Chapter 66: The live event
After we arrived at the mall, we queued for a ticket, and after purchasing it, we were allowed entry. The mall was pretty crowded; there were lots of women and a few men. Some customers came with their boyfriends, male friends, or even brothers. But seventy percent of the crowd were women, and they were all nicely dressed.
"See? I told you," Ruby grinned as we looked around the crowded mall.
"It’s too crowded, Ruby."
"Yes. But you’ll be safe; there is CCTV everywhere. You’ll be safe."
"Where should we go, then? Which store should we visit?"
"There’s a Gucci store over there. Let’s go to that one."
"But it’s pretty crowded there," I groaned.
"It’s the same everywhere." She held me and started moving toward the Gucci store.
"Maybe this was a bad idea; should I wait in the car? You can win all the prizes you want. I’ll wait."
"We’re using your black card to make purchases, remember?" she reminded me.
"Oh, you’re right. You can have the card, then." I tried to hand the card to her, but she stopped me.
"I’ll be lonely without you. There are so many pairs here; you can hardly find a single. Look around—most people came with their friends and boyfriends. Can’t you see it?" She frowned.
"Let’s go." She tightened her grip on me, and we went to the Gucci store.
The lady at the entrance stopped us. "Have you registered your names? And have you gotten your cards?"
"What cards?"
"A purchasing card. You’ll get it once you register."
"Why do we need the purchasing card?" I questioned.
"Once you purchase an item and make payments, your payments will be automatically registered to your name and account. The amount spent will reflect on your purchasing card. The purchasing card is important."
"Why would it reflect on the purchasing card?" I asked again. fгeewebnovёl.com
"For the competition. It’ll be easier to determine the winner using your name and purchasing card. Once the competition begins, you’ll be given the full details," she explained.
"But I’m not interested in the—" I started to say, but Ruby cut me off.
"Alright, thank you. Where do we register?"
"Take the escalator upstairs; you’ll find a long queue."
"Another queue? I can’t believe this," I scoffed.
"Alright, thank you, let’s go." Ruby thanked her and dragged me away.
We took the escalator up to find a really long queue.
"Moon goddess! Will it ever be our turn?" I exclaimed.
"Shh, it’s moving; it’ll get to us in a matter of minutes," she smiled and approached the last person in line.
"Come here, be quick," she urged me after taking her position.
I reluctantly went behind her and queued.
The line moved quickly and at a steady pace, and soon it was our turn. Ruby was about to register her name, but a purple-haired girl suddenly pushed her out of the queue and took her place.
The two people in charge of registration rose to their feet, startled by the lady’s action.
"Register me; I’m in a hurry. Be quick," the purple-haired girl ordered them.
"Uh, Miss, we can’t do that; you have to be in the queue to be registered."
"I’m in the queue! Can’t you see it?"
"This lady was before you," the male registrar pointed to Ruby, who was now outside the queue.
"Should I wait for her to be registered, then?"
"We’ll also have to register the other lady," he pointed to me. "And the ones behind her."
"So when will I be registered?"
"You’ll have to be in the queue for that to happen. Please go to the end of the line."
"I won’t. Register me now! How do you expect a lady of my status to queue behind these peasants?" she said, turning and eyeing us.
A scoff escaped my lips. Ruby’s face twisted with anger and disbelief; she made to attack the purple-haired lady, but I quickly stopped her.
"Allow them to handle it," I advised.
"But she pushed me; didn’t you see it?" she groaned.
"I know, but stay calm," I cautioned.
She huffed and remained still.
"Uh, Miss..." The female registrar cleared her throat and spoke up. "You’re delaying the registration process. Stand in the queue; it’ll get to your turn in no time."
"I can’t do that."
"You’re wasting so many people’s time."
"Don’t you know who I am? How dare you disrespect me? I could get you fired. I will make you peasants lose your jobs!" she threatened, pointing at their faces.
"Lady, please calm down," the male registrar interjected. "I don’t think you’re above everyone here; you’re just as—"
The purple-haired lady didn’t allow him to finish his statement; she smacked his cheek and yelled, "I am above everyone here. How dare you compare me to these peasants?"
Her outburst drew attention.
Two security personnel came over. "Are you okay?" they asked the guy she’d slapped.
He scoffed, took off his apron, rolled up his sleeves, and stepped out from behind the counter.
"Are you okay, sir?" the security men asked again.
"Get out of my way," he ordered the guards, and they moved aside.
He stood before the purple-haired lady.
"Why did you slap me?"
"Why?" The purple-haired lady drew closer to him. "Do you plan on slapping me?" she smirked.
"And what if I plan on doing just that?"
"You’re just a peasant; my dad is a senator! How dare you?" freeweɓnovel.cѳm
"If your dad is a senator, then my dad is the president," he retorted.
"Liar! President’s son, my foot! A president’s son wouldn’t be standing behind a counter doing something as cheap as this," she snickered and pulled out her phone to make a call.
"You’ll be in real trouble once my manager and security get here," she yelled in his face.
The guy stared at her for a few minutes, then, tired of her rudeness, sighed and returned behind the counter.
"Next person, please," he called, and Ruby stepped forward.
"My apologies; I’m sorry you had to experience that." He brought out a voucher and gave it to her. "You can use this at any store."
"Really?" Ruby smiled. "Thank you for coming to my defense."
"Oh, it’s not a problem; it’s our job to do this."
After he registered her, he tried to register me, but Ruby didn’t move from her spot.
"Can I get your contact?" she smiled at him.
"My contact?"
"Your number?"
"Oh..." The guy hesitated.
"I’d like to treat you to a meal; thanks for coming to my rescue."
"Okay, why don’t you give me your number? I’ll call you."
"Alright," Ruby recited her number, and he entered it into his phone.
"Make sure to call."
"I will."
The guy did my registration and was about to handle the next person’s, but the appearance of four heavyset men and a shorter man stopped the process again.
"You asked for us, Ms.," the shorter man approached the purple-haired lady. I guessed he was her manager.
"It’s him. He insulted me and called me a peasant. He also threatened to slap me. Take him to the station and lock him up," she pointed to the registrar.
"Yes, Miss!"
The shorter man and the four heavyset men went to the registrar; they were about to hand his ass over to him but paused when something unexpected happened.
The shorter man recognized the registrar.
"What are you doing? Take him away," the purple-haired girl shouted at the shorter man.
"Miss, I’m afraid I can’t do that," the shorter man replied.
"What’s happening?" Ruby whispered. Everyone was curious. I was, too.
"Why are you hesitating? Arrest him! He assaulted me," she yelled.
"I’m afraid I can’t do that. That man—that man is the president’s son. He also owns this mall. He is the president’s son," he revealed.
Gasps and whispers filled the room after the shorter man’s confession.
