Chapter 49: Ruby’s home

Ruby texted me that she wouldn’t be able to show up at school because she felt too worn out; she wanted to take the day off. I guess I’m alone today.

After I finished classes, I left for the VIP parking lot. I got into the van, and Charles took the wheel. He started the vehicle and began to drive out of the lot, but we’d barely gotten anywhere before he suddenly hit the brakes, causing me to fall off the seat.

"My apologies, Ms. I didn’t mean to do that," he quickly apologized.

"What happened?" I groaned as I returned to my seat.

"A woman suddenly jumped in front of the vehicle," he explained.

"Is she hurt?"

"No, I was able to stop before I could hit her."

"Well, see what she wants; if she demands money, you call the cops."

"Yes." Charles left the vehicle and returned three minutes later.

"Um... She said she wants to speak to you."

"Me? Who is she?"

"I don’t know who she is; she claims to know you."

"Is she not trying to demand money?"

"No, she’s not. She claims to know Alpha Cooper; her name is Freya."

"Freya?" I frowned.

"Yes, Ms."

Don’t tell me it’s what I think it is.

"I’m not getting down; ask her to come in," I requested.

"Okay," Charles spoke to her; she entered the vehicle the next second and sat in the chair before me.

She sniffed and wiped her tears.

Has she been crying? What is this about?

"Yes, how may I help you?" I lowered my cell phone and settled my gaze on her.

She took her hand to her face and wiped her tears again.

"Cooper transferred me to a smaller branch; the branch is in a different city. He said he doesn’t want to see me again," she said.

"So? What does that have to do with me?" I furrowed my brows as I stared at her.

"You told him to do that, didn’t you? You got angry about what I said and pressured him to fire me."

"Is that what Cooper told you? Did he tell you that I got upset?"

"No, he got mad at me because I approached you. He already warned me not to speak to you; I ignored his words."

"So? Why are you speaking to me then? If you have any issues with Cooper, please address them directly with him. Don’t ever do this; don’t jump in front of a moving vehicle."

"I couldn’t help it; I had to speak to you." She adjusted her hair, tucking it behind her ear. "I’ve been waiting in the lot to speak to you. I came here three hours ago."

Three? What is wrong with her?

"I have a request, and I also have a question." After arranging her hair, she focused her attention on me.

"About Cooper, can you ask him to transfer me back to the main branch? I can’t bear the idea of not seeing him. I can’t handle it; I’ll seriously die if I don’t see him as much as I used to. I don’t care if he takes me back; I just want to see him from afar. I’ll be satisfied by just seeing him. I’ll be satisfied by his mere shadow."

"Kindly put in a request for me. I know he likes and listens to you, so he’ll grant your request."

"I have a question—I’m truly curious about this. About the brothers, who will you end up with? Is it Cooper? Will you end up with him? Your bond with him seems strong; I’m very curious."

"Will you forget Cooper if I respond positively to your question? Will you stop seeing him?"

"I... uh... I don’t think so. I love him too much. It’s like I said before, I’ve loved him for four years. In those four years, I desperately yearned for his attention. I love Cooper; I don’t think I’ll be able to forget him."

"Your question is meaningless then; what’s the point of asking if you plan on seeing him?"

"I won’t see him. He already sent me away. He ended things and transferred me to a smaller branch."

"Get off; it’s time to go."

"What?"

"I need to leave; get off."

"You haven’t given me an answer to my question."

"I answered your question."

"What about my request? Do you promise to grant it?"

"Why would I grant your request? I’m not crazy."

"What?!" She frowned. "You won’t help me?" freewebnøvel.coɱ

"Get off; I won’t repeat myself."

She scoffed. "Who do you think you are? You’re just a little girl who lived in poverty all her life. You tasted wealth, and you’ve become so greedy. You want everything to be yours. What sort of greed is that?"

"Oh, I see. You also want a share of this wealth that I am enjoying," I chuckled. I think I understand her now. She doesn’t want Cooper; she wants his money.

"What?! Don’t speak to me in that manner. I’m not your mate." "I am not as selfish as you; I know how to share."

"Charles," I called, "please help her out of this vehicle."

"Yes, Ms." freёweɓnovel.com

Charles opened the door and escorted her out.

"You’ll pay for this; I’ll make you regret your actions," she vowed just as the door closed.

Charles started the car and began to drive out of the parking lot.

"Charles," I called.

"Yes."

"I have a different destination in mind. Take me to Ruby’s apartment. She lives alone with her brother, but I’m sure she’s the only one at home now. I want to study with her."

"Yes, Ms."

"You know where she lives, right?"

"I do. I also know your home address. I know the home addresses of your siblings."

"Okay." I’m not surprised; the brothers likely provided him with the information, and as he mentioned, he has been working as a patrol guard for them for a while. I’m sure he is used to seeing me with Ruby.

We arrived at Ruby’s building; I got out of the car and took the elevator to Ruby’s floor. After getting to her floor, I walked to her apartment and knocked.

"Ruby! Are you there? I’m here to see you. Ruby!" I knocked.

Wait, there’s a bell. I pressed the bell twice and waited, but when I didn’t get a response, I opened my phone, went to WhatsApp, and sent her a text.

"I’m in front of your door. Open up."

The text went through, but I didn’t get a response.

Ruby once texted me her house password. Where is it? I scrolled through our chat, and after intense searching, I discovered the password.

I unlocked the door and went in; I went straight to her room afterwards.

"Ruby," I called, opening the door to see if she was in, but I was surprised by the scene I saw.
