Chapter 56: At the gym
"But... I... I have classes today," I protested.
"I already checked your schedule; you don’t," he retorted.
Oh shit. He checked. He just got back from his business trip; shouldn’t he be resting? He should. Why does he want to train me? It’s unnecessary; I don’t need this training.
I refuse.
"But you just got back..." I whispered.
"My schedule is full next week, and you also need to read, for example, so we might not train."
"Can we begin after our exams, then?" I looked at him.
"No!" His answer was sharp.
After the maids served breakfast of toasted bread and chocolate tea, everyone dug into their meal.
I didn’t eat much; I had just a little bread before excusing myself. I was the first to leave. I went straight to my room and fell on my bed.
I sincerely hate this.
I closed my eyes and grew sleepy; I was drifting to dreamland when my door suddenly opened and Nanny Samantha walked in.
"You have to get ready; Alpha Bryce wants you in the gym," she announced.
Oh no! Should I feign illness? I don’t want to train.
"Why? What happened?" She drew closer to me when she noticed my reluctance.
"Nothing," I whispered, turning on the bed.
"He gave you thirty minutes; you have thirty minutes," she revealed.
"Thirty?"
"Yes." ƒreeωebnovel.ƈom
Oh great, let me get some sleep.
"Can you wake me up once it’s time?"
"Yes, of course, I’ll be here." She sat down on the couch, and I closed my eyes. I barely slept before she woke me.
"It’s time; you need to head to the gym now."
"I need five more minutes; I couldn’t sleep last night," I grumbled.
"I know, but you have to go now; maybe you should explain the situation to him. He might understand if you explain it to him."
Explain it to him? I’d be wasting my strength. He’ll never agree to my request.
"Amera, get up, dear. I know it’s difficult, but you shouldn’t keep him waiting. I’ve heard how scary he is; I heard it from the other workers," Nanny Samantha kept urging me until I gave in.
I dragged myself out of bed and sluggishly walked out of the room.
Where’s the gym room? Is it upstairs or downstairs? I have forgotten. I’m not even with my phone.
I should get it.
I returned to the room.
"Did you forget something?" Nanny Samantha turned to me when I entered; she was making my bed.
"Oh yes, my phone." After grabbing my phone from the nightstand, I opened it and sent a text to Bryce.
"I don’t know where the gym room is."
"The gym room is located downstairs, near the workers’ quarters."
"Okay," I texted back. I made my way downstairs and soon found myself in front of the gym room.
Oh, this is the gym room? I’ve only been here twice, not that I was here to work out or something; I came here when I was touring the mansion.
But how do I go in? The entrance is sealed.
"You’ll have to press the button." Gavin appeared behind me; he pressed a button on the side of the wall, and the door opened.
"What are you doing here?" I looked at him. He is wearing a suit, so he isn’t here to work out.
"I need to discuss with Bryce," he responded.
"Oh, will it take time? Should I wait here?"
"Of course not, let’s go in."
He held me, and we entered the gym together. Bryce was sitting on a stationary bicycle, and he was throwing what I could call a slam ball; I’m not sure of its name.
"You’re here." Bryce looked at us.
"Yes, this is the letter." Gavin brought out a letter and a pen; he gave them to Bryce. After skimming through it, Bryce signed the letter and returned it to him.
"Okay, I’m leaving. Good luck with your training, princess."
"Thank you," I muttered.
But... what are we doing in a gym? Am I here to work out? Is it part of the training? I guess it is.
Moon goddess! I need your help; I have a feeling that things will end badly for me.
"You’re late," Bryce muttered as he continued throwing the ball.
"Yes," I muttered.
"Were you sleeping?"
Huh? How did he know?
"Y...yes."
"Good, now you’re going to work out. Have you worked out before?"
"Uh, no."
"You haven’t? Ever?"
"No."
He sighed.
"What have you been doing your whole life?"
I’ve been living fine; I’ve been happy. I was happy before you came into my life. I was tempted to say those words to him, but I stayed quiet. Challenging him will only land me in trouble; nothing good will come of it.
"You know how to run, eh?" He looked at me.
"Yes."
"Get on the treadmill then. Start with that," he instructed.
I’ve never done this before; what if I fall off the treadmill?
"Ok," I whispered and walked to the treadmill, then climbed on it. There are control buttons here; I don’t know what they mean.
Oh goodness, I sincerely don’t want to do this. I want to sleep.
"What are you doing? You don’t know how to operate it?" He looked at me.
"Yes," I shook my head.
A sigh left his lips; he stood up and came to me.
"Since this is your first time, you’ll start slowly, walking, then light jogging; after you get comfortable, you can run."
"Place your hands on the handrails," he instructed, and I did as he asked.
"Don’t grip it tightly."
"Balance your posture," he instructed, and I stood straight.
"As for the buttons, these are the control buttons, this is the start button, this is the stop or pause button, this one is the speed, reset, incline..." He explained everything to me.
After his explanation, I nodded my head in response.
"Do you understand what I just explained?" He looked at me.
"Yes."
"Where is the quick start button?" he asked.
"This one," I pointed at it.
"What about heart rate?"
"This one," I pointed.
"It’s written there; don’t feel proud of yourself," he huffed, but I smiled. I am smart enough to differentiate the buttons now. I don’t care if it’s written there; I am smart!
"Alright, are you ready?"
"Yes." free𝑤ebnovel.com
"You understood everything I explained, yeah?"
"Yes."
"Alright then, you can start," he ordered.
I pressed the start button and began to walk on the treadmill, but the speed belt started moving at an unusual speed, and before I could press the stop or pause button, I saw myself on the floor.
What just happened?
I’m on the floor; my upper body is on the floor, and my legs are hanging up. I don’t know how to explain it, but I think I’m sitting on my face—if that makes sense. And Bryce is staring at me with tired eyes; he looks disappointed.
