Chapter 42: Dressing up for dinner

After taking a long nap, I woke up at 5:30 pm, had my bath, and went into my closet to search for a dress. Cooper had texted earlier, saying I should forget about the dinner party, but I disagreed. I couldn’t. I wanted to attend.

But which dress should I wear to this dinner party? I was pondering and I didn’t notice Nanny Samantha; she walked into the closet and stood behind me.

"You should probably go for that dress." She pointed to a red dress.

"This one?"

"Or the blue one. You could choose between the two. You’ll be comfortable in them."

"Maybe I should call a personal stylist; I need my hair styled and my makeup done."

"Ah, there’s a lady at the door. I came to inform you; the brothers probably sent her," she told me.

"Oh really? Let her in."

"Alright, Ms." Nanny Samantha left, and the stylist came in. Oh, I know her; she had styled me in the past.

"Good evening, Ms. I apologize for coming late."

"Oh, no worries. I’m confused between the red and the blue; which should I go for?"

"I think you should go for a more casual outfit, one that won’t make you stand out," she suggested.

"I heard the dinner party is for the company workers. They will attend straight from the office; they won’t have time to change outfits or even style their hair. Some of the ladies might reapply their makeup, but that will be all. Most will appear basic; it would be too much if you overdressed."

"You can’t underdress either; you have to stand out regardless, but there’s a better outfit for that." She walked to a black pleated miniskirt and a white fancy long-sleeved blouse. She selected the two items, along with a red purse and red heels.

"I think this combination will make you stand out, but in a more natural and fun way. Not too excessive, just perfect. You’ll be the center of attention, but they won’t resent you for appearing too beautiful," she joked, and I laughed.

"Okay, I’ll do that."

"What about my makeup and hair?"

"I’ll straighten your hair, and your makeup will be light, but your lips will be blood red. Do you want me to start now?" she asked.

"Yes, let’s start with my hair."

We began the process and finished about forty minutes later.

I also got dressed, and afterward, I walked to the mirror.

She was right—I stood out, but in a much nicer way. But why did I feel my lips were a little too red? I had never worn this color of lipstick before.

"Are you okay with everything, or do you want me to change anything?" she inquired.

"My lips are too red."

"You have to stand out, remember? Or do you want me to apply a different shade?"

"I’d love a lighter shade, please."

"Alright, not a problem." She removed the lipstick and applied a lighter shade. ƒгeewёbnovel.com

"I prefer this," I said, shaking my head.

"I also love it," she admitted.

"You’re good to go."

"You’ve done a great job," I complimented her.

"Thank you, I’m getting paid for this," she chuckled, and I laughed.

"Let’s go," she said.

"Are you attending the party?"

"Yes, I received an invitation too," she revealed.

"Oh, are you going dressed like this?" I asked. She looked plain.

"Yes," she chuckled. "Let’s go; I’ll join you in the car." She started leaving but paused at the door.

"Jewelry—you need some. I heard you don’t like hand jewelry," she asked.

"Yes."

"I’ll get a necklace." She rushed into my closet and returned with a gold necklace, then fixed it around my neck.

"This is perfect! I can’t believe I forgot about it; please forgive me."

"No, I don’t mind; jewelry isn’t my thing." I hardly wear any.

We went to the garage and met Willa holding the wheels; once she saw us, she came down from the car and opened the back door for us.

"Thank you," the lady whispered before entering the vehicle.

"It’s not necessary," I sighed and got in as well.

She didn’t have to open the door every time.

I leaned back and took out my phone. There were unread texts from my parents, Ruby, and the brothers.

And another one from Sandra.

Shit, I should text her.

"Hi, Sandra, I am truly and sincerely sorry. A lot has happened to me in the last few days, and I wasn’t able to reach out. Kindly inform Cole that he need not be concerned about me. He mustn’t behave foolishly either. I’ll call you as soon as I’m free."

I sent the message and then moved to Ruby’s text.

"Have you done it?" her message read.

"Yes, I have. I’ll give you the full gist later; I’m on my way to Cooper’s company dinner party," I replied.

A reply came from her the next second: "Why didn’t you tell me about the party? I’m bored at home," she said.

"Oh, forgive me. Cooper’s company is not far from your house; you can still attend. The dinner starts at 8:00 pm."

"Where’s the venue?"

"I’m not exactly sure. Cooper wants me in his office, but I doubt it’ll be held at the company; it’ll probably happen at a restaurant, just like last time," I typed and sent it.

"Okay, I’ll dress up and give you a call."

"Alright."

We arrived at Cooper’s company thirteen minutes later, and I went straight to his office.

His secretary was not at her desk, but I could hear his voice from the office.

"Hi..." I opened the door to see him with a lady—a lady who appeared nervous when I walked in.

Cooper cleared his throat and adjusted himself in his seat.

Okay, what were they doing before I came in? They looked very suspicious.

"Excuse me, sir," the lady said and quickly hurried out of the office.

"What?" Cooper looked at me when I kept glaring at him.

What? What did he mean by that question?

He cleared his throat again and stood to his feet. "You look gorgeous tonight; you’re very pretty." He approached me and tried to touch me, but I took a step back.

"Where’s the location? I’d like to be on my way now."

His brows perked up as he stared at me. "Did you just avoid me?" he asked.

"I didn’t..." I sighed. "I wish to know the venue."

"You’re mad." He took one of my hands. "Why? Because of the lady who was here, or do you have other reasons?" He fixed his gaze on me, but I moved mine to the door.

"Nothing, I’m not mad or anything. Ruby wants to know the location. I told her about the event, and she was interested," I explained.

"You’re not answering my questions. Are you jealous of the woman you saw here?"

What if I am? Am I not allowed to be jealous? They cheat all the time but get mad when a guy stares at me.

Hypocrites.

When I didn’t respond, he smiled. frёeωebɳovel.com

"Well, you have the right to be mad; I made out with her. I’m not going to deny that," he said.

After his confession, I immediately snatched my hand away from his and walked out the door. I didn’t come here for this. I didn’t want to get mad either.
