Chapter 52: A combat

I’m back at the house; I want to study alone. I’ve had my lunch and taken my bath. All that is left is for me to study. As I tried to open my book, the beeping on my phone drew my attention.

It’s Sandra. Oh shit, Cole. I haven’t checked up on him.

I opened the text and read it: "How are you doing?" the message said.

It’s time I spoke to him; I dialed Sandra’s line, and the call went through.

"Hello," Cole’s voice came in.

"Hello, Cole. I am so sorry for not calling to check on you. Forgive me."

"No, I’m not mad; I’ve also been very busy. Are you good? I hope you’re in excellent health."

"I got discharged from the hospital recently, and I’m in great health."

"Why? What happened?"

"No, it was a minor sickness; I’m fine now," I lied.

"Did you get sick because of that weird old man?"

"Yes, I did."

"I’m sorry you got sick because of me."

"It was not because of you, Cole; don’t try to make this about you."

"It is. You visited and you got assaulted. Do not come back to this warehouse; it’s dangerous and not safe here, especially for a woman."

"Is Sandra not a woman?"

"Sandra is a hard cookie."

"I am older than her; did you forget that?"

"She is used to this life; you’re not. Do not come here."

"I’ve heard you." I scoffed.

"I need to go now. Speak to you later. Bye," Cole suddenly began to whisper.

"Why? What happened? Why are you suddenly whispering?"

"Forgive me, I’ll speak to you later. Bye."

"Hey!"

"Cole! Cole, I’m here; the call is still on." He didn’t disconnect.

"Can you hear me? I’m still here." I continued speaking as I tried to get his attention, but the next words I heard caused me to pause.

"Who were you on the phone with? There’s still a lot of work that needs to be done. Get off the fucking phone. You’re not one of us. You need to work," a harsh male voice said.

"Yes. Why do you even own a phone? You’re a mere slave. You shouldn’t own a phone," another harsh baritone voice spoke up.

"The phone is mine," Sandra’s voice came in. "He is calling his mom; he doesn’t have a phone. He is just checking up on his family. Please turn a blind eye to this, just this once."

"We’re doing this because of you, not for this brat," one of the voices spoke.

"We’ll be back; make sure to finish this section, or we’ll beat you again," the harsh voice came again.

Silence returned and lasted for a minute before Sandra broke it.

"Are you okay, Cole?"

"I’m fine; ignore them," Cole answered.

"No, I don’t think you’re good. You should report this; it’s abuse. You can’t continue this way. Why don’t you inform Amera about this? You said you’re friends with her; I’m sure she’ll be more than willing to help."

Okay, what is going on? What are they talking about? What did I just listen to?

"Hello! Hello! Cole, are you still on the line?"

"Hello."

"Oh shit, the call is still on," I heard Cole say.

"Oh my gosh," Sandra’s voice also came.

Then the call ended.

What is going on? I don’t understand. Abuse? Is Cole being abused? Were those men referring to Cole? Why were they calling him a slave?

This won’t do. I need to find all the information.

I dialed Sandra’s number, and it went through; it rang for a while and ended. I dialed the number a second time but didn’t get a response.

On the third try, Sandra answered the call.

"Sandra," I breathed, relieved that she had finally picked up.

"H... Hi."

"Sandra, what the fuck did I just listen to?"

"I... uh..." She stuttered.

"Sandra!!"

"Hi... It’s just that..." She sighed.

"Is Cole being abused? By whom? For what reason?"

"He doesn’t want you to know about it; I’m also helpless."

"Sandra! I told you to take care of him. You should have reported his condition to me."

"I am sorry. I tried to report it, but Cole is very stubborn. I’ve never seen a more stubborn person."

"Oh my goodness! Do you know what? I’m heading over to the warehouse now." freeweɓnovel.cѳm

"You’re coming here?"

"Were you expecting me to sit back and ignore all that?"

"Oh geez, I’ll inform Cole about this."

"You can’t. Do not do it. I’ll be there in an hour or two, bye for now." I disconnected the call and jumped out of bed.

After getting dressed in a blue suit, I did my hair, applied a little makeup, wore my three-inch heels, sprayed perfume, grabbed my black Dior bag, and walked out of my room.

"Where are you heading? I thought you wanted to study," Nanny Samantha stopped me on the way.

"Yes, I got an urgent call; my friend needs help. I’ll help him," I informed her before walking away.

I got to the garage but didn’t find Charles.

I never expected to see him here either; he doesn’t know about this appointment.

I left the garage and walked to one of the patrol guards.

"I need you to go to the warehouse with me; also, inform Charles about this trip. I need the two of you."

"Do... the brothers know about this?"

"They do. Get Charles and meet me at the garage."

"Alright, Ms." The guard left, and I returned to the garage.

"You’re heading to the warehouse." Charles appeared with the guard minutes later.

"Yes."

"Which one?"

I described the warehouse to him, and he understood.

"You want him to come with us."

"Yes, can you fight?"

"Fight? Are we going there to fight someone?"

"Yes. You’re going there to fight."

The two men exchanged glances.

"Can I know your name, please?" I looked at the other guard.

"Patrick."

"Okay, Patrick, I chose you because you look very intimidating."

He smirked, "Really?"

"Yes, you look scary. I’m sure your mere presence will scare those men."

"Okay, I’m at your service."

"Let’s go."

We got into the vehicle and arrived at the warehouse seventy-four minutes later.

We parked in the same spot as last time. I sent a text to Sandra, and Sandra appeared before me the next second.

"Take us to those men, the ones who bullied Cole; take us to them."

"Ok... This way." Sandra led us to them.

"The three of them." Sandra pointed out the men.

The three of them were manly and short; one had a potbelly, and two were a little huge, but none were bigger than Charles and Patrick.

I turned to Patrick. "Can you beat them in combat?" frёewebnoѵel.ƈo๓

Patrick smirked, "It’ll be a piece of cake."

"Alright, I want you to beat them into a coma. All three of them. I have money. I’ll pay you. I’ll also pay their hospital bills."
