Chapter 2879 - All Manner of Divine Abilities

River Empress Lu Ping! River Emperor Winged Dragon narrowed his eyes.

They were both ranked among the thirteen strongest river emperors. He naturally understood how strong she was.

He was also stunned that Wang Zhiwu would call out Lu Shi by name. He transmitted, “Fellow Daoist, is there a grudge between you two?”

“A bit of one, yes.” Lu Shi turned to face Wang Zhiwu and frowned. “But what’s with all that talk of running away?”

Wang Zhiwu pointed at Lu Shi and cursed him out without reservation. “Cut the fucking crap already! Hurry up and give me River Emperor Bai Ye’s true name!”

Lu Shi was completely bewildered. He forced his fury back down and said, “Have you gone mad? When did I steal River Emperor Bai Ye’s true name?”

Wang Zhiwu laughed coldly. “Too chicken to admit to your crimes, huh? You really are shameless, Lu Shi!”

“Fellow Daoist, has there perhaps been a misunderstanding?” River Emperor Winged Dragon said gravely. “Fellow Daoist Lu Shi and I have been here for days. Neither of us has left even once during that time, nor has he...”

But before he could finish, Wang Zhiwu cursed him out, too. “Like hell there’s been a misunderstanding! Who the hell do you think you are, anyway? You have no place in this conversation, so step aside!”

River Emperor Winged Dragon glowered, his eyes blazing with murderous intent. He was one of the mightiest River Emperors in the surrounding million miles of river. No one insulted him like this!

“Don’t do anything impulsive! The stele comes first!” Lu Shi transmitted.

River Emperor Winged Dragon was instantly solemn. He forcefully suppressed the murderous intent building in his chest. fгeewёbnoѵel.cσm

“Wang Zhiwu, I’ve always disdained to hide my actions,” Lu Shi said gravely. “You and I have known each other for a long time. You ought to know that. Why not calm down and explain what happened? If this is a misunderstanding, there’s still room to smooth things over. If you attack, there’ll be no room left for discussion.”

Wang Zhiwu frowned. He was starting to get the sense that something wasn’t right here.

But then, he laughed coldly. "If there’s a misunderstanding, there’s a misunderstanding! We have nothing to discuss!”

He’d wanted to kill Lu Shi back in the God Domain, too, especially now that he and Su Yi had bonded through conflict. He saw Lu Shi as his enemy. How could he possibly have any interest in a conversation with him? What if Lu Shi was deliberately stalling for time?

Thus, before his words had even finished echoing through the air, he waved his hand. “Lu Ping, you deal with River Emperor Winged Dragon. I’ll handle Lu Shi!”

River Empress Lu Ping subtly inclined her head. “Exactly what I had in mind.”

She knew that the ten-thousand-foot stele wasn’t simple. The fact that Lu Shi and River Emperor Winged Dragon had stayed here all this time proved it. freёweɓnovel.com

“You really want to fight?” Lu Shi glowered.

Earlier, River Emperor Hong Ye performed a divination and located him. Lu Shi instantly sensed that something was amiss, and he got the vague sense that someone had screwed him over. Now, Wang Zhiwu had shown up out of nowhere, and he was shouting inexplicably at him. Lu Shi increasingly suspected that someone was plotting against him.

“You can forget about leaving until one of us is dead!” Wang Zhiwu laughed coldly, shot through the air, and charged.

River Empress Lu Ping attacked practically simultaneously, stirring up thousands upon thousands of arcs of green flame.

Lu Shi felt stifled and frustrated, but he couldn’t be bothered to argue any further. He just shot into the air, and soon, he and Wang Zhiwu were locked in combat.

“Lu Ping, that guy’s an idiot. Don’t tell me you are, too? Even a dog could tell that this is all just one big misunderstanding!” River Emperor Winged Dragon shouted as he fought.

They’d yet to find leads to the Key to Endless Tribulations. He naturally didn’t want to fight a life-or-death battle now. Especially a battle so inexplicable.

“So what if there’s been a misunderstanding? If you’re worried about your safety, why not just take Lu Shi and flee?” River Empress Lu Ping said playfully.

Even as they conversed, they attacked without the slightest politeness. Soon, the battle raged with unprecedented intensity.

“I understand. You said all that, but really you’re just after the stele!” River Emperor Winged Dragon said coldly, the depths of his gaze seething with hatred and murderous intent.

He and Lu Shi were the first to discover the stele, but now, it seemed obvious that River Empress Lu Ping was trying to seize it!

“We’ll just have to see whether or not you have that kind of skill!” River Emperor Winged Dragon snorted coldly, unleashed his natal divine ability, and attacked with all his might.

Meanwhile, Wang Zhiwu and Lu Shi were locked in a fierce battle of their own.

“The rumors were true. You really have been hiding your true strength and cultivation base this entire time!” Lu Shi said coldly.

Now that they were really fighting, he realized that the famous Master of Legends was far, far stronger than the rumors said!

Wang Zhiwu said coldly, “Breaking through is boring. It’s far more fun to suppress my cultivation. If you don’t like it, kill me! If you can, that is.”

In truth, he was stunned, too. Lu Shi’s strength was also far beyond his expectations!

“You like suppressing your cultivation, huh?” Lu Shi’s eyes flashed with disdain. “Never mind you, Wang Zhiwu. Even if a Heavenly Sovereign showed up, they could forget about intimidating me!”

He spoke with the utmost self-confidence and contempt.

Wang Zhiwu burst into laughter. “Is that so? Well, I guarantee that unless you run, one of us will die today!”

Kaboom!

The battle raged with renewed intensity. Their force and momentum weren’t at all inferior to the two River Emperors’. Within moments, both Wang Zhiwu and Lu Shi were wounded. The former bled from a head wound, while the latter was covered in gashes. Both their murderous intents were even denser than before.

“Entering the River of Destiny and reaching this place proves that you’re extraordinary, but if you really think your skills are enough to kill me, you’re insane!” bellowed Lu Shi, then swung his sleeve.

Boom!

A glittering golden jade scepter shot into the air, its blazing firelight illuminating all of heaven and earth. Its dazzling radiance stung the eyes.

The scepter’s power shook and dispersed the baleful energies on all sides, drawing the attention of the clashing River Emperors. Both of them looked stricken.

What kind of treasure is that? Wang Zhiwu’s gaze focused. He suddenly bellowed and extracted a dazzling, seven-colored flying knife from the crown of his head. It hovered in midair, scattering a waterfall of seven-colored radiance. Its firelight interwove, dazzling and resplendent.

When the jade scepter came crashing down, the seven-colored flying knife actually managed to block it!

The two mystical, unfathomable treasures clashed with a terrifying current of destructive power, shaking the entire stretch of heaven and earth.

“Is that treasure the work of a Heavenly Sovereign? Alas, you can at best use it as a trump card. When its power runs dry, it’s sure to shatter,” Wang Zhiwu said with a cold laugh.

“Isn’t that true for you, too?” Lu Shi glanced at the seven-colored knife. It too was the work of a Heavenly Sovereign, but it wasn’t a true sovereign-level weapon. It was at best a killer weapon kept in reserve, more like a talisman than anything.

“Ah, but I have a lot of them!” Wang Zhiwu waved his sleeve, and countless treasures flew forth: Daoist seals, fly whisks, copper mirrors, and scriptures, among others. All of them shone with intense light and emanated divine majesty.

River Empress Lu Ping couldn’t help but sigh. Earlier, he used that page from the Book of Legends, and now he’s using his other hidden cards. Fellow Daoist Wang is really holding nothing back. I don’t get it. Why go to such lengths to defeat Lu Shi? Is there some sort of irreconcilable grudge between them?

River Emperor Winged Dragon gasped. He didn’t know Wang Zhiwu, but the sight of him tossing out so many treasures as if he were made of money came as a huge shock.

“Hah. You think you’re something special, huh? But I have no lack of such treasures, either!” Lu Shi laughed coldly and swung his sleeves. Treasures whooshed forth like a school of fish, all of them glowing with intense light. Their radiance filled heaven and earth.

Even Wang Zhiwu was unwittingly stunned. Is this really the same Lu Shi I know?

As their thoughts raced, both Wang Zhiwu and Lu Shi took out their treasures and attacked explosively. Heaven and earth were in chaos, with visions of collapse and destruction playing out throughout the landscape.

Even River Empress Lu Ping and River Emperor Winged Dragon had no choice but to move further away to avoid the aftermath.

From time to time, treasures exploded, shaking both heaven and earth with thunderous booms. But neither Lu Shi nor Wang Zhiwu seemed to care about the lost treasures in the slightest! They attacked ferociously, repeatedly emptying their coffers as they attacked indiscriminately.

The two River Emperors couldn’t help but cluck their tongues. Those two aren’t ‘fighting to the death.’ They’re competing to see who’s wealthier!

Finally, River Emperor Winged Dragon couldn’t take it anymore. “Lu Ping, if things go on like this, both sides will suffer badly. That won’t benefit any of us! Don’t forget that we’ve yet to uncover leads to the Key to Endless Tribulations. Is it really worth going to such lengths at this juncture?”

River Empress Lu Ping frowned. She was a bit hesitant, too. After all, they’d come here to search for information about the key, not to risk their lives. If the battle continued, they might win, but they’d pay a heavy price for the victory and lose more than they gained.

“How isn’t it worth it? So long as I manage to kill Lu Shi, it’ll be worth it no matter the price! Lu Ping, don’t listen to his crap. Just kill him! No one is allowed to leave until we’ve determined life and death!” roared Wang Zhiwu, his gaze utterly frenzied.

River River Empress sighed. “Winged Dragon, as you can see, Fellow Daoist Wang won’t be happy unless I take your head.”

“Hmph!” River Emperor Winged Dragon glowered and said no more. Both River Emperors fought with greater fire, both as ruthless as could be.

Su Yi, who was hidden in the distance, saw it all. He’d never even considered that Wang Zhiwu would show up so soon after he’d impersonated him. Much less that Lu Shi would appear in much the same way! He certainly hadn’t anticipated that Wang Zhiwu would chase him while he was disguised as Lu Shi, then bumble into the real Lu Shi!

Su Yi almost couldn’t help but suspect he had the divine ability to summon someone by impersonating them. This was too much of a coincidence. Was this the influence of the Book of Destiny?

Perhaps, but there was an element of coincidence, too. He’d impersonated just two people, only for both of them to show up almost immediately after. If word spread, he feared no one would believe it.

Su Yi’s understanding of the Book of Destiny, and of destiny as a whole, shifted.

The Book of Destiny might not be able to influence him directly, but it seemed it could influence those connected to him, thereby influencing him indirectly! So-called coincidences and karma were, ultimately, part of destiny.

For instance, the source of all of this was the Key to Endless Tribulations. It was the root of all this karma and all of these coincidences, as well as the treasure that had drawn both Lu Shi and Wang Zhiwu here.
