Chapter 64: 64-Beauty Comes With A Price

Verity:

As her finger pointed toward me, all eyes turned in my direction.

"What did I do?" I asked calmly.

There was something different about the way they were looking at me.

Ragnar had a strange anger in his eyes. Theodore looked guilty.

Jaguar seemed confused.

"I want water, please."

The moment she explained why she had been pointing at me, the two brothers let out a breath.

Ragnar, meanwhile, simply closed his eyes and sighed.

I wasn’t sure whether it was relief or exhaustion.

I immediately moved closer to her, knelt down, and held out the water.

Jaguar took the glass from my hands and started helping her drink.

However, I noticed how quickly Ragnar took the glass from him.

It seemed as though she had them wrapped around her little finger.

I did not want to be the weird one for saying this, but her attitude toward the brothers seemed a lot like mine.

I had been trying to do the same thing, to get their attention and make them mine alone, until I ended up driving them apart.

Slowly, they helped her up from the floor.

Then Theodore rushed to grab a chair and placed it behind her.

She sat down and took a few deep breaths while finishing the rest of the water.

Then she shifted in her seat and stared at Ragnar.

"She’s not lying," Gigi uttered.

I frowned in confusion because it seemed like she was talking about me.

The others glanced at me before turning their attention back to her.

She looked at me again.

"What did you say about the unknown number texting you?" she asked, wiping the tears from her cheeks with the back of her hand.

She did it haphazardly, as if she was still shaking.

"Someone had been texting me and threatening me," I responded, somewhat absentmindedly.

I was trying to gather as much information as possible from her and figure out why she was asking me this question again.

And what did it have to do with her dramatic reentry into the office?

"Exactly."

She then turned to Ragnar after saying that. Her tongue darted across her lips as if her mouth had gone dry.

"Tell me what happened."

The way Ragnar held her hand between both of his enraged me.

She didn’t deserve any comfort after what she had put my brother through. freeweɓnøvel.com

But of course, I kept a concerned expression on my face.

"I went home because I wanted to confirm a few things," she mumbled before looking around in confusion.

However, Theodore suddenly held out a hand, her bag dangling from it.

"Are you looking for this?" he asked, silently letting her know that when she had dropped it, he had picked it up instead of leaving it behind.

She smiled at him before accepting the bag.

They watched her face with amusement, probably waiting for her to tell them what had happened.

She pulled out several papers, some torn and some folded.

If my guess was right, they looked like letters.

Some were crumpled, while others were not.

She hastily spread them across the table in front of the brothers. freeweɓnovēl.coɱ

At first, they looked confused and began picking up the letters.

However, I had no clue what was going on.

"Look."

She picked up one crumpled letter.

"I’ve been receiving letters," she uttered, causing my heart to skip a beat because it was almost as if I could see the plan she had come up with.

"And one of those letters said that if I didn’t listen to him, he would attack my employees, the people who work under me, and the people around me," she continued hysterically as she unfolded the letter.

Before the brothers could take it, I snatched it away.

I guess everyone was shocked that I did.

"Dear my love," I read aloud.

"I spent another night dreaming about you. I can’t find peace without seeing you. Watching you secretly and thinking about you is the greatest purpose of my life. My heart stops whenever I think I won’t be able to see you. But what about this? You give all your attention to the Alpha King brothers. Seeing this burns me up. Why? Because they are powerful. But they don’t know how powerful I am. I am the most powerful, and you have to want me."

I paused to catch my breath.

"If you don’t distance yourself from them, I will attack your employees, your fiancé, your boyfriend’s employees. I will terrorize everyone. I will scare every woman in the pack. I can do a lot for you. I am your only crazy lover."

I finished reading and watched Ragnar stare into space, completely zoned out.

Theodore was the first to punch the air, while Jaguar slammed his hand on the table.

"Who the fuck thinks he can call her his lover?" Jaguar screamed.

"I don’t understand," I said to her, instantly stopping everyone’s dramatic reactions.

"You’re not the target, Verity."

She spoke in a shaky voice.

"Whoever is attacking you is doing it because of me. I am the target."

She pointed at herself before burying her face in her hands and starting to cry.

And suddenly, it all made sense.

She had figured that me being a victim might make the brothers protective of me, so she came up with this brilliant idea to make herself the victim instead.

I mean, I had looked at the letters.

The handwriting itself looked like it had been written by a child, or by someone trying very hard not to be identified.

"You were receiving text messages. We can reach the person behind them," Ragnar said harshly and I shrugged.

"I mean, I’ve tried. It comes from some rogue community. Rogues don’t have addresses, and you can never trace their numbers back to them."

The moment I said that, she buried her face in her hands and started crying again.

"No, no, no. A rogue. A powerful rogue. What does he want from me?" Gigi cried, wrapping her arms around herself.

"I don’t love anyone else. I am a loyal she-wolf. Why is this happening to me? Why is my beauty becoming a curse?"

As she cried, the Alpha King brothers looked at her with so much concern that it was honestly disgusting and cringe-worthy at this point.
