Chapter 52: 52-He Carries Me In His Arms
Verity:
I waited in the car for a while before straightening my back when I saw Theodore return with a tray of food.
He must have ordered a whole entrée from a nearby café.
He was completely soaked, though, because he was so excited to have this moment with me that he did not even care about his branded suit.
That was how I knew I had him in my claws, but Theodore could be a different case.
I remembered how he had made me feel last time, and afterward, he had planned to do all that with me just to leave me in the end .
I could not afford to fall into his trap as well.
He might be planning something nasty for me, maybe to fully take me and then discard me.
That was why I had made notes. I was not going to let him have me completely, only here and there, enough to keep him hanging until I was fully certain he was madly in love with me.
For now, the minute he got in, he smiled and started arranging the tray in the backseat for me.
"This is a lot of food," I laughed.
Then my eyes landed on the macaroons. I had asked him for macarons.
And macaroons had coconut in them.
"These are macarons?" I asked in a tone that would confuse him.
He nodded to my question.
"Well, they look different."
While he was opening the other food containers for me, I quickly grabbed a macaron.
I knew I was taking a huge risk with my health.
I had to stop him from going to Gigi’s place.
He took out a plastic plate and held it steady while filling it for me as I took a bite of the macaron.
"Oh, by the way, where did I drop my phone?" he asked, suddenly checking his pocket.
I started to cough.
His attention snapped back to me.
"You okay? Do you want water?" he asked, completely forgetting about his phone again.
I tried to respond, but I coughed once more.
"Verity, take some water."
He quickly got onto his knees on the seat.
He had to hunch down because he was so tall that the car roof seemed too low for him.
He poured a glass of water and held it out to me.
I took a sip before he settled back into his seat while I stared at the macaroon in my hand.
"What is in this?" I asked.
I could feel my throat closing.
"It’s coconut."
As soon as he said that, I looked up at him, and I could tell he mirrored the horror on my face.
"What happened?" he asked with the same alarm I was feeling.
"I asked for macarons," I mumbled.
"Yeah, but they’re the same thing, aren’t they?" he replied.
Not realizing the only difference was in the name, he kept staring at me.
"This has—" I coughed again, clutching my neck.
Every time I did, I watched more horror cross his face.
"It has coconut, and I’m allergic to coconut."
That was all I managed to say before panic struck him.
The minute I said those words, all the color drained from Theodore’s face.
"What?" he snapped, already scrambling to do something for me.
I coughed and nodded, my throat feeling tighter with every passing second.
"Theodore—" I could barely say his name.
"Oh, fuck," he grunted, staring at the food tray in front of me for a second.
For a moment, I could tell he was trying to figure out what to do.
Then he threw the door open and flung the entire tray outside.
Containers scattered across the wet pavement under the heavy rain. ƒгeeweɓn૦vel.com
"Don’t close your eyes, Verity. Look at me."
He said it after settling back into the seat.
I rolled my eyes internally.
The man sounded like he was the one dying.
Then he rushed to the driver’s seat and tried to start the car.
However, the moment he shoved the key into the ignition, it occurred to both of us that nothing was happening.
The engine clicked.
Then clicked again.
And after that, nothing else.
Theodore froze for a second.
Then he cursed so loudly that even I forgot I was having an allergic reaction.
"You’ve got to be fucking kidding me."
While the rain hit against the windshield, I started to feel like I might have taken things too far.
The engine refused to start.
My breathing was becoming rougher and heavier by the second.
He tossed the keys into the backseat and got out of the car again.
Without another word, he opened the door on my side, put one knee on the seat beside me, and lifted me into his arms.
"Theodore," I uttered his name once again.
"Not a word," he muttered, his jaw clenching.
The next thing I knew, the world blurred.
One second, I was in the car and the next, I was in his arms, and he was sprinting so fast it almost felt like he was flying.
At that moment, I realized an Alpha King’s power was never to be questioned.
His strength was beyond anything I had ever witnessed.
The way he moved, the way he practically flew through the streets, felt unreal.
Rain crashed against us.
Wind whipped through my hair, but he held me close, pressing my face against his chest.
I could no longer focus on the passing cars or anything around us.
I heard people shouting.
Cars were honking.
Then the sounds would abruptly die down once they realized it was the Alpha King.
Not that I could see much.
Everyone’s faces were blurry at this point.
Honestly, I doubted they could even tell who he was carrying.
That was how fast he was moving.
I buried my face deeper into his chest and coughed.
"Verity, it’s okay. I got you."
His response came immediately.
That was the craziest thing.
I had never heard Theodore sound scared before.
I had seen his cocky grin.
I had seen him angry.
But scared?
Nope, never.
That was when I realized maybe I had affected him a little.
Just a little.
This wasn’t only about sex. If it were, he could have found that anywhere.
There was no reason for him to be doing all this for me.
No reason for him to care so much that he was willing to risk his image.
If someone recorded this and uploaded it online, it would become a scandal.
The Alpha King brothers were attractive.
Two of them were still bachelors. freeweɓnovel.cøm
Rumors spread fast around men like that.
