Chapter 72: Gold bars

After going down the stairs, I found myself in another empty room. Is this space a basement? No, it’s not. It’s big and has doors to other rooms.

I walked to the first room and opened it, but found it empty. I went to the second and third rooms and found them empty as well. But the fourth room was different; it had another door inside it—another room. I walked to the door and tried to open it, but the handle broke.

What the fuck. I can’t open this door.

I left the room and went to the fifth room, but I found it empty; then I proceeded to the sixth room. There were seven rooms in total. It looks like a sitting room and seven bedrooms were all built on the same floor.

In the sixth room, I found an elevator. It wasn’t electric; it was manual. You’d have to ride it and pull it. With my curiosity getting the better of me, I got on the elevator car and used the rope to signal the elevator’s arrival. When I got out of the elevator, a scream left my lips, and I almost passed out.

There were spiders and cobwebs everywhere. But that was not the most shocking part. What really shocked me was the number of gold bars stored in the room.

Gold bars were everywhere. The number of gold bars here could exceed a billion pieces.

How...! What is this place? Is this even real? Are the gold bars real or fake? I’m curious, but I’m also afraid to touch them.

There’s a path leading somewhere. I wonder where it leads. After clearing the cobwebs from my vision, I followed the path and arrived at a room—an empty room. I went into the room, and after searching around, I found a door. I opened the door, went in, and found another elevator, just like the other one.

I attempted to get on the elevator, but a thought came into my head. How will I get back up? How do I leave here? I keep going down. How do I go back up?

Oh shit. Since I’m already here, I might as well complete my journey. I got on the elevator and went down.

I arrived at a larger room that contained various compartments and cells. The entire room appeared filthy, with dead, dried-up rats and pets scattered about, and the numerous cobwebs made it nearly impossible to see clearly. But I pushed my way through and walked to the first cell; looking in, I found gold bars. They were stored from the bottom to the top of the room. I went to the second cell and found the same thing. The third, fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh, eighth, ninth, and tenth.

They were all filled with gold bars.

Okay, I think it’s time to return. There are only gold bars here; there’s nothing more to see. I turned and took the same path I followed; while returning to the elevator, my spirit almost left my body when my eyes caught four different skeletons.

Skeletons... Do they? Do they belong to humans or...? I felt my headache return, and my vision turned dark. I became dizzy.

Don’t tell me those skeletons belonged to real people. Drawing closer, I carefully examined the skeletons, and after doing so, a gasp left my lips.

I need to leave here. I need to escape. I need to... I need to... I’m breathing faster.

My heart is pounding. I don’t want this.

I need to regain my strength so I can leave this place, please. I can’t afford to lose consciousness here; I might also become a skeleton if that happens.

Summoning up courage, I dragged my feet to the elevator.

I got into the elevator car and rode it to the top. I got out and traced the path I took. I went to the second elevator and rode up.

Now I just have to... I just have to locate the stairs. Once I locate the stairs, I’ll be able to leave.

But I feel terribly weak and lightheaded; I think I’ve used up my strength. Maybe I should rest a little.

After making up my mind, I sat on the floor and leaned against the wall. I closed my eyes and stayed still for a few minutes; when I felt better, I rose to my feet and began to search for the stairs.

It was difficult, but I managed to locate the stairs. I took the stairs up and found myself in the first room.

Oh, thank the moon goddess. I’m back. I’m back at the house.

I went to the metal door and tried to open it, but the door didn’t budge. It doesn’t have a handle. I can’t find a button either.

There are usually buttons on the wall; why can’t I find one?

When I became tired of searching, I sat close to the door and started knocking.

"Hello!" I called.

"Ruby! I’m here. Open the door. There’s a button."

"Hello!"

"Hello!!" I continued calling, but I didn’t get a response.

I don’t know how long I stayed in that room, but I estimated that it was over an hour.

Why am I stuck here? Ruby must be searching for me.

"Ruby!" I started calling again. freewebnøvel.com

"Nanny Samantha. Anyone! I’m here."

"I’m stuck in this room. Open the door. There’s a button," I kept calling out until I became completely exhausted.

My vision turned dark, and I started losing consciousness again.

Oh no, don’t tell me this is happening again.

I have to remain alert.

I can’t lose consciousness here; I might die.

I need to get out of here. I forced myself to my feet and resumed my search.

Maybe I missed the button. Maybe the button is too tiny, so I missed it. I need to search again.

I resumed my search, but it proved abortive.

I became frustrated, and my frustration added to my headache. When I could no longer help it, I sat on the floor and passed out.

A few minutes after I lost consciousness, the door opened and my body was lifted into the air. My body shook as it traveled at lightning speed.

I felt myself on a bed, and something was pressed to my chest repeatedly. When I opened my eyes, I examined my surroundings and noticed how white they were.

Am I in a hospital?

Ruby’s face briefly appeared to me. Another familiar face appeared to me. I tried to open my eyes and tried to take a closer look at this person, but the next thing I saw was darkness.

I passed out a second time.
