Chapter 36: Suggestions
Gavin unlocked my door and entered my room; he lifted me out of bed and checked my condition.
"Shit, you’re burning up." He carried me out of the room, and the next place I found myself was the hospital.
I was given injections and grew sleepy again. However, just before I fell asleep, I heard Parker’s harsh voice.
"Why didn’t you treat her yesterday?!"
"She was asleep, and I didn’t want to disturb her. I planned to return this morning. Forgive me; I shouldn’t have left. Her condition worsened because of me. I acknowledge my mistakes; please forgive me." The doctor apologized.
"Where the heck is Martins? This shit happened because of him."
"He is on his honeymoon and..."
"Call him back! Forget the honeymoon. There’s nothing sweet about this situation."

I opened my eyes to see my mother staring at me.
"M...Mom?"
"Yes, are you conscious now? Can you see me?" As I looked around, I noticed my dad and Ruby were also present.
What are they doing here? When did they get here?
"What are you...?" I tried to sit up, but they stopped me.
"I’ll inform the doctor." My dad left the ward.
"What are you doing here, Mom?" I asked.
"The brothers allowed us to be with you; we’ll stay by your side until you regain your health," my mom smiled, looking happy.
"But I’m fine; I’m not that sick." I groaned. Why did they have to call my family for such an incident?
"We heard what happened to you." Ruby drew closer.
"Sorry it happened; I’m glad the situation was handled quickly. The brothers are not happy. And Bryce especially blames himself for it," Ruby revealed.
"But... But... It was not that bad. Nothing happened to me," I whispered.
"No, the situation must have truly traumatized you."
It did. But seeing the man’s severed body was more traumatizing for me.
"They invited us to stay with you until you get better; they’re feeling very terrible," my mom added. She smiled and looked at Ruby.
"To be honest, I’m a little happy this happened," she confessed. "I yelled at them for the first time in my life."
Wait... What is she saying?
Ruby chuckled.
"You needed to see Mom in action."
"She was truly furious. She blamed them for not protecting you enough and for letting you go through something that disturbing. They looked like they were going to cry," Ruby whispered, then giggled.
What? She went that far?
"How long have I been unconscious?"
"Three days."
"Three..." My eyes went wide, and I started to sit up again.
"Three whole days?" I gasped, shocked.
"Yes, we got here yesterday morning." Mom and Ruby helped me into a sitting position. freeweɓnovel.cѳm
"Your condition wasn’t that good; your face was swollen and red. You looked horrible," Ruby confessed. "Seeing you in that state broke my heart, but like Mom said, I’m a little glad this incident happened. They also removed the ban they placed on me."
"Mom criticized them; she told them your situation worsened because you had no one to speak to. And they completely believed her words, so they removed the ban. Now I’m free to visit you whenever I want." She leaned closer and embraced me.
"I’m glad you fell ill." She murmured.
What? She’s a nutjob.
The door opened, and Doctor Martins walked in; after checking my vitals, he confirmed I was in good condition before leaving.
Shortly after he left, my dad came in with my food.
Oh, hospital food again? They don’t taste great.
"You should eat; we’re in charge now. We need to show the brothers how to treat a woman."
But I was reluctant to eat; my dad had to spoon-feed me.
He cleared the dishes afterward.
"How do you feel?" Mom inquired.
"Good."
"You don’t feel pain?"
"No, it wasn’t the incident that hurt me; it was my fall that caused the injury," I clarified.
"What? Are you saying you didn’t bump into the car while trying to get away from that man?" Ruby questioned.
"No, I fell when I visited Cole in the warehouse. Bryce doesn’t know this; he thought I got hurt because of the man," I confessed.
"Well, it’s a good development, and they don’t have to know the truth. Never reveal it to them."
"I won’t." I will never confess it. Sandra and Cole will be in trouble if I ever reveal the truth.
"I have a suggestion; can I make it?" Ruby looked at my mom.
"Go ahead, dear, what is it?"
"The brothers will stop by to visit her on their way home; she needs to act like she’s in pain, and we’ll pressure them more than we already did. Maybe if we pressure them enough, they’ll start listening to you," she suggested.
"How?"
"You know how they don’t listen to any word you say; they go on and make plans as they please. Let’s take advantage of this situation; let’s change things," Ruby suggested.
"Isn’t that a bit dangerous?" The door opened and my dad walked in. "You can do this, but don’t push them too far. They regret their actions, but if you push them too far, who knows what they’ll do?"
"You’re right, dear, but I’ll take advantage of this situation and ask for visitation rights; I should be able to visit my daughter whenever I want to. And she should be able to visit us when she wants."
"They have to be more considerate; separating her from her family is a terrible thing to do."
"Yes, exactly! I also want them to stop threatening me. Every time they threaten me, my lifespan reduces. They’re so scary," Ruby grumbled.
While lying in bed, I continued to watch them complain and make suggestions until I unknowingly fell asleep. I opened my eyes when I heard familiar voices.
The brothers. They’re here.
Forcing my eyes open, I saw them in my ward; they appeared to be in a meeting with my parents. Ruby was not there.
"We appreciate your efforts in our daughter’s life, but my daughter is still a child; she needs her parents too. Give us free entry to the house; it’s just us. We’re not strangers to her. We won’t hurt her," Dad said.
"I think the situation escalated more than it should have because she has no one to confide in. She’s a girl, a growing woman. She doesn’t know everything; she still needs her mother to teach her. I have many things I haven’t taught her yet."
"And when she starts having her kids..." My mother continued, but a sign from my dad caused her to stop.
"Why can’t I bring it up? Is it forbidden? She’ll have her kids one day too. I need to help her out when the time comes," my mom stubbornly continued.
"And while we’re on this topic, can you please tell us what future plans you have for our daughter? Are you truly going to be with her all her life? The four of you? Is that even possible?" She huffed.
But her question was met with silence. Disturbing silence.
