Chapter 73: Minor injury

"Ms., can you see me?" The doctor’s voice was the first thing I heard when I opened my eyes.

"Can you see me? I want you to tell me how many fingers I am holding up." He held up three fingers.

"Three," I mumbled.

"Okay, good." He brought the penlight to my eyes, and after examining them, he mumbled some words to the nurse.

"Her motor reflexes are also good. Observe her for a few more days, and if she remains in a stable condition, we’ll discharge her."

"Yes, doctor," the nurse replied, writing in her book. The doctor left, and the nurse moved closer to me. She smiled. "Hello, you underwent a minor surgery, but you’re okay now. Your friend wants to speak to you; I’ll let her in. I’ll wait two hours before I bring your meal."

She patted my shoulder and left the room. The door opened, and Ruby entered, wearing a mask.

"You are okay now," she smiled at me.

"Hmm, what are they talking about?"

"The doctors believe you hit your head hard on the floor when you lost consciousness. They did a CT scan and then a head CT. They detected a minor injury, and the neurosurgeon performed a minor surgery to relieve pressure on your brain. You’re okay now."

"Oh, but my head hurts," I groaned.

"It will; the anesthesia just wore off, but the surgery was performed about four hours ago."

"Four hours?" I gasped. "What is today’s date?"

"It’s Wednesday. But it’s 4:30 a.m."

"Four... a.m.," I repeated.

"Yes."

"What about the event? Has the president’s son sent an invite?"

"No, but even if he does, I don’t think I’ll be able to attend."

"What?" I sat up in bed. "Why?!"

"I can’t leave you in this condition; your parents don’t know about this. I didn’t tell them."

"But I’m okay; I can attend the party with you."

"I’m not going. You said your head hurt."

"You said it was a minor surgery and that I am fine," I retorted.

"But I can’t go to the party with you. You need to remain in bed. Your head hurts."

"I’m sure it’s a side effect of the surgery; my head will stop hurting before 10:00 p.m. We must attend this event; this might be your only chance to secure a wealthy boyfriend."

"No, I don’t care about a boyfriend. You can’t go. I won’t allow it. And if I must attend the party, I’ll go alone."

"I am going with you. I am in a stable condition."

"But you need full bed rest. You were operated on a few hours ago."

"I’m not going there to dance; I’ll remain in my seat. I’ll also dress warmly; I won’t feel cold or worn out, I promise."

"I’d be risking your life by taking you there. I can’t!"

"You can!"

"I can’t! I was the one who suggested that game. If I hadn’t, you wouldn’t have landed in this condition. I got your necklace stolen; I also made you sick."

"What nonsense are you talking about?"

"It’s not nonsense. You went into that room because of the game, and the moon goddess knows what could have happened if Bryce hadn’t shown up when he did. We would have been in bigger trouble."

"Bryce? He was here?" I asked.

"Hmm," she nodded. "He came to deliver the necklace; he didn’t enter the house at first, but when he sensed something was amiss, he came in," she swallowed. "I confessed to him and revealed everything, including how we had been searching for you for over an hour. We couldn’t access the situation room. It was locked."

"He unlocked the situation room with his key, and after that, he went to the room you were locked in, unlocked it, and brought you out. He brought you to the hospital, waited until after the surgery was over, and then he left."

"Oh," I oohed, he was the one I saw.

"I was scared; you don’t know how scared I was when we couldn’t find you. At first, I thought you were joking around, but after we didn’t see you for thirty minutes, I began to sense something was wrong. I involved the maids, and everyone began searching for you."

"The guards also joined the search."

"You didn’t know I was in that room?"

"I don’t know that room. How did you get into it?"

"I saw a button on the wall."

"Bryce opened the room with a card; he didn’t press a button."

"Huh?"

"You weren’t with the card, and the door didn’t have a handle, so I wondered how you got into the room in the first place. Are you a spirit? How were you able to open the door?"

"I saw a button, I swear."

"Then why didn’t you unlock the door with the same button?"

"Because I didn’t see the button from the other side," I explained, but Ruby started staring at me like I was lying.

"I swear! I saw a button."

"The door doesn’t have a button. No servant has ever gone into that room. No one imagined that you would be there."

"So you didn’t hear me call out to you?" freeweɓnovel.cѳm

"No! No one heard you. We didn’t know where you were."

"But I saw a button; it was very tiny and almost invisible," I sighed.

"Next time, avoid such buttons. I almost had a heart attack because of you," she frowned.

"I’m sorry. It’s my fault," I admitted.

She folded her arms and squeezed her face.

"I’m truly sorry. I won’t cause trouble next time."

"You better not."

"My necklace... Where is it?"

"I kept it in your room; it should be on top of your table. I was in a hurry, so I didn’t have time to clean it or..."

"Clean it?"

"Yes," she breathed out.

"Why would you clean it?"

"Blood was on it. I think Bryce hurt the person who took the necklace; I’m not sure, but that’s what I suspect."

"He didn’t hurt the person. I’m sure he killed them. He doesn’t spare those types of people." freeweɓnovēl.coɱ

"I don’t care what he did to them. I’m just happy that you’re back; your necklace is also back."

"What is the dress code for the party?" I touched my head and noticed a bandage on the side. I think I’ll need a wig.

"Get a wig for me. Also, bring my makeup stuff; I’ll dress up here."

"You’re not going."

"I’m going to the party. Stop trying to stop me; I’m tired of exchanging words with you," I groaned.
