Chapter 2878 - The Well-Nourished Girl and the Tome
Su Yi fell silent, but Mo Hanyi continued, his voice full of ruefulness. “Throughout the ages, everyone who’s proven their Dao in the River of Destiny has, for all their efforts to resist destiny, struggled to truly escape its influence.
“That’s why so many powerful existences died lamenting how destiny plays tricks upon us all.
“Little Destiny’s Chosen, you now control the first page of the Book of Destiny. You naturally ought to understand that this isn’t just alarmism.”
Su Yi laughed. If you prove your Dao on the River of Destiny, you’ll inevitably be influenced by destiny? What a coincidence. It just so happens that I didn’t prove my Dao on the River of Destiny. I’ve never sought external power, either! In that case, how could destiny possibly influence me?
But then, he naturally wouldn’t tell Mo Hanyi that. Su Yi didn’t trust him, or any of the other old monsters in the Book of Destiny, for that matter. He naturally wouldn’t tell them his secrets.
Instead, he seized the opportunity to ask about something else entirely. “How many pages are there in the Book of Destiny, anyway?”
Mo Hanyi looked stunned; it seemed he hadn’t anticipated that Su Yi would disregard the Book of Destiny’s influence and change the subject so quickly. He paused before responding, “There are three pages in total. This is a number of great significance to the Grand Dao, and to the Book of Destiny.”
The Dao gave rise to one, one gave rise to two, two gave rise to three, and three gave rise to all things. This was the significance of the number three.
Su Yi recalled that the Spirit Platform Chapter was similarly divided into three sections. The first was located on the first page of the Book of Destiny.
It thus seemed logical to conclude that the second page contained the second section, and that the third contained the third section.
“What secrets are hidden on the second page?” asked Su Yi.
Mo Hanyi fell silent this time. Finally, he asked, “Little Destiny’s Chosen, you really aren’t worried that destiny is controlling you?”
Su Yi responded with a bold-faced lie. “It’s because I’m worried that I want to grasp the Book of Destiny’s secrets as quickly as possible.”
“So that’s it,” said Mo Hanyi. “In that case, open the Divine Punishment Destiny Ruin and use Directing Destiny to bring me there. Do so, and I’ll naturally tell you all of the book’s secrets.”
Su Yi’s eyes flashed. He exclaimed, “Wait, I can do that?”
Mo Hanyi said warmly, “Of course! The mysteries of the Book of Destiny are beyond your imagination. If you master the Book of Destiny in its entirety, hah... You’d really be something then: the master of destiny, a true ruler of creation!”
Su Yi asked with great interest, “Then where are you now? How can I open the Divine Punishment Destiny Ruin?”
“Simple!” said Mo Hanyi. But just as he was about to continue, he fell silent.
“Why not answer?” Su Yi urged.
Mo Hanyi laughed coldly. “You’re trying to trick information out of me, aren’t you, kid? You’re too crafty! Fine, then. You’re on your own!”
Su Yi sighed, finding this an awful pity. “You’re too small-minded. I’ve been open and forthright with you, but you refuse to trust me, and now you accuse me of manipulating you. You’re truly making a fool out of yourself.”
Mo Hanyi snorted coldly. “Just wait, kid! Enjoy letting the Book of Destiny manipulate you. I’ll be waiting for you to come crawling back when you hit a dead end!”
With that, Mo Hanyi’s voice fell silent.
Su Yi just smiled. We’ll see who winds up begging whom!
He closed the Book of Destiny and stuffed it back into his sleeves. Then, he took out a jug of wine and pondered his next steps.
River Empress Peacock’s whereabouts were still uncertain, but Su Yi could say with some degree of certainty that she was somewhere in the Abhorrent Evil Forbidden Zone. It was just that the Abhorrent Evil Forbidden Zone was enormous, and the whole place was shrouded in mist. Trying to find her was no different from trying to fish a needle out of the ocean.
Something suddenly occurred to Su Yi. What would happen if I stopped suppressing the Book of Destiny? How would that affect the Abhorrent Evil Source Zone?
The Book of Destiny had been ravenously hungry since he’d arrived in the Spirit Treasure Celestial City. It seemed agitated and full of longing.
That feeling intensified after reaching the Abhorrent Evil Source Zone. If Su Yi hadn’t kept it constantly under control, it would have long since emerged of its own accord.
No, I can’t reveal the Book of Destiny. If people find out I have it, I’ll be in even greater danger. Su Yi decisively rejected the idea. He wouldn’t take out the book unless it was truly a life-or-death situation.
“Innocence, come on out and have a look.” Su Yi waved his sleeve, and a little girl in shabby rags appeared out of nowhere.
She bowed timidly, then said, “As you say, Master!”
Wei E was unwittingly flabbergasted, then disdainful. The fake Wang Zhiwu has a pitiful, gaunt little girl like that for a servant? That’s just sick!
But then something happened that made him break out in a cold sweat.
The seemingly pitiful, scrawny little girl opened her mouth and inhaled, pulling all of the baleful energy in a ten-thousand-foot radius into her stomach, like a whale swallowing the ocean. She didn’t leave even a drop behind
Without the fog, the surrounding scenery came into focus.
Wei E’s eyes practically popped out of their sockets. That baleful energy could kill even a River Emperor, but that little girl actually devoured so much of it at once!
Wei E stared intently at her. He could already picture her little body corroding and shattering as she died a horrible, bloody death.
But nothing of the sort happened. Instead, innocence rubbed her belly and burped, breathing out gray, turbid energy.
She stretched out her hand, and the turbid energy condensed into a bundle. “Master, this is the strange, malevolent power I mentioned earlier. I’ve sealed it, so please have a look.”
She then passed it to Su Yi.
Wei E stared, disbelief written all over his face. That little girl can actually suppress and refine these impure energies? Fuck! I was really blind earlier! ƒrēewebnovel.com
Meanwhile, Su Yi examined the bundle of turbid energies. Just as Innocence said earlier, the baleful energies of the Abhorrent Evil Source Zone were manifested of the long-dead River Ancestor’s heart devil!
But the River Ancestor’s heart devil had in turn been invaded by a strange, malevolent power, leaving it mottled, impure, and utterly strange.
From this, Su Yi drew a conclusion. A long, long time ago, it was that strange power that invaded the River Ancestor’s heart devil in the first place, leading to his ultimate destruction!
His bones now supported the Spirit Treasure Celestial City, while what remained of his destroyed heart and heart devil became the Abhorrent Evil Source Zone!
Now, Innocence used her abilities to refine that strange, malevolent power and presented it to Su Yi. It was turbid and gray, mixed with nigh-imperceptible blood-red light. Even condensed into a bundle, it was obvious that this power had spirituality and life force. It wriggled continuously as if struggling to break free!
“What kind of power is this? It actually managed to destroy the heart of a River Ancestor,” Su Yi said with a frown. “And River Ancestors are comparable to Heavenly Sovereigns.”
He pondered briefly, then stuffed the bundle of strange power into the Book of Destiny.
The Book of Destiny quivered, opened to its first page, and devoured the power like a starving wolf.
Su Yi was stunned. That strange power vanished in the blink of an eye. Not even a trace remained. The Divine Punishment Destiny Ruin hadn’t changed a bit, either.
The Book of Destiny still quivered, like an impatient baby bird eager for its next meal.
It was quite strange. The Book of Destiny hadn’t shown any sign of such longing even when absorbing the true names of River Kings and Emperors.
Su Yi pondered briefly, then asked Innocence, “Does refining this power hurt you in any way?”
Innocence shook her head, then averted her gaze as if embarrassment. “Master, a portion of that energy came from a heart devil. To me, it’s highly nutritious food. I accidentally overate earlier, which is why I burped...”
Su Yi didn’t know what to say, while Wei E was totally befuddled.
Su Yi promptly made a decision. ‘Come on, I’ll bring you along to a sumptuous feast! But keep this in mind: don’t eat too much in one place, and don’t leave too obvious vestiges. Just take a little from any given place to avoid attention.”
Innocence visibly perked up. She broke into a sweet, obedient grin. “Thank you! Please rest assured. I won’t forget my manners!”
Her eyes sparkled with delight.
Wei E was speechless, and he felt dizzy. He couldn’t even begin to understand what was going on!
Without any further delays, Su Yi set off. Innocence led the way, while Wei E followed at the tail end of the procession.
Along the way, Innocence frequently waved her hands in the air, and from time to time, she engulfed turbid energies until her cheeks bulged. All of that malevolent power flowed into her mouth, like rivers flowing into the sea.
But she really was holding back. She didn’t clean any place out. Instead, she left the majority behind.
Even so, Wei E noticed that while the turbid energies were originally incomparably dense, they grew noticeably sparser as the little girl led the way.
The sight left Wei E overcome with astonishment. He couldn’t even begin to imagine how such a ridiculous little girl could exist in this world.
She was one of a kind!
As Innocence refined the area’s malevolent power, she condensed one bundle of energy after another. She gave them all to Su Yi, who in turn stuffed them into the Book of Destiny.
Innocence was in a great mood. Su Yi was looking forward to the Book of Destiny’s transformation, too.
As for Wei E... well, he kept one hand clutched to his bodhisattva pendant at all times, and he felt completely dazed and bewildered.
...
Meanwhile, before a battered, ten-thousand-foot stele.
Lu Shi had just restored another marking. He let out a deep breath, and there was no hiding the exhaustion on his face. freēwēbηovel.c૦m
Using the Writing Brush of Genesis drained far too much soul and heart power to the point that he had no choice but to stop and rest at regular intervals.
From beginning to end, River Emperor Winged Dragon watched over him. Unlike Lu Shi, he was rather ill at ease.
He’d recently received word of the shocking, grand battle just outside the Abhorrent Evil Source Zone.
Apparently, both Bai Ye and Thousand Hands had died in battle!
The killers were River Empress Lu Ping and a mysterious young man in gray robes.
“The Abhorrent Evil Forbidden Zone is getting more and more tumultuous...” River Emperor Winged Dragon furrowed his brow. He knew that numerous others had set their sights on the Abhorrent Evil Source Zone, just like he had. All of them were after the Key to Endless Tribulations!
The only thing that reassured him was that he had Lu Shi by his side. So long as they could decipher the markings on the stele, they’d surely be able to find some useful leads!
Hm? Just as he was pondering, River Emperor Winged Dragon sensed something and gazed into the distance.
Practically simultaneously, Wang Zhiwu and River Empress Lu Ping appeared in the distance.
When they saw Lu Shi and River Emperor Winged Dragon standing before the stele, Wang Zhiwu erupted with murderous intent and burst into laughter. “Hey, Lu Shi, you son of a bitch! Let’s see where you can run this time!”
