined to the annex building all this time when they had their own children as well as this entire family to run.
Each one of them had their own responsibilities and there was also the Patriarch who might have made them do their own work.
I know they aren’t the bad ones themselves, but that doesn’t change anything that has already happened.
We cannot change any of that, so doing all of this wasn’t necessary either.
"Anyways..." It’s too boring right now.
After waking up, I’ve already finished six books on the current academic elements. I spent a few hours writing a bunch of papers, and after teaching Alex and training with Felix, I even analyzed the enchantments in our room.
But it was still eating me away.
’I’ve not seen my father after the battle.’
The Ladies told me he was dealing with other things since the matter involved a criminal that was accused of regicide in one of our allied kingdoms.
On top of that, the unique mind-body manipulating abilities of the faceless manipulator made him very difficult to deal with.
’Father also needed to deal with the representatives from the other families that were here during the whole scene.’
I do understand that he was busy, but the fact that he did not even come to check up on me until now makes me angrier.
’I wanted to kill him.’
There were just too many reasons to not be angry at him. But, doing so would only bring agony to the others. I cannot do that.
If things go as they have in my past life, our house might just fall in a few years.
And I won’t be here to go down with it so, let’s not worry about unnecessary things.
-Knock. Knock.
"Young master Prism." Lexie knocked on the door since I was in the bedroom.
She didn’t have to do that, but I just surged it off as I asked her to come inside.
"Hello there, Miss thief. A very good morning to you."
I gave her a certain task before the battle started and she carried out the mission perfectly.
"We are all accomplices in this, young master. If I get caught, I will tell them all about it." She chuckled while covering her mouth, but even as a joke, she didn’t say she would tell them it was my order.
If anything, she might deal with unnecessary things by herself.
’I’d fear the ones that might have to go against her, but that’s unlikely.’
It’d be almost impossible to find something that realistically just ’vanished’ into thin air.
"Ahem. A good morning to you too, young master." Her voice was as soft as always as she greeted me.
"You have been called by the patriarch."
And with the greeting, she finally delivered the news that I have been waiting for all this time.
"Seems like he finally finished dealing with his side of things."
He didn’t come to see me till the very end and now he was calling me there. It was very typical of him, and I guess he won’t be alone since he called me there.
"Looks like we shouldn’t make him wait then."
This was going to be more important than recovering.
All that I’ve done until now was for this anyway.
Now that I’ve proven I am not the trash that they had made me, the family would want to control me as best as they can.
But, thanks to my contribution in the previous war, they will have their hands tied.
’And I’ll just use that moment to get out of this damned place.’
