Chapter 81: Cooper?

Three days later,

"How do I look?" Ruby asked, spinning in front of me.

"You look ready," I answered.

"No, do I look sexy? Gorgeous? Do you think he’ll ask me out after our date?"

"I think he’ll eat you up; you don’t have to worry, you’re good to go."

She smiled and picked up her purse. "Wish me luck."

"I wish you success. I hope your date goes smoothly."

"Thank you." She walked to the door and opened it.

"Do you have to go by cab?" I asked, stopping her before she could leave my room.

"Hmm?" She looked at me.

"Joshua can take you to the restaurant."

"Oh no, I’ll go by cab; it’s better that way."

I raised my brows at her statement, and she continued, "What if he wants to drive me home after dinner but can’t because I have a driver? Nah, I don’t want that."

"Okay," I laughed, "I understand."

"If things go well, I’ll text you tomorrow morning," she winked and finally left my room.

I laughed and threw myself on the bed. I also want to go out on a date. I miss dating.

It’s not that I’ve been on many dates; the brothers have taken me out a few times, but right now, I’m craving one.

A beep came from my phone, making me sit upright. I reached for it. Who texted?

I opened my inbox and saw a message from Cooper.

"Can we meet for a minute? I’m outside the house," the text read.

He is here? What does he want?

"Why?" I replied.

"I’ll tell you once I see you," he responded.

I sighed, "Have you forgotten our agreement? You’re not supposed to visit the house. You’re supposed to let me be at peace."

"Please."

I heaved a sigh, got out of bed, put on my flip-flops, and went downstairs.

"Going somewhere?" a maid asked.

"Just stepping outside for a bit," I said, exiting the house to see Cooper leaning against his car.

A frown settled on my face. "You’re not supposed to come here. You’ve forgotten our agreement. I don’t want to see either of you. You’re supposed to stay away. Why can’t you understand? I want to be left alone—" I stopped abruptly when he rushed to me and embraced me.

Why... what is this? Why is he hugging me?

"I’ve missed you," he murmured, tightening his grip on me. He brought his nose to my neck and began to sniff me. "I’ve really, really missed you," he repeated, but I didn’t reply and just stood there.

"I was going crazy not being able to see you. Staying away is difficult; can you let me see you at least once a week?" He asked.

"What did you just say?" I pulled away from the hug and took a step back.

"I want you to see me once a week," he repeated. "Please."

"I... You can’t do that." I looked away. "We already agreed," I murmured.

"I know." He came closer and took my right hand, but I snatched it away and kept my gaze down.

He took my hand again; I snatched it back. He took it a third time. "Look at me," he said, but I refused and kept my gaze down. He doesn’t seem to understand my situation.

I need a long break from them. All four of them.

"You can’t even look at me," he sighed. "Are you that mad?"

"Mad?" I looked at him. "How can you say that?" I groaned, snatching my hand away again.

He exhaled loudly and stepped back. "I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have come," he apologized, and when I didn’t respond, he fell silent.

He cleared his throat a minute later and looked at me again. "How are you? I couldn’t check on you because..." He paused. "Are you okay?"

"I am."

He shook his head. "I’ll see you again; you can go inside."

"Thank you," I whispered, turned, and without looking back, went into the house and straight to my room.

He shouldn’t have come here. It hasn’t even been six months, and he already misses me? If he knew he couldn’t live without me, then why was he cheating on me?

Hypocrites. I’m getting mad and hungry just thinking about it.

I should eat. I left my room and went to the kitchen, where I met the head servant.

"Can’t sleep?" She smiled.

"I want cereal; I’m hungry."

"Oh, I can make you something better. What about noodles?"

"No, I don’t want noodles, they’ll make me feel heavy. I need a light meal."

"Alright, give me three minutes," she said and immediately set to work. After three minutes, she presented a dish with my cereal.

"Would you like it here or in the dining room?"

"Here, please." I walked to the kitchen stool, placed the cereal on the counter, and ate.

"Thank you for this." After placing the dish in the sink, I excused myself and went back to my room. When I got there, I found my phone ringing.

"Ruby," I said, grabbing the phone and answering the call.

"Why? What is it?" I asked.

"Girl, we’re going to a hotel; he wants to spend the night with me," she whispered.

"He wants to spend the night with you?"

"Yes," she giggled.

"Have you given him an answer?"

"I told him to give me a minute; I’m in the restroom right now. I’m in a dilemma. I want to do this, but I’m unsure. It’s our first time, so—"

"Do you feel a connection with him? Do you think he’s sincere about his feelings?"

"I’m not sure about his feelings."

I sighed.

"What if he only wants to have sex with me?" She asked, sounding concerned.

"I... I can’t tell, Ruby."

"I shouldn’t give in too easily, right?"

"Yeah, you shouldn’t, but... do you want this?" freewebnovёl.ƈom

"Yes! Of course! I anticipated this before I left the house, but I’d be heartbroken if I found out he only wants to use me."

"Oh..."

"Bye. I’ve just decided. I’ll accept him; I want this."

"Alright, give me feedback once you’re done," I smiled.

"Of course." The call ended.

But barely fifteen minutes later, Ruby called again. I answered and heard her crying.

"Why are you crying?" I asked, alarmed, but she just kept crying and didn’t respond.
