Chapter 51: The investigation
"I didn’t see Bryce as the type to cheat. Is he really cheating on you?" Ruby looked at me, but I remained silent.
"He is calling," Ruby notified me when my phone started ringing.
"Won’t you answer?" she asked, but I did not respond. fгee𝑤ebɳoveɭ.cøm
The phone stopped ringing after a few seconds and began ringing again. "Maybe you should answer the call; let’s get to the bottom of this. If he is indeed cheating, we’ll cuss him like we did Cooper," she suggested.
I shifted my attention to her. "Bryce is not as soft as Cooper; he is the last person you should insult," I groaned.
"Oh, yeah, you’re right, but we can’t remain still; you need to confirm if he’s cheating or not."
"I’m scared; I don’t want to," I mumbled.
"I understand, but you also can’t end things like this; it’ll stay on your mind. You need to know if he’s truly cheating or not."
The phone stopped ringing for a second time and started ringing for a third time.
"This is the third one. Answer the call. I’m willing to cuss him on your behalf. You don’t have to say a word; I’ll do the cussing. After that, I’ll bury myself in a grave," she said.
I huffed.
"I’m serious, answer the call; it’s about to end." After she successfully convinced me, I grabbed the phone from where I had kept it and reluctantly answered the call.
"H...ello," I answered.
"It’s not what you’re thinking," he replied. Ruby and I exchanged glances.
"She’s my aunt, and she’s very nosy. I’m on a business trip, and I’m staying over at her place."
"Aunt?" Ruby muttered. "He has an aunt?"
"Oh..."
"I’ll be back tomorrow; I’m heading to my last meeting. Speak to you later," he said, then ended the call.
"She’s his aunt. Am I supposed to believe that?" Ruby touched her neck as she tried to digest his words.
"I don’t know much about his family members; there’s a high chance he’s telling the truth. Bryce is not exactly the type to lie. You know how rigid he is."
"Well, all cheaters lie. But I’m still confused. Knowing how Bryce is, I also doubt that he is a cheat. But we can’t trust him one hundred percent either. Maybe we should carry out an investigation," she suggested.
"An investigation?"
"Yes."
"Does he have an aunt? Is he on a business trip? You need to confirm what he said."
"Ohh."
"How do I do that?"
"You can call the brothers and confirm with them."
"You can text Parker and ask if he knows about Bryce’s aunt. You can call or text Gavin, ask if Bryce is on a business trip, and ask for the location. Call Cooper, ask him about Bryce’s aunt, and try to get more details," she suggested.
"There’s something I haven’t revealed to you."
"What is it?"
"Bryce and Cooper are actually siblings. The same mother and father birthed the two."
"Oh, really? I thought they all had different mothers."
"I thought the same too; I only discovered this recently."
"Parker’s mom is different, same as Gavin’s."
"Ohh," she shook her head. "This comes as a surprise."
"Yes, I was also very surprised."
"Okay, ask Cooper about his aunt; ask him about her location."
"Alright."
I scrolled to Cooper’s number and dialed it; the call went through, and he answered a minute later.
"Hello, Princess, I’m in a meeting right now; is this important?" he asked.
"Uh, it’s not really important, but I’m also very curious about this. Can you give me an answer?"
"Okay, what is it?"
"Can you tell me where your aunt lives?"
"What Aunt?"
"What Aunt? You don’t have an aunt?"
"I do. Which one? From the mother’s side or the father’s side? I don’t even know all of them."
"Which aunt do you like the most? Or which one is nosy?" I quizzed.
"Aunt Rosie, I think... She’s very nosy, but she’s also nice. Why? Did she call you? Did you speak to her?"
"Um... No, I was just thinking about your family; we didn’t get a chance to finish our conversation."
"I can tell you about my aunts during our date on Sunday. See you, bye." Then the call ended.
"Aunt Rosie, we succeeded in discovering her name, but not her location," Ruby mumbled.
"Cooper would be the best person to get her location from," I muttered.
"What should we do? He is in a meeting; I can’t call him."
"Text him." "Where does she live?"
"Understood." I went to my messages and sent the text.
"Texas." fɾeeweɓnѳveɭ.com
"Okay," he said, "Texas."
"We’ll go ahead now and figure out Bryce’s location."
"Let’s ask Parker. You can text him."
I sent a text to Parker.
"Texas."
"He said Texas."
"So, Bryce is not lying?" She looked at me.
"I... I guess," I mumbled.
"Maybe we should..." Ruby stopped speaking when my phone started ringing again.
"Who is it?" Ruby questioned when I didn’t say a word and just stared at my phone.
"It’s... It’s Bryce. He is calling again."
She gasped. "Do you think he caught on? Maybe he found out?" she asked.
"Yes, I bet he did." I sighed and closed my eyes.
"Loudmouths, why can’t they keep their mouths shut?" she groaned.
I swiped the icon and answered the call.
"You should have asked me instead of carrying out a meaningless investigation. I had to come back to her house because of you. You can speak to her yourself."
"She’s really your mate?" the woman’s voice boomed through the speaker.
"This is unbelievable. How is that rude brat your mate?"
"Hello," I called.
"Hello, rude brat," the woman hissed.
"Don’t call her that," Bryce cautioned her.
"I’ve always wanted to speak to you; I can’t believe we just had our first conversation. This isn’t what I pictured. I didn’t know you would be such an... Well, I always imagined that you’d be as white and clean as a dove. You’re in so much trouble now."
Trouble? Why am I in trouble?
"Why...?"
"You are not apologizing; you should start by apologizing for your actions."
"I didn’t know you were his aunt; I apologize for calling you a thief," I said.
"Now we’re talking," she responded and suddenly started laughing.
Hahaha.
What’s funny?
"It’s time to go." Bryce retrieved his phone.
"If you need more clarification, then I’ll set up a meeting so you can meet her. I’m running late for my meeting," he said and ended the call.
A sigh left my lips. A satisfied, happy sigh.
